FROM THE COOP is a 43-minute collection of rare demos recorded in 1988 that cumulatively sounds like a cross between an early-1980s horror film score and an Eddie van Halen rehearsal tape. Buckethead's arrangements defy logic; the basic song structure may be simple power rock, but the man compresses so much virtuosity into it that the amalgam of sound is almost overwhelming. As the album progresses, the listener descends further into guitar-frenzied madness. Pretty much anything a guitarist could ever do with a guitar appears somewhere on this album: flamenco runs, classical arpeggios, Parliament-styled funk, free jazz, acid rock, southern-fried twang, and even speed metal. From these demos alone, it's readily apparent that Buckethead is well-versed in music way beyond the capacities of the average guitarist.
Buckethead fans will welcome the From the Coop CD the same way a Beatles fan would welcome a CD worth of decent-sounding Beatles tracks from 1959, or guitar fans would welcome never-before-heard Eddie Van Halen from 1975. The 19 tracks on From the Coop predate all other Buckethead releases by three years. They are, in fact, the first multi-track recordings Buckethead ever made. He created them in 1988 for a pal who worked as an editor for a guitar magazine, and already it's all there -- the unparalleled technique, the achingly beautiful solos, incredible shredding, wry twists and turns, and best of all, a musical imagination light years beyond his contemporaries. The guitar-intensive fare includes many surprises, from previously unknown treasures to future fan faves 'Hog Bitch Stomp' and 'Scraps.' Buckethead drew the CD's cover art (a young version of himself in a ghostly chicken coop). An 'official' Buckethead album, Acoustic Shards features Buckethead alone on acoustic guitar. The sound is excellent! Milton L. Hardy, Jr. was born in Roanoke, VA on June 25, 1976. He began singing at the tender age of 5 and has had a passion for music every since. He grew up in a family of singers, preachers and musicians, which only fueled his hunger to explore his musical talents.
