Best Of album
$11.18 With Adam Lambert, American Idol finally got a finalist who was completely, utterly contemporary, aware of what's hip in music and culture and aware of how music is made and consumed in 2009, never seeming to try to follow fads or set trends, just embodying the time. Mercifully, he came in second to Kris Allen, for if he came in first he may have had to tame his self-styled glamazon ways. A second place finish allowed Lambert to come out of the closet and indulge in his penchant for theater on his debut, For Your Entertainment -- which isn't quite the same thing as camp, for if Adam Lambert is anything, he's earnest about his dress-up, never winking at the audience because he doesn't think there's much funny about his glitter and mascara: that's ...

| | Darkest Heart Rooted In Horror CD (2009)
Best Of album
$12.15 Rooted in Horror began as a plan for a marketing tool for the 13th Gate Haunted House in Baton Rouge, LA; consistently one of the best in the nation (2009 made its 2nd number 1 ranking.) However, people have budgets, and plans fall through. After sponsors fell through, I decided to continue on my own and make the album a showcase of different styles and skills that could translate to horror movie soundtracks and video games. Some of the songs are more of an ambient dark wave style, some definitely heavy and some tribal drum based. Lyrical content came from lots of Zombie movies and H.P. Lovecraft stories and even personal experiences. This whole CD was done at my home studio over about a year. It’s not easy to come up with spooky music when it’s 100 degrees and very bright and sunny outside. I ended up putting black plastic over my studio windows and using very low lights so I could pretend it was dark and scary in the middle of a summer day.Recent CD Review from Sarah L. I met the fiery-maned Shelly Plaisance of Darkest Heart at the 2009 H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival and Cthulhu Con. When he told me he created a horror CD – with a song based on Lovecraft’s work… I was intrigued. I assigned Rooted in Horror to SNS Reviewer Patrick J. Kennedy, he has a great ear for music. I must confess, the Lovecraftian part made it hard for me to resist, so I did give a listen as well and rather enjoyed it. This CD will now be added to my rotation of “spooky music”. (The unofficial playlist for She Never Slept’s 13 Days of Halloween event!) Without further ado, I present to you Partick’s thoughts on Rooted in Horror. Enjoy my fiends!Abstrusely,Sarah L. GerhardtAzathoth, the Daemon Sultan, obviously never heard the philosophy that you have to catch them with a hook in the first 20 seconds. A paradigm enforced at Motown by Berry Gordy, another Great Old One that inspired fear and insanity amongst his followers, but that’s not what we are looking for in the mood piece “Azathoth’s Court”, that starts Rooted in Horror, the haunted house inspired album from Shelly Plaisance’s project Darkest Heart.According to Shelly, Darkest Heart “began as a plan for a marketing tool for the 13th Gate Haunted House in Baton Rouge, LA; consistently one of the best in the nation (2009 made its 2nd number 1 ranking.) However, people have budgets, and plans fall through. After sponsors fell through, I decided to continue on my own and make the album a showcase of different styles and skills that could translate to horror movie soundtracks and video games.”Well, Mr. Plaisance is certainly skilled and exhibits several different styles well on the album. “Straight Jacket Dreams” is a nice little tune very reminiscent of the kind of ...
