Though THE BROTHERS BLOOM seems to be equal parts THE STING and THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS, director Rian Johnson's second feature is still strikingly original. Adrien Brody (KING KONG) and Mark Ruffalo (ZODIAC) star as the siblings of the title, who have been working as conmen since they were children. There is a constant tug of war between them, with Bloom (Brody) desperate to get out of the game, while his brother Stephen (Ruffalo) drags him back. Like so many other films, THE BROTHERS BLOOM hinges on "one last job;" here, it is to steal millions from lonely, bored heiress Penelope (Rachel Weisz, THE CONSTANT GARDENDER) while they pose as antique dealers. But Bloom falls in love with the charming Penelope, and the con gets even more complicated.
Johnson's directorial debut, BRICK, was a critically aclaimed exercise in style, and THE BROTHERS BLOOM proves to be even better crafted. In both its gorgeous aesthetic and its witty script, this is a film that is incredibly modern while it remains in the spirit of classic con films such as PAPER MOON. Director of photography Steve Yedlin is a wonder with camera angles and lighting, while costume designer Beatrix Aruna Pasztor perfectly creates a vintage-inspired wardrobe for the stars. With these visuals, it might be difficult for actors to stand out, but Johnson has assembled a fantastic cast that more than holds their own. His three leads are great together, and he gets wonderful supporting work from BABEL's Rinko Kikuchi as a nearly silent explosives expert and Harry Potter favorite Robbie Coltrane as a Belgian who may or may not be on their side (and, in fact, may or may not be Belgian). There are plenty of twists and turns on this road, but this fun film proves there's joy in the journey. Brothers Bloom Reviews: "THE BROTHERS BLOOM is a con-artist movie....We expect to be played, but the twist is that we're also touched -- which, the film implies, is the cinema's own form of deception." -- Grade: B-- Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "THE BROTHERS BLOOM has it all: charming romance, jaunty adventure story, witty dialogue, gorgeous cinematography and superb performances."-- Claudia Puig, USA Today "[The director has] upped the ambition, using a light, stylish touch and a David Mamet-inspired hall-of-mirrors plot to comment on the nature of storytelling..."-- Keith Phipps, A.V. Club "Rian Johnson's THE BROTHER'S BLOOM lets us in on the con and then fools us. It does that in an interesting way."-- Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times "THE BROTHERS BLOOM is all about exploding forms, tropes and archetypes. But it's also a charmer, a witty sandbagging of one's resistance to fairy tales..."-- John Anderson, Washington Post Brothers Bloom | Orig Year | 2008 | | CD Universe Part number | 7657325 | | Release Date | New Brothers Bloom TR release date | | Rating | PG-13 (MPAA) | | Rating Reason | for violence, some sensuality and brief strong language. | | Movie Details | Color |

Brothers Bloom film
Celebrated choreographer Farah Khan (MAIN HOON NA) gets her second directing credit with this Bollywood musical set in India's film industry. DEVDAS star Shah Rukh Khan plays Om Prakash Makhija, an actor struggling to move past being an extra in 1977. But despite his lowly status, he falls in love with and meets--in that order--a lovely A-list actress named Shanti (the stunning Deepika Padukone). But their love seems doomed to fail when the pair is killed in mysterious circumstances. Fast-forward 30 years, and they have been reborn, but this time it's Om who is the celebrity while Shanti (now called Sandy) tries to climb her way to the top. But death wasn't enough to keep them apart as they meet again in their new lives, and the one responsible for their deaths will have to answer for what he did.
Though OM SHANTI OM is a fun film on its own, it works best as a celebration of Bollywood's rich history. In the sparkling ‘70s segments, actors appear alongside beloved stars of the era. There are plenty of in-jokes that ...

$14.59 In this romantic comedy, Renée Zellweger stars as Lucy Hill, a powerful businesswoman who feels right at home in glamorous Miami. But soon a business opportunity takes her to small town America, and she realizes that she may have found more there than just another way to climb the corporate ladder. Harry Connick Jr. costars as the object of Lucy's affection, and JUNO's J.K. Simmons also plays a role.
Renee Zellweger stars opposite Harry Connick Jr. in this snow-packed romantic comedy. NEW IN TOWN begins in Miami, home to Lucy Hill (Zellweger), a single, high-powered executive on the fast track to being a CEO. With her spiked heels, plush bachelorette pad, and fierce collection of power suits, Lucy is unprepared when her boss sends her to snowy Minnesota to work on-site at one of the company's factories. Reluctantly leaving her sunny home, Lucy lands in New Ulm, a small town distinguished by a thick Midwestern accent, a strong work ethic, and an appropriately skeptical attitude toward big-city newcomers like Lucy, who finds herself in a brutal battle against several factory workers, a nosy assistant (Siobhan Fallon), and a stubborn union rep (Connick) who, as fate would have it, just happens to be a love interest as well.
Zellweger appears a bit wooden at the start of the film but eases into her role as the film progresses. As her character grows more comfortable in her own skin and develops some empathy towards her new neighbors, we see Zellweger's familiar charm emerge. Much of the film's humor comes at the expense of Minnesotans, but the cast delivers the jokes in good fun. Director ...

Brothers Bloom video
$11.85 First there was THE SEVEN SAMURAI, then THE THREE AMIGOS, and now the one and only Bruce Campbell, perhaps the most dashing savior of small towns the silver screen has ever put forth. MY NAME IS BRUCE follows our hero, B-movie icon Bruce Campbell, as he rescues the small mining town of Gold Lick from the rampaging Guan Di, a Chinese god of war and protectorate of bean curd (no kidding), seeking revenge for the death of 100 Chinese miners in the town a century before.
With references to Campbell classics throughout, MY NAME IS BRUCE is a post-modern meta-movie for cult cinephiles and Cheez Whiz-huffing lowest-common-denominators alike. It's schlock moviemaking at its transparent best, built on a solid foundation of low-grade special effects, no-name actors (although Ted Raimi, brother of Sam Raimi, does make an appearance), shamelessy sophomoric humor, and buckets and buckets of blood. That said, the only thing harder to miss than Campbell's chin is the gleefully arched eyebrow that fuels his performance. Directed by the legend himself, MY NAME IS BRUCE is a playful hyperbolic send up of Campbell's career, mocking both the films and the fans that create such a figure, while likewise poking fun at the absurd amount of hubris one amasses--and subsequently survives on--after appearing in such classics as CAVE ALIENS I, II, and III (or in reality, the EVIL DEAD trilogy). MY NAME IS BRUCE perpetuates the legend of one of Hollywood's most enjoyably strange figures, and takes aim at the bloated edifice of movie stardom itself.
Something evil is stirring in the small mining town of Gold Lick, and it's not happy. Guan-di, the Chinese protector of the dead with a strange affinity for bean curd, has been awakened by reckless teenagers, and now his ...

The acclaimed filmmaking team of Agnes Jaoui and Jean-Pierre Bacri (LOOK AT ME, THE TASTE OF OTHERS) returns for another Woody Allen-esque dramedy of manners. Jaoui plays Agathe Villanova, a successful feminist and author who is about to throw her hat into the political ring. Before she does that, she heads to the south of France to visit her childhood home and help her sister, Florence (Pascale Arbillot), take care of some family affairs. Once there, Agathe is approached by bumbling documentary filmmaker Michel Ronsard (Bacri) and his new partner, ...
