This is a hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both regular and Super Audio CD players.
Dead Can Dance's SPIRITCHASER continues the band's interest in widening their musical (and lyrical) palate. This album contains Haitian, Native American, and modern dance influences, and even clips a reference from a George Harrison song ("Within You, Without You") on "Indus." The record's sleeve contains a brief discussion of how music is the expression of souls contained within instruments. This theme is oddly, though probably not accidentally, in keeping with the fact that SPIRITCHASER was the last Dead Can Dance record--following it, Brendan Perry and Lisa Gerrard parted ways to pursue individual careers.
Standouts include the spectacular, and lengthy (at around 10 minutes), "Song of the Stars," a section of which is sung in Haitian; the aforementioned "Indus," built on Gerrard's amazing voice; and "Song of the Dispossessed," in which the narrator, through Perry's resonant voice, laments the loss of the old world to the influence of Christianity. The best track here, though, is "The Snake and the Moon," which uses electric guitars and medieval choral vocals to create something that shows that Dead Can Dance are as hip to the contemporary as they are to the out-of-time. SPIRITCHASER is a fitting final chapter to this band's fascinating work.
SACD/Hybrid Stereo Remastered CD of the1996 Spiritchaser album by Dead Can Dance, a band comprising of Lisa Gerrard on contralto and Brendan Perry on baritone, which formed in Melbourne, Australia in 1981 and initially based there. The duo disbanded in 1998 but reunited temporarily for a world tour in 2005. Spiritchaser was the last studio album of Dead Can Dance before Brendan Perry and Lisa Gerrard went their separate ways. It expands on their exploration of world music and like Into the Labyrinth, Spiritchaser was recorded at Quivvy Church, Perry's personal studio in Ireland. 6 tracks.
Dead Can Dance: Lisa Gerrard, Brendan Perry (vocals).Entertainment Weekly (7/12/96, p.59) - "...The eclecticism can border on preachy, but their Gaelic vocals and muted polyrhythms produce a haunting ambiance less grating than much world music, and more worldy than most." - Rating: B+ Q (8/96, p.116) - 3 Stars - Good - "...the duo have stripped away Perry's melodramatic Scott Walker-isms and their Tudor madrigals for the more anthropological adventures of tribal beats and global folk textures..." Option (9-10/96, p.101) - "...SPIRITCHASER descends from the duo's usual nether atmospheres into a realm of tribal percussion and chant, casting a comprehensive net over various world music traditions....Lisa Gerrard's voice [is as] gorgeous as always..." NME (Magazine) (6/22/96, p.54) - 7 (out of 10) - "...Dead Can Dance are big on moods....it gets more tribal, more textured. Melody tends to go walkabout, but that's OK because there's always a good chant or bizarre musical instrument to liven things up..." Dead Can Dance Spiritchaser Songs | 1. | Nierika |

Spiritchaser album
$21.79 Having crafted such a singular sound for himself both in Dire Straits and as a respected film composer, it's gratifying to hear that Mark Knopfler's consummate musicianship has only gotten better on what is only his second solo album in a career that began in the mid- '70s. For SAILING TO PHILADELPHIA, Knopfler once again looks to America for inspiration, starting with the stirring title track that draws from Thomas Pynchon's fictionalized account of English adventurers/surveyors Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon and which finds James Taylor playing Mason to Knopfler's Dixon. Other numbers benefiting from this American muse are the ethereal "Sands of Nevada," the Farfisa-driven "Do America" and the low-key "Prairie Wedding" (featuring alt country stalwarts Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, who also appear on the chugging "Speedway At Nazareth").
Elsewhere, Knopfler entertains a host of famous friends throughout a slew of tasty tracks. Van Morrison duets on the laid-back "The Last Laugh" while Squeeze's Chris Difford and Glen Tilbrook add harmonies to the nostalgic twang of "Silvertown." The most impressive cameo comes from famed bluegrass fiddler Aubrey Haynie whose playing fuses with Knopfler's fat guitar tone to transform ...

This is a hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both regular and Super Audio CD players.
Ferry's first solo effort since the second breakup of Roxy Music is arguably his best, in part because it continues in the direction the band had been going. It's like AVALON, only more so.
Here, Ferry's lounge lizard affectations are writ large; the lyrical pose is all bruised romantic fatalism (say hello, "Slave to Love"), and the music fits it like a glove. The album's soundscapes are ...

Spiritchaser music CDs
$128.05 Released during late 2006 in honor of the Doors' 40th anniversary, PERCEPTION is a six-CD/six-DVD box set that not only features all of the legendary Los Angeles rock band's classic albums, but includes rare recordings and video footage on companion bonus discs. Boasting newly remastered sound, the compilation traces the arc of the group's years fronted by the brooding, mercurial Jim Morrison, an undeniably charismatic and compelling performer who boldly announced the arrival of the band on its thrilling first single "Break On Through (To The Other Side)," and later heralded the act's demise on the haunting "Riders on the Storm." In between, the set features other outstanding Doors tracks such as the macabre "People Are ...

| | Toward The Within CD (1994) Remastered; Sacd Hybrid
Spiritchaser album
$17.95 Dead Can Dance's TOWARD THE WITHIN is a live album, but don't let that persuade you not to buy it. Most of the tracks here (11 of 15) are not on any of the group's studio records, and all of them are flat-out spectacular. This is one of the band's best albums, live or otherwise.
The opener, "Rakim," condenses everything that makes Dead Can Dance a brilliant band into six minutes. Musically, it features an instrumental introduction with a dense, droning backing while a bouzouki skitters across the surface and, eventually, a strikingly expressive percussion section. Vocally, it features Brendan Perry singing in a language that you are unlikely to know, Lisa Gerrard's fabulous voice yodeling in a way you have never heard, and a last verse, in English, delivered in Perry gorgeous, resonant tones. If this doesn't sell you on this band, nothing will. The best track here, though, is Perry's amazing singer/songwriter turn on "American Dreaming," which stands out like a blast of cool breeze on a hot day when its simplicity is compared to the band's denser material. Of all the DCD albums, this one shows the group stretching the farthest, and succeeding all the way.
SACD Hybrid Remastered CD of the 1994 album Toward The Within is the only official live album of Brendan Perry and Lisa Gerrard's Dead Can Dance. It contains 15 songs, of which only ...
| | Dead Can Dance Spleen And Ideal CD (1985) Remastered; Sacd Hybrid
Spiritchaser CD music
$18.05 SPLEEN AND IDEAL is a profoundly different sounding record than its self-titled predecessor. It seems to have been recorded in a completely different time, perhaps by the 14th century ancestors of Brendan Perry and Lisa Gerrard, if they had access to electric guitars and synthesizers. The tracks are all stately, muted affairs that actually managed to evoke the images that their titles suggest--the best example of this is the brittle, gorgeous "Circumradiant Dawn," which sounds like a hymn written to accompany Earth's very first sunrise.
Among the standouts here are "De Profundis (Out of the Depths of Sorrow)," where Lisa Gerrard's voice soars above the haunting, sustained chords of the music; "Ascension," with its moody trombones and a cavernous echo so deep you can feel the space around you expanding and contracting; and "Avatar," which makes traditional rock & roll instrumentation sound astonishingly alien. SPLEEN AND IDEAL really ...

$13.85 Billy Dodd, a part-time pianist who was a doctor for 51 years, in 1983 had a rare opportunity to head an all-star group full of major players. Dodd leads the sextet through a dozen Dixieland standards and sounds quite happy accompanying the main soloists. This set is of greatest interest for the playing of trombonist ...
