| | Petula Clark With All My Heart: Anthology CDs (2002)
Ce Que Je Suis Devenu album
$12.39 Petula Clark spent the 1950s making a name for herself as one of Great Britain's best known and highly regarded female pop vocalists. With All My Heart is Castle's survey of the most successful recordings she made between 1956 and 1959. (For the best material from this segment of her career, go directly to disc number two.) This anthology is named for the Nixa record label, founded in 1950 and absorbed by Pye records in 1953. Clark, who worked for Nixa/Pye from 1955-1962, soon became their most popular artist. The first disc presents 25 tunes originally issued as 45 rpm singles. Unfortunately, the excellence of Clark's rendering of George Gershwin's "Fascinating Rhythm" is overshadowed by a cotton candy cloud of lesser songs, often larded with dopey arrangements and gee-whiz backup vocals. Seeing as most people who know or care about Petula Clark associate her with '60s sunshine pop, this choke-sized wedge of mid- to late-'50s production numbers might at first seem a bit overbearing, even if it does act as a fascinating prologue to "Downtown" and "My Love." Some of this stuff's really peculiar. "Little ...

$16.69 The DeSotos are a band based in Auckland, New Zealand. Paul Gurney guitars & vocals; Stuart McIntyre bass & vocals, Rex McLeod drums & vocals and Ron Stevens Hammond organ, keyboards, acoustic guitar & vocals. The new 13 track self-funded debut album, Cross Your Heart, has been described by one reviewer as '... a powerful blend of rock-infused country-blues'. THE REVIEWS:The first review is by Manu Taylor and was broadcast on Radio New Zealand on Friday July 25. Here are a couple of quotes by Manu!'... the best album this year by a New Zealand artist - by a million miles''... the voice is just genius''... seriously the best vocalist I've heard in a long time'Manu Taylor - Jul 25, 2008___________________________________Steve Scott of the Waikato Times: (House and Lifestyle, August 2008)Every once in a while, an album arrives and instantly commands your attention. Auckland band, The DeSotos is such a band. From the very beginning, The DeSotos don't disappoint. They are illuminating with a powerful blend of rock-infused country-blues. The musicians that make up this band - Paul Gurney, Rex McLeod, Stuart McIntyre and Ron Stevens - reveal a strong chemistry that celebrates a rockin' spirit of musical communion. Tracks including The Spirit, Greedy Men, Invisible and Goodbye, are timeless, perfectly arranged and delivered in earnest and, at times, harmonic tones. Other compositions, including Sat on a Mountain, with blazing harmonica from Midge Marsden and Love Lost Time featuring a lead guitar highlight recalling the late Duane Allman's Eat a Peach period, reveals The DeSotos have struck gold with Cross Your Heart. One of the finest debuts I have heard this year. ___________________________________Graeme ...
