Jumping All Over The World album
$11.18 With Adam Lambert, American Idol finally got a finalist who was completely, utterly contemporary, aware of what's hip in music and culture and aware of how music is made and consumed in 2009, never seeming to try to follow fads or set trends, just embodying the time. Mercifully, he came in second to Kris Allen, for if he came in first he may have had to tame his self-styled glamazon ways. A second place finish allowed Lambert to come out of the closet and indulge in his penchant for theater on his debut, For Your Entertainment -- which isn't quite the same thing as camp, for if Adam Lambert is anything, he's earnest about his dress-up, never winking at the audience because he doesn't think there's much funny about his glitter and mascara: that's just what pop stars are supposed to do. He's learned that by listening to his stacks of Queen and Bowie records, from watching old MTV videos on YouTube, from living in a present that always competes with the ever-present past, so he takes it all at face value, mixing up arena rock guitars, new wave, disco, operatic overdubs with a constant electro pulse, glassy modern R&B, and the vague Euro strains of new millennium teen pop. All this makes For Your Entertainment very, very modern in a way few mainstream pop albums are in 2009, whether they're products of the American Idol/19 machine or not: Max Martin, Dr. Luke, Rivers Cuomo, P!nk, Lady GaGa, Linda Perry, Ryan Tedder, Muse's Matthew Bellamy, and Justin Hawkins ...

$14.79 “ A west coast sound with west coast flavor, but labeling Rockemical one dimensional is something that you just shouldn’t do”Arriving in Arizona in late 2000 from Seattle, Rockemical has been a man on a mission. Determined to get his life on track, Rockemical turned to what he knew best - music. Rockemical began buying beats from all the local producers. Instantly they decided to join forces and put an album together. Dualz was formed shortly there after - they got the name Dualz because the group consist of two members, Avery Baker aka Rockemical and Milton Barnett aka Alius. $16.45 I suppose I got myself into this mess in the third grade when I started making up lyrics to my favorite Nintendo game melodies. As the years passed, my resentment grew as my musical talent faced the constant interruption of illogical deaths- squashed by walking mushrooms, boomeranged by ninjas, crushed by barrels of bananas. It became clear to me that, at the fragile age of eight, I had outgrown the Nintendo Idol Industry.Thinking about my long and arduous musical career that lay ahead of me, I decided to be proactive and joined my Elementary School Orchestra, playing the violin. Mrs. Lunsford ran a tight ship, and beat me over the head with a rosined bow for every flat note I hit in “Jingle Bells.” Though some would consider it to be child abuse, I chalked it up to an experience in discipline and kept my eyes on the prize. While in hell (more commonly known as “Middle School,” ) I used my classical violin training to branch out to other instruments: banjo, ukulele, didgeridoo, piano, accordion and harmonica. It wasn’t until high school that I (reluctantly) tried my hand at guitar. It was “trendy,” and being a rebellious punk rocker who didn’t shower and wore suspenders with torn, plaid pants, I wanted nothing to do with the crowd that played godawful covers of Dave Matthews and 311. I was better than that. But was I?It was nothing short of love at first sight the day my mom came home from Costco, carting with her two months supply of paper towels, 300 off-brand strawberry snack packs (which no one ever ate) and that beautiful, shiny, cheap-as-hell Takamine guitar. It was mine, all mine, and I locked myself in the basement with nothing but old blues, swing and bluegrass albums. When I emerged from my cocoon, I had a large, slimy thorax and crumpled wings covered in mucous. Not really, though.College is where the majority of my lyrical songwriting began. It took a mass amount of stupid people crammed in a very small space to piss me off enough in order to write precise and immaculate lyrics. That being said, I also met people with souls as lovely as the Autumn wind—this is what I focused my energy on. Love, peace and tranquility. It’s my hope that those qualities are heard in my music. These days I spend as much time as I can traveling: New Zealand, Samoa, South Africa, Swaziland, Ghana, Mexico. I’ll go anywhere with just a pair of flip flops and a guitar. The song “Talofa Lava” sums it up pretty well: “And into the sky, I’m out of the loop. I’m culturally confused, but that’s nothing new. I’ve got a lot to see, got a lot to do. Traveling the world for a little bit of truth. I left my cellphone, email and bars, brought the Tao Te Ching and my old guitar. This is what I’ve learned so far…”Recently I’ve moved from my hometown (Washington DC) to my new hometown (Austin, Texas) in pursuit of this crazy dream that some of us call “music.” I love playing shows and am always booking tours—so if you’d like me to stop on by a seedy bar near you, just let me know and I’d ...
