This eponymous collection from the Past Perfect label collects 37 performances from Ella Fitzgerald's time with the Decca label during the late '30s and '40s -- a period where she was blooming but not yet in full flower. It's also a period that's been surveyed hundreds of times since the beginning of the LP era, and the sound is closer to fair than perfect. With just a few exceptions, ballads and standards are the order of the day, including "How High the Moon," "Oh, Lady Be Good," and "I'm Beginning to See the Light." ~ John Bush

| | Sylphide DVD (2004)
Adam - Giselle film
$21.55 Performed at the Palais Garnier by the Opéra National de Paris in July 2004, this staging of Philippe Taglioni's classic ballet stars leading ballerina Aurélie Dupont in the title role of Sylphide, which was once played by Marie Taglione, the choreographer's daughter. This revival performance is actually a reconstruction of Pierre Lacotte's well-known 1972 version. In expressing Lacotte's (and Taglioni's) original choreography, Dupont and her male partner Mathieu Ganio recreate the style that defined the romantic ballet.
Aurelie Dupont, Mathieu Ganio, Melanie Hurel, Jean-Marie Didier, Isabelle Ciaralova, Gil Isoart, Emmanuel Hoff, and Virginie Rousseliere star in this Pierre Lacotte reconstruction of the Philippe Taglioni choreography. Ermanno Florio conducts the Paris Opera Ballet.
