| | Teddy Pendergrass Life Is A Song Worth Singing CD Teddy Pendergrass Discography of CDs
On the strength of the gently rolling mid-tempo ballad "Close the Door," Teddy Pendergrass's 1978 sophomore effort gained serious recognition at the time of its release, and announced that Pendergrass was well on his way to becoming a major figure on the R&B scene. Philadelphia International had their slick grooves and top-notch production treatments down by the late '70s, and, as a result, LIFE IS A SONG WORTH SINGING is non-stop aural pleasure.
Though he is known primarily as a balladeer, Pendergrass could also get loose and funky, and one of the appealing things about LIFE IS A SONG is its shifts in mood and tempo. Both "Only You" and "Get Up, Get Down, Get Funky, Get Loose" are jams worthy of the dance floor. On both uptempo tracks and slow jams, though, the man's voice--smooth, rough, intimate, and intense all at once--is never less than thrilling. This was Pendergrass's first true solo gem.

This is a hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both regular and Super Audio CD players.
This 23-song CD stands in Sam Cooke's output roughly where those four posthumous LPs (beginning with Dock Of The Bay) stand in Otis Reddings catalog, with the major difference that Cooke's work included far fewer leftovers and sides that were justified simply by being available -- he seemed to throw a special effort into almost everything that ever recorded, and that goes double for this disc's content, which encompasses the final year of his recording career. This was a period in which he explored several promising musical directions and broke through both to an extraordinarily sophisticated synthesis ...

Though documentarian Ken Burns's ten-part series JAZZ moves through several decades and several styles of jazz, the one figure who dominates the sonic/cultural landscape of the entire documentary is Louis Armstrong, the trumpeter/vocalist generally credited with inventing jazz as we know it and pioneering the art of improvisation. Covering Armstrong's career on a single disc is a tough job, but in conjunction with the series, we are able to see how these selections represent Armstrong's various periods of development. We get not only his pioneering early New Orleans cuts lie "Potato Head Blues" and "Chimes Blues," but his later pop crossover hits, such as "Hello Dolly" and "Mack the Knife." While the latter should be familiar to all, the former are probably known only to jazz fans, and will be a special treat for
This is part of the Columbia/Legacy Ken Burns JAZZ series.

Life Is A Song Worth Singing CD music
$20.05 Simply put, this is another of Sony Legacy's three-pack deals. In these Collections, they place three well-known albums by a major artist in a slipcase for a budget price; that's it. In this case it happens to be three very desirable (and among the best) albums by Willie Nelson. Two of these recordings are considered artistic as well as commercial breakthroughs, and the last was a hit record that contained one of his biggest and most memorable singles. The albums included here are 1975's Red Headed Stranger, a concept recording, and while not his first -- those were Yesterday's Wine and Phases and Stages recorded for RCA a few years earlier -- was the first he issued for Columbia and was critically and commercially received outside traditional country music circles. 1982's Stardust is a multi-platinum success story, as well as a critical one -- it's the recording with which Nelson finally crossed over en masse, a recording of standards from the Great American Songbook. Finally, there's 1982's Always on My Mind, featuring the title track which became a world-wide crossover smash. Produced by Chips Moman, it also included readings of Procol Harum's "A Whiter Shade ...
