This operatically menacing Finland outfit's third record is a showcase for frontman Alexi Laiho's prog-meets-death-metal songwriting imagination and the near-euphoric, omnipresent keyboards of Janne Warman. Still navigating their chosen terrain, Bodom spreads its wings wide on tracks like "Bodom At Midnight," which toggle between familiarly punishing riffs and orchestrated flourishes which border on the theatricality of The Trans-Siberian Orchestra. But when they forge a middle ground on the cathedral-goth synth-stomp of "Everytime I Die," Children begin to hint at their soon-to-come maturation.
Recorded between August and September 2000.
Children of Bodom: Alexi Laiho (vocals, guitar); Alexander Kuoppala (guitar); Janne Warman (keyboards); Henkka T Blacksmith (5-string bass); Jaska Raatikainen (drums).

CMJ (2/12/01, p.29) - "...REAPER's grand, up-tempo death metal is textures with classical elements. There's still plenty of In Flames/Iron Maiden riffs and speed - it's just enmeshed in the storm an splash of synthesizers..." Children Of Bodom Follow The Reaper Songs Follow The Reaper Music Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) Awesome The first CD I ever bought for this band and I still have it as my favorite CD of my sad life. Once my friend showed me this band I listened to the song "Children of Decadence" and bought the CD and realised who was the greatest band alive. There is not one bad song on this album and the bass line from "Hellion" is still stuck in my head.
LONG LIVE CHILDREN OF BODOM!!! Submitted by p_lamb (Bakersfield, CA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
The best Children of Bodom album ever! Children of Bodom has put out an album that is better than Hatebreeder. Once you listen to the first song, it will blow you away. The best songs of the album are "Follow the Reaper", "Bodom After Midnight", "Children of Decadence", "Everytime I Die", "Hate Me!", and "Kissing the Shadows". Follow the Reaper is an awesome album and most importantly...an all-time heavy metal favorite. If you are a fan of Children of Bodom, please buy the special edition of Follow the Reaper, for it has the original single version of "Hate Me!", a cover version of W.A.S.P.'s "Hellion" and a enhanced video of "Everytime I Die". Um.... First of all, this is a great album and I am now a fan for life. Secondly, this didn't come out in 2008, it came out in 2001, I don't know if this is just a simple mistake or if it's just a release date from another country, I just wanted to point that out. Follow The Reaper album
$10.45 Although they remained largely without peer when it came to pure Germanic thrash metal, by the time of 1990's Coma of Souls, Kreator's very successful formula had begun to grow a little tired. The fact that they were coming off perhaps their biggest album yet in 1989's Extreme Aggression didn't help matters, and despite its overwhelmingly solid songwriting, Coma of Souls still sounded somewhat repetitive to all but the most unquestioning of fans. Still, better too much of a good thing than nothing at all, and with their head-spinning musicianship and well-chosen stabs at melody, complex moshers like "When the Sun Burns Red," "Angels of Brutality," and the title song are guaranteed to thrill lovers of technically proficient thrash. Two tracks in particular stand out of the pack, namely the outstanding "People of the Lie," whose chorus is almost too groovy and memorable to be called thrash metal, and the expertly executed "Terror Zone," with its unnaturally measured pace and a melodic intro to die for. Also of note, the band hardly skips a beat with the arrival of former Sodom guitarist Frank "Blackfire" Gosdzik, who ...
| | Children Of Bodom Are You Dead Yet? CD (2005)
Follow The Reaper CD music
$12.25 Edging up on its 10-year anniversary, Finnish metallers Children of Bodom have almost completely traded in their black metal roots for the sort of chunky, melodic action that many screamo acts built their entire sounds around. ARE YOU DEAD YET? doesn't hang up Children of Bodom's fondness for unrelenting aggression, but with the emphasis on clear, dramatic leads, slower rhythms, and garish novelties like their cover of the Ramones' "Somebody Put Something In My Drink," ...
| | Children Of Bodom Blooddrunk CD (2008)
Follow The Reaper music CDs
$11.99 With a style that splits the difference between Scandinavian death metal ferocity and classic British power metal, Finland's Children of Bodom draw strength from every color in the metal spectrum. BLOODDRUNK can be as vicious and terrifying as the title would imply, but it can also be as exhilarating and anthemic as Iron Maiden. Punctuating their dizzying guitar leads with splashes of melodic synth tones, the Children add yet another layer to BLOODDRUNK'S overall sonic palate, lending a depth too often absent in this kind of album. "Lobodomy" has frantically paced riffs spilling out until they hit a pool of ...
