Hi there, Scott Mcilwain here! Thanks for taking a look at “Pump That Countryâ€. My co-writer Dale Crockett and I really appreciate your interest. I hope that in the CD listing the part about “not giving a rat's behind for the Nashville sound these days piqued your interest and made you look a little closer at us.Dale and I sure don’t like the state of country music these days and we know millions of country music fans are of the same opinion. I’ll get back to that a bit later. Now let me tell you a little about myself, Dale and the CD. Dale and I met back in 1997 at a songwriters club in Grove City, Ohio called â€Songwriters and Poets Critiqueâ€. We didn’t start working together until the summer of 1999. I had no musical ability in that I couldn’t write music or play a guitar or anything else, (I did play a mean air guitar, though). I had always loved music and singing and began writing songs using the music and melodies I could hear inside my head. I just didn’t know how to take the next step until I became involved with the club and met Dale. Dale, on the other hand had a long list of credentials – being an accomplished guitarist, writer, arranger and producer, and having his own recording studio business. He was well versed in the music business and had played in several bands touring the U.S. and Canada. Dale was a great tunesmith and what I needed to take that next step. We probably aren’t your typical songwriting team, as Dale puts the music to my melodies but it sure works for us and we’re thankful for the relationship we have built, going on nine years now. Shortly after having met, Dale and I found something big we had in common - an extreme dislike for the music coming out of Nashville and the country music industry as a whole, with it’s pop/rock sound and their “cookie cutter†country stars. It’s a shame that the powers that be in Nashville determine what music we hear on country radio as a whole. In short, millions of country music fans are being slowly starved to death. Although Dale and I had never put out our own CD (until now), we’ve had many of our songs recorded by other artists. It was through one of those artists, Damon Mitchell, and one of our songs he recorded – “Marvine†- that we met Nick Brooks in 2005. Nick, one of the DJ’s at WSEO-FM radio Nelsonville, Ohio was playing “Marvine†and getting a huge amount of great listener feedback and tons of requests for the song. As with Dale and I, Nick also shared our opinion of today’s country music direction. We gave Nick one of our songs that leaves no doubt as to how we feel about “today’s country†called “Kick The Livin’ Pop (Outa the Nashville Sound)". Nick loved the song, and said it should be heard. He decided to play it on the air, and the response from listeners was absolutely incredible! Folks began requesting the song and it didn’t take long for the song to be put in regular rotation. Sadly, as is the case with many independent radio stations that are bought out or decide to go to satellite radio, our great run on the airwaves ended in 2006. However, Nick says he STILL gets requests for “Kick The Livin’ Pop†when he’s out doing live remote broadcasts. In wanting our music to be heard, Dale and I decided at the end of 2006 to produce our own CD and thought that CD Baby would be a great direction ...
