For the High Water Marks, Apples in Stereo's Hilarie Sydney steps out from behind the drum set, straps on a guitar, shares vocals with her husband Per Ole Bratset, and joins with a rhythm section of Mike Snowden and Jim Lindsay. The quartet continues its hearty brand of appealingly jangly, sunshine-y power pop on the 2007 sophomore release, POLAR. As with another Apples offshoot, Dressy Bessy, the seed doesn't fall too far away from the Apples' tree, tweaking the sound only slightly, but as with all three of these Denver, Colorado, bands, the formula works. Polar album
$9.58 Susan Boyle's grand unveiling on Britain's Got Talent was with a song from Les Miserables - the very song that lends this album its title -- and if she could become an international sensation based on a show tune standard, there's no reason for her to change her approach on her debut, since that's the sound that made her a star. Plus, a large part of Boyle's appeal is that she's a middle-aged woman recalling a bygone era when there were singers that appealed to an adult audience by offering soft, stately versions of pop hits and standards. That time was the late `60s ...

$10.39 Like the HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL franchise, GLEE became more than a TV show when several of its songs cracked the Hot 100, including the number four hit "Don't Stop Believing." That song kicks off this soundtrack, the first in a series of albums cataloging the music performed by the show's cast. Not all GLEE members are created equal--some cast mates are far better actors than singers--but this soundtrack has enough star power to keep things trucking ...

Polar music CDs
$20.29 ¡Buenos dias, Astor! When, in the seventies, I happened to discover some notes and discs of your tangos, I began to adore you and your music. It was an experience of overwhelming splendour, of powerful, emotional colours as well as of penetrating recitatives in oeuvres full of glowing rhythm nobody could ignore. At once I included some of your tangos in my soloist program. You achieved things in music that – at their time – J. Strauß achieved with waltzes and polkas, and F.Chopin with polonaises, waltzes and mazurkas. You raised the tango from the ballroom to the concert stage! And now they are not only danced but also listened to. They are no longer for legs only but also for ears.In the summer of 1992, when I learned about your death at a festival in Finland, I – your admirer for long years – suddenly remembered: “He, as the only one, played his own compositions! However, this excellent music deserves to be played more often, and that in the biggest concert halls and by the best musicians!” And in Sept. 1993 the first concert of my quintet “Studio Piazolla” took place in the little hall of the Moscow Conseratory: “Argentinian Tangos by Astor Piazolla”. The world of your tangos is full of vivacity and passion; You entrusted the most secret sides of the human soul to the Bandoneon. Your easily remembered melodies which are based on smooth and powerful Latin-American rhythms, carry the listeners off to the secrets of man's nature: from pure love to passion that consumes and despises everything. In your oeuvres we also find the topic of solitude and grief: Soledad, Oblivion, Milonga del Angel, Muerte del Angel, Adios Nonino. The topic of farewell has also been continued by some of your admirers – composers of the oeuvre "Adios, Astor!" – a rather naive title.Well, I do not think that you have left us. You just passed on to another dimension, however, you stayed with us through your unique creations. With this CD containing your wonderful tangos I tell you “Buenos Dias, Astor!”Friedrich Lips1-10 Friedrich Lips, bayan1-3, 5-10 Vladislav Igolinsky, violin1-3, 5-10 Kirill Rodin, cello1-10 Svjatoslav Lips, piano3, 5, 6, 7,10 Mark Pekarsky, percussions 1, 2, 9 Nikolaj Lgovsky, percussions 4 Vladimir Toncha, celloFriedrich Lips is People’s Artist of Russia, professor at the Russian Gnessin Academy of Music in Moscow. $14.25 Melodies and sound combinations can take the listeners to a place where their minds are not used to explore; Porter was searching for this when they started as a band.It was in the year of 2004 in Guadalajara, Jalisco MĂ©xico when Juan Pablo Vázquez “Chata” (Drums), Fernando de la Huerta “Huerta” (Guitar), VĂctor Valverde “VĂllor”(Guitar), Diego Rangel “Bacther” (Synths, Bass and programming ) and Juan Carlos Pereda “Musgo”(Voice) got together and named themselves PORTER, they started creating music, with different talents and similar vision.Once together in July 2004 they recorded the song “No te encuentro” in 3er Piso Studios so they could get into the preliminary of a music contest “O-MUSIC MEXICO-COLOMBIA”. Weeks later they received good news, they were chosen in between a thousand bands, to participate in the semifinals that took place in Mexico City, at the National Auditorium in mid August (2004). The theme was recorded in the album compilation. In October (2004) they got back in the studio, to create their first album “Donde Los Pony´s Pastan” coproduced by Alex PĂ©rez “Orko” (Azul Violeta) this first material, made of 7 songs, sounds fresh and interesting. At the beginning of December same year, REACTOR, the radio station from the capital city, started playing “ESPIRAL” that became in advanced, their first single of the album. By March (2005) the first trimester of the year, “ESPIRAL” was the most requested national single by the audience. That same month Porter was invited to play at the NU-Tone Festival in Hard Rock Live, next to Zoe, She is a tease and Bengala. This was their first show in Mexico City and the place was totally full.A week later, Porter played at MANIFEST (2005), next to Ian Brown (ex Stone Roses), La Lupita, among other bands. In April 16, Porter produced a stampede of 10,000 people at the blue stage of the Vive Latino Music Festival (2005) this was a revelation that surprised all. They played among bands like, CafĂ© Tacvba, Sussie 4, Zoe, Babasonicos, Botellita de jerez, Vicentico, Ely Guerra, Molotov, Moderatto, Los Pericos, Austin TV, etc.A month after this, Porter had their first show as a main band, next to Austin TV and Phono. Entries were sold out. A week later the symbolic Bull Dog cafĂ© opens their doors ...
