When Black Flag released MY WAR, they found a meeting point for the anarchic punk they had been making and the big hard rock they grew up listening to. The punk-metal hybrid was controversial at the time but now it looks visionary. Annihilation Time must fall into the camp that worships the later Flag oeuvre, because many of the songs on TALES OF THE ANCIENT AGE could fit very comfortably on SLIP IT IN. Beer-soaked party punk such as "About To Snap" and "Just Guzzlin'" combines restless rhythms with hairy-chested FM rock leads, perfect for shattering a glass on something or other.
Photographer: Crazy Chris Carey.
Personnel: Graham Clise (guitar); Noel Sullivan (drums).
Recording information: Earhammer Studios, Oakland, CA.
Kerrang (Magazine) (p.55) - "This is proper hardcore punk 'n' roll....Annihilation Time thieve from the good stuff: the guts and glory of Black Flag and Poison Idea..." Tales Of The Ancient Age album
$5.99 The finest example of perfect disco pop, and a record that should be prescribed to musical snobs and manic depressives. The album is a true ambassador of what pop music can be. Jackson whoops and dances through a suite of unforgettable melodies that should be danced to with a smile on your face. Each track offers at least one musical hook, whether it is the beauty of 'Human Nature' (who can resist the 'dada dada da da da') or the 'whoo whoo' of 'Billie Jean'. It's all too good.
Principally recorded at Westlake Audio, Los Angeles, California.

It's always a sign that a group is hot if they release a holiday album mere months after their debut. That's the case with *NSYNC. Their debut was released in America in late March, and in early December, Home for Christmas hit the shelves. Much of the album is devoted to newer material, with only a handful of songs qualifying as standards: "The Christmas Song," "The First Noel," and "O Holy Night." All of it is given the familiar *NSYNC sheen, alternating between slickly produced adult contemporary ballads and lite dance-pop. Fans of the group will certainly find it reasonably enjoyable, even though it makes it clear that the group simply can't rival such peers as the Spice Girls or the Backstreet Boys in terms of charisma. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

| | Temptations Give Love At Christmas CD (1980)
Tales Of The Ancient Age music CDs
$5.75 This is one of the most classic R&B Christmas albums ever recorded; the Temptations come steppin' in prime form. With a chiming introduction, "Give Love on Christmas Day" is an uplifting jingle showcasing Glenn Leonard's unwavering falsetto on lead. "Everything for Christmas" has mellifluous background vocals, with string and horn arrangements rounded out by Richard Street's indelible delivery. "The Christmas Song" and "Silent ...
| | Slayer World Painted Blood CD (2009)
Tales Of The Ancient Age songs
$10.39 Of the "big four" original thrash bands (the other three being Metallica, Anthrax, and Megadeth), Slayer was the least compromising and most consistent. As such, 2009's WORLD PAINTED BLOOD recalled more than the title of Slayer's 1986 masterpiece REIGN IN BLOOD; it shared the earlier album's ferocious aggression and trademark speed metal-meets-hardcore sound. Throughout, the sound is lean and mean, with bassist/vocalist Tom Araya's vocals mixed relatively dry and upfront, giving the album a bracing, fist-to-the-face force. Jackhammer tracks such as "Hate Worldwide" and "Psychopathy Red" are short, no muss-no fuss blasts of double kick drum, minor key-riffing fury, with an unrelenting intensity that requires little in the way of sonic or textural variation. The title track, ...
| | Very Best Of Enya CD (2009)
Tales Of The Ancient Age album
$14.24 Comprised of 18 tracks culled from the singer/composer's first three decades, The Very Best of Enya was pieced together by the artist herself, along with longtime collaborators Nicky and Roma Ryan. Luckily, the trio seems enamored by most of the same songs that the general public is, resulting in one of those rare "greatest-hits" collections that goes deep without depriving the listener ...
