From the outskirts to the depths of Pottstown, what started out as an idea quickly became reality. From one failed project to another Mike decided to take one last attempt of forming a band before packing it in for good. He teamed up with long time family friend Dan, who was at the time beginning to play drums. The two were naturally compatible with each other and decided at that point to bring in the other long time family friend Lu. From go, Lu fit like a glove and after only a week they hit the studio to record a four-song demo. The only thing the three were missing was a singer. Lu called his friend J and after the second song, he reached every expectation the band was looking for. Immediately following practice the guys schedule him into the studio to record vocal tracks on the demo. After the demo was mixed and ready to go, they still did not have a band title. Now this day was around the time of the locusts, during their 17-year decent on the earth, and Lu said, "Why don’t we call the band Cicada". Instant hit. Now the summer of 2004 brought a few parties and shows to the band. Nothing major, just a shot to get out and get situated playing in front of a live audience. We all realized the amount of impact we were making on the people and started coming up with a way to let other people hear our music. They joined the online community www.myspace.com/distortedaudio. This was and still is a great way of getting the music out there. The only problem they seen happening was, the name cicada started becoming very popular and band after band started popping up with the same title. They started getting a fan base under the name Cicada, and changing names, this far in the game wasn’t in anyone's best interest. They all felt the name was perfect and felt passionate enough about it that we wanted to keep it. Cicada is now actually an acronym that stands for Chaotic Impulse Centered Around Distorted Audio. (C.I.C.A.D.A.) They were finally a band; the long awaited dream was becoming a reality. They wrote a few more songs and hit the studio yet again, for the complete album. During the recording process they all felt an element was missing. They recorded at studio 210 in Spring City and asked one of the engineers, who was a fantastic guitar player, if he could lay down some extra guitar tracks. When the guys realized the impact that Todd created for the sound of C.I.C.A.D.A., he was asked to join and without hesitation accepted.Few months passed by and shows were played anywhere from Allentown, Reading, Norristown, Philadelphia, New Jersey to local Pottstown. The band teamed up with other unsigned bands known as Shovelhook, Type 14, Canto 6, and Sick Boy, just to name a few. These bands and many others can be found through the myspace community. As time would have it, the band under went many forms of changes. The sound they were projecting began to become more demanding of it. A lot of time went in to a total renovation of the band, as it was being seen and heard. Mike decided to take a pastime hobby and convert it into a business. Not having the opportunity of a original underground scene, places like Seattle, or Long Island, He wanted to try what his local area demanded, cover tunes. A change like this has huge impact on the original scene. Understanding the consequences of the change, and the benefits of it as well, he pushed towards the understanding of a creative split. Meaning, the time spent wrighting music and learning music would have to be divided, creating more income for C.I.C.A.D.A. to be able to produce Cd’s, Shirts, Demos, and an affordable way to transport equipment. Well as history would have it, a shock wave did stir through the band. There was a lot of walls thrown up and resistance to accommodate such action. Through coarse of time, other factors would weigh in as well. This by no means what so ever states that C.I.C.A.D.A. has become a cover band. A lot of personal changes have happen, and t Cicada When We Wake Songs | 1. | Intro |
