It was no mean feat for an R&B singer debuting in 1999 to embody the aesthetics of vintage soul without resorting to retro '70s stylings. On her first album, Macy Gray manages to bring old-school values to a very contemporary sound. One is immediately struck by Gray's unique, ...

Prophecy CD music
$17.69 Don Thomas grew up in the Southeastern part of Texas about 100 miles from Houston. He loved the music of the 50's and 60's and would sometimes go to sleep with his phonograph playing albums of Elvis Presley, Johnny Mathis, Frank Sinatra and other artists from that time period. Although he had a great appreciation for the vocal talents in popular music he never tried to sing until much later in life. He was already a grandfather, thanks to his daughter, and it was the day his son was to be married. As he listened to the plans for the reception, he was surprised to hear that his son was going to sing a song to his new bride. His son had never sang before he went off to college and Don was astonished to hear him play his guitar and sing a beautiful song, for which he had written the music and lyric. Don said at the time, “I didn’t know you could just learn to sing. I thought you had to be born with the gift.” Soon after the wedding he made a decision to do whatever it took to become an accomplished vocalist.Don had a background as a decorated veteran military pilot, an accountant with a large accounting firm and a real estate broker owning his own investment company. In a normal business fashion, he immediately bought books on learning to sing and went to work. He soon started taking lessons from an opera singer. These lessons lasted for about a year. He had no intention of singing opera, but he wanted to build a strong voice and learn the proper fundamentals before he began his recording efforts. He attributes his strong baritone voice to the proper techniques learned in those early lessonsWithin a year he had recorded his first CD and was beginning to be recognized in the Houston area. As he sang for weddings, private parties and even karaoke at some of the most prestigious clubs, people begin to ask about more CD’s from him. He has now produced five ...

$10.15 The Indianapolis, IN based band officially started the fall of ’02. Long-time friends Bryan and Ted started playing around with some musical ideas. Bryan then picked up guitar so that they could see how entire songs sounded. Shortly thereafter, they met Dwite, who was a friend of Bryan’s brother, Alex. Dwite began playing guitar for the band early of ’03, and Louis, Ted’s Brother-n-law, joined the band singing. This line-up lead to a few more songs ideas. After this, the band separated from Dwite and Louis and at first it seems they would stay disbanded. Derek joined the band as a temporary singer while Dwite sat in for one last show [in Bryan's basement]. After this show, Bryan began talking with a friend of his from Lincoln Tech, named Stephen Guy, since they would soon need a new guitarist. After the addition of Stephen, Derek decided that he would also like to play guitar. This left the band with two guitarists but no singers.TJ, a friend of Ted’s fiancee, Lindsey, showed interest in the band and after Derek had asked him to try out, was quickly added to the line up. This led the band to a 5-person set up with Derek and Stephen filling the guitar section and TJ with vocals. The band practiced a lot, helping ...
