Die Vier Jahreszeiten album
$19.30 Andrea Bocelli's 2009 My Christmas album finds the Italian tenor performing various classic holiday-themed songs that touch on a mix of classical, opera, and pop. Included are such well-known holiday songs as "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town," "O Tannenbaum," and "Silent Night." The versatile Bocelli also delves into such iconic Christmas hits as "Blue Christmas" and "The Christmas Song" (featuring a duet with Natalie Cole). Of course, the opera and classic songs are Bocelli's bread and butter, and here listeners get such lavishly produced cuts as "Adeste Fidelis," "Cantique del Noel," and "Caro Gesu Bambino." My Christmas is not only a warm and inviting holiday album, but also a superb classical crossover entry worthy of Bocelli's discography. ~ Matt Collar

| | Bennett Handel: Semele CD (2003) Complete
Die Vier Jahreszeiten songs
$59.39 Australian pressing. Australian record label ABC Classics have released a live recording of Handel's Semele. This a fascinating and entertaining first ever production by the Pinchgut Opera, Sydney's newest opera company in whose ranks, we are told, are some of Australia's finest opera singers. Handel's Semele is neither an oratorio nor an opera, but a mixture of the two; sometimes referred to as a `pastoral'. Described by biographer Herbert Weinstock in 1959 as an, "actionless opera." the work was first performed as a `concert version' (like an ...

Die Vier Jahreszeiten CD music
$27.59 Recorded on February 8, 1985. Includes liner notes by Patrick Hatchuel, Moshe Leiser.
A trio of Parisian musicians walked into a bar, and out came an album of Yiddish songs. Despite Yiddish not being his primary language, singer Moshe Leiser does an excellent job of invoking the lyrics with a bit of history and a lot of passion along the way, aided by some tender violin work and a bit of oompah-pah from Gérard Barreaux's accordion. There are a number of worthwhile albums of Yiddish song on the market, but Chansons Yiddisch, Ocora's addition to the selection, is a nice one nonetheless. A tender album, full of life, but leaning more toward the memory of things past and cultures lost, it would seem. Worth a listen or two for fans of Jewish song, and particularly Yiddish music. ~ Adam Greenberg
