City By City album
$17.59 Anyone familiar with the industrial-metal band's dark sense of irony should take one look at the title of Rammstein's 2009 album LIEBE IST FUR ALLE DA ("Love Is There For Everyone") and conclude that this one is a mean monster. Combining the tightness and punch of their 1998 album SEHNSUCHT with the musicianship and elaborate textures of their later work, LIEBE IST is a grand achievement, skillfully dividing its time between razor sharp metal rockers like "B********" or the opening theme song "Rammlied" and nostalgic, cabaret pieces that conjure the spirits of Weil and Brecht at a goth club. Best of the latter is the naked and haunting closer "Roter Sand" but little touches of a sinister yesteryear are everywhere, like the fake vaudeville music in "Haifisch" or the soundtrack strings of "Wiener Blut" which are eventually overcome by a guitar crunching juggernaut. This strange mix of styles is more effective here than it has been for about a decade, and ...
| | Kiss Sonic Boom CDs (2009)
City By City CD music
$16.09 When SONIC BOOM was released, it had been over a decade since the last Kiss studio album, so expectations were understandably high. In addition, the intervening period had seen the band fire two of its founding members for the second time, only to replace them with sidemen wearing Ace Frehley and Peter Criss's iconic makeup. Luckily, the new additions, unlike some of Kiss's "un-masked years" members, have a good feel for classic Kiss. That fact, matched with Paul Stanley's assumption of production duties, makes SONIC BOOM one of the most consistent and thoroughly Kiss-sounding albums since the group's `70s heyday. That said, the New York City unit manages to branch out a bit; alongside very ROCK & ROLL OVER/LOVE GUN-esque tracks such as the Gene Simmons-sung rockers "Yes I Know (Nobody's Perfect)" and "Russian Roulette," sit ambitious ...

City By City songs
$5.75 In the tradition of bands such as Metallica and Judas Priest, Pantera put themselves on the map with supercharged blues-based metal riffs and screaming/singing vocals. Adding groove to their artistic aggression made COWBOYS FROM HELL a landmark for the band.
With the relentless "Primal Concrete Sledge," Pantera take a chance and incorporate industrial elements into their style, a risky move for a metal band in 1990. "Psycho Holiday" showcases ...

| | Glenna O'Quinn Who I Am CD (2008)
City By City album
$25.29 Glenna O'Quinn started her musical journey as a young child on her family farm, singing with her 5 brothers and sister. Music was a very special bond that her family shared and many wonderful memories were made up from moments around the family piano singing family favorites from country, gospel, hymns and folk songs. There wasn't a specific type of music that she loved; just the opportunity to sing and perform was her passion. From those original days sitting at the piano and standing on the family clothesline stand with a hockey stick for a microphone, O'Quinn dreamed of one day creating a life around her deep love of music. As the years passed however, her dream was packed away as she settled for the 'road most travel', getting a university degree and heading out in the 'real world for a real job'. After completing her Degree in Business, her corporate career took her down many amazing paths and incredible journey's as she worked with the distribution arm of Time Warner, managing magazines such as People, Time, Life and Sports Illustrated and then leading her to other organizations such as Mosaic Group - Sales & Merchandising Group and Cadbury Schweppes Inc. In the end, each of these opportunities provided the experience and the foundation that would eventually bring her back to her 'heart' and begin writing the music of her life. O'Quinn says of her corporate career, 'it's not that I didn't enjoy and learn from these careers, but what I learned most was that this choice was taking me further and further away from what I wanted in my life and what I believe is my purpose; writing music and sharing it with others'. Life took a wild turn in terms of purpose in 1993 when she met her soon-to-be husband Sean and he began encouraging and 'seriously persuading' O'Quinn to do something more with her songs. Her husband says, 'She just channels this unbelievable ability to connect to people through her words and music, it just touches their heart directly and I was determined to share that gift of hers with everyone. ' After losing his mother and her deeply loved mother-in-law a number of years later, O'Quinn began diving deeper and deeper into her passion and began writing songs of remembering about those who have touched her life. This CD is a story book to of her life, however, ironically it feels like it is the story of the life of many, as she sings about love, life, disease, home and being a woman. Each song holds a deep connect to her beliefs that 'all that is, was meant to be and if we just ask the question of what we need to learn from each situation, versus why has this happened, then our path will be much more fulfilling, true and personally authentic. ' One of the greatest gifts that O'Quinn has is the ability to create the songs that connect to others in ways that they can't even find the words to say themselves. Most specifically in her song of personal reflection, 'Who I Am', she expresses the questions about the many roles as a woman that she plays, and still trying to find the one thing that defines exactly who she is. This is something ...
