Additional Footage; Soundtrack English; DVD Included; Special Edition In this spoof of Hollywood blockbusters, director and screenwriter Craig Mazin (THE SPECIALS) tackles the age-old story of a regular guy who suddenly finds that he possesses super powers. Ricky Riker (Drake Bell) is a typical teenager, except that his luck is worse then most. Basically, he's a loser. He's been in love with beautiful Jill (Sara Paxton) for years, but is sure she doesn't know he exists. Even his techie best friend, Trey (Kevin Hart), is willing to throw him over for another clique. But Rick's life changes dramatically when a genetically enhanced dragonfly bites him during a school field trip. In a flash, he becomes the Dragonfly. He can scale buildings, and has immense strength--though he's still a klutz. Rick isn't sure he has what it takes to be a superhero, but it's up to him to save the city from the villainous Hourglass (Christopher McDonald), who literally sucks the life out of people, and threatens to harm those dearest to Rick.
Mazin, who was one of the screenwriters for both SCARY MOVIE 3 and SCARY MOVIE 4, spoofs a gamut of superheroes, including Batman, Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men. Marion Ross and Leslie Nielsen appear as Rick's Aunt Lucille and Uncle Albert, and a multitude of stars appear onscreen, albeit briefly, including Tracy Morgan, Regina Hall, Simon Rex, Craig Bierko, Pamela Anderson, Robert Hays, and Nicole Sullivan. Miles Fisher is particularly amusing as Tom Cruise, and Brent Spiner plays Hourglass's sidekick. Stick around after the credits start rolling for some additional footage. Superhero Movie! Reviews: 3 stars out of 5 -- "The film-makers are masters of parody and shamelessly cram the movie full of satirical wit, endless cinematic spoofs, funny comic book-inspired one-liners, and sharp-edged lampoons of every superhero movie we've ever seen."-- Ultimate DVD Staff, Ultimate DVD Superhero Movie! | List Price | $14.95 (You save $4.86) | | Studio | Weinstein Company / Genius | | Orig Year | 2008 | | DVD Encoding | Region 1 | | All Time Sales Rank | 18374 | | CD Universe Part number | 7661684 | | Catalog number | 81339 | | Discs | 1 | | Release Date | Jul 08, 2008 | | Rating | PG-13 (MPAA) | | Rating Reason | for crude and sexual content, comic violence, drug references and language | | Also Known As | Superhero! | | Additional Info | Widescreen; Subtitled; Unrated | | Movie Details | Color; Widescreen; Subtitled; Unrated; Extended Edition |
Superhero Movie! Movie Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) It's a spoof, It's a lame...No, it's Superhero Movie! Sure, some of the jokes and gags are lame, but, enough of them were so laugh-out-loud funny that I enjoyed it very much. Drake Bell did a great job as the hero, and the movie even has Marion Ross of Happy Days fame, and Leslie Nielsen in it, who I can't believe is still making movies after all these years! Leslie Nielsen has some of the best lines in this movie by the way, especially if you watch the deleted scenes. All in all, if life is getting you down, and you want to forget your troubles for a little while and have some chuckles and laughs, this movie will put a smile on your face. | | Skinwalkers DVD (2007) Widescreen; Subtitled
Superhero Movie! film
$9.99 Though a statement at the opening of the film explains that the creatures of the title are, in Native American lore, people who have the ability to transform into various animals, SKINWALKERS focuses on two warring factions of werewolves. One is a family concentrated on protecting Timothy (Matthew Knight), a boy about to turn 13 who is the offspring of mortal Rachel (Rhona Mitra) and a Skinwalker. Timothy's family, led by kindly Uncle Jonas (Elias Koteas), chooses to avoid slaughtering innocents during full moons by restraining themselves in straps in the back of a beaten traveling camper. Their rival clan, captained by Varek (Jason Behr), lives with a leather-clad biker gang, riding from town to town and reveling in their bloodlust. When the clock strikes midnight on Timothy's birthday, he will be able to (in terms not explicitly spelled out) end the bloody reign of the Skinwalkers--but not if Varek and his gang can catch and kill Timothy before he officially becomes a teenager.
SKINWALKERS focuses more on its action sequences than on the horror elements, but those seeking a good chase sequence will find plenty to enjoy in the film's second half. Director James Isaac (JASON X) gives the film a graphic novel-like visual style, with plenty of red tints and scenes of rising moons. Elias Koteas (CRASH, EXOTICA) seems to be having fun as a werewolf patriarch, but veteran Canadian supporting actress Barbara Gordon seems to be enjoying herself even more as a pistol-packing grandma. Stan Winston's creature designs resemble ...
