| | Dead Can Dance Spleen And Ideal CD Dead Can Dance Discography of CDs
SPLEEN AND IDEAL is a profoundly different sounding record than its self-titled predecessor. It seems to have been recorded in a completely different time, perhaps by the 14th century ancestors of Brendan Perry and Lisa Gerrard, if they had access to electric guitars and synthesizers. The tracks are all stately, muted affairs that actually managed to evoke the images that their titles suggest--the best example of this is the brittle, gorgeous "Circumradiant Dawn," which sounds like a hymn written to accompany Earth's very first sunrise.
Among the standouts here are "De Profundis (Out of the Depths of Sorrow)," where Lisa Gerrard's voice soars above the haunting, sustained chords of the music; "Ascension," with its moody trombones and a cavernous echo so deep you can feel the space around you expanding and contracting; and "Avatar," which makes traditional rock & roll instrumentation sound astonishingly alien. SPLEEN AND IDEAL really hits its peak, however, with "Enigma of the Absolute." Brendan Perry's soft, deep voice resonates around each syllable, accompanied by sawed violins, a muted bass drum thumping in the background, and an exceptionally bright-sounding hurdy-gurdy. If you buy only one Dead Can Dance record, it ought to be this one.
SACD Hybrid Remastered CD of Spleen & Ideal, the second album recorded by Dead Can Dance, released in 1986. A rather etheral form of darkwave music, similar to the origins in their debut album, Dead Can Dance, and followed a more World music and Neoclassical oriented content, with lyrics based on the writings of Charles Baudelaire and Thomas de Quincey. $17.95 Dead Can Dance's TOWARD THE WITHIN is a live album, but don't let that persuade you not to buy it. Most of the tracks here (11 of 15) are not on any of the group's studio records, and all of them are flat-out spectacular. This is one of the band's best albums, live or otherwise.
The opener, "Rakim," condenses everything that makes Dead Can Dance a brilliant band into six minutes. Musically, it features an instrumental introduction with a dense, droning backing while a bouzouki skitters across the surface and, eventually, a strikingly expressive percussion section. Vocally, it features Brendan Perry singing ...

Listeners with an SACD player will experience greater sonic quality and optimum listening pleasure.Suitcase Pimps Unleash \"Love is Grand\" Stereo SACDThe Tale of the Suitcase Pimps begins with the partnership of guitarists Pete Lauck and Brad Henderson. \"We began writing songs and recording them in demo fashion, thinking that no one would ever hear them. We just created music that we wanted to hear,\" says Lauck. At the time the pair were entrenched in the music business via studio work and live projects and more often than not playing music that was not to their liking. \"There is a great compromise you make when you are a gun for hire, these songs were made to quell the inner desire to do something grand,\" exclaims Henderson. \"We never cared whether anyone would hear the music, we just created because we had to,\" states Lauck.Flash forward a year later when up and coming producer John Billings stumbled upon a DAT recording of the \"Pimps\" demo\'s. \"I was struck most by the inner conflict and torment those songs contained, knowing those two guys personally, I realized that they had both poured there twisted little hearts into every note,\" Billings recalls. Billings immediately contacted the pair. \"This was the diamond in the rough every producer looks for,\" he adds.Henderson and Lauck then began the process of compiling all the material they had and trimming it down to the absolute best. Yet the turning point in the evolution of the record came when Henderson noticed ...
