“..One delectable song after another.” – David McClellan, The Fulcrum -University of Ottawa, ONAfter a whirlwind 2007 with the release of her demo-EP “Fresh Air”, Mary Kastle’s musical voice is starting to prick some ears. Following two Canadian tours and significant critical acclaim, 2008 found her receiving a FACTOR demo award to start laying the foundations for a full-length studio debut. “Another Swing” is the culmination of that effort - a 4-song EP co-produced with long-time collaborator Paul Shatto that showcases her best songwriting to date.“Another Swing” embodies Mary’s conceptual approach of bridging the divide between jazz and contemporary pop songwriting. Like chapters in a sonic novel, every song captures a different scenario through sound, colour, and lyric. The opus kicks off with the grinding reggae of Perfect all the Time, with its driving guitar riffs and lazy horn lines, which deliberates the struggles of being put down by your peers. Then the subtle groove of Secret Garden walks us into a dreamy reminiscence of two old lovers who meet randomly on the streets of New York. Down the Wire uses a schizophrenic distorted piano intro to tap into the paranoia of a 21st century fatalistic society, while Fresh Air, the final movement of the suite, gives us a soft landing with its gently prodding chorus and harmonies reminiscent of Wayne Shorter and late era Miles Davis. Since graduating with her Bachelors of Jazz Studies in Piano from Capilano College, Mary has found herself most at home on the genre-bending fringes of both the jazz and roots circuits and has been deftly building up a following around her hometown of Vancouver, BC. She’s embraced all aspects of the music business and having landed a job as Label Manager at the indie roots label Black Hen Music, has been using her knowledge to develop her own label Star.Bird.Music. in preparation for her 2009 full-length debut. The forthcoming project will be produced by Juno-Award winning avant-folk producer/guitarist Steve Dawson and released in Canada through Festival Distribution. Mary will tour extensively throughout North America and Europe in support of this recording. Another Swing album
$11.35 NIGHT CASTLE appears just in time for the big 2009 holiday season but don't be fooled: this isn't a Christmas album, even if it's sonically indistinguishable from Trans-Siberian Orchestra's other seasonal releases, and the fact that it's been dubbed "Capra-esque" certainly brings it within the ...

Another Swing songs
$13.65 Taylor Swift abandons any pretense that she's a teen on her second album, FEARLESS--which isn't to say that she suddenly tarts herself up, running away from her youth in a manner that's all too familiar to many teen stars. Swift's maturation is deliberate and careful, styled after the crossover country-pop of Shania Twain and Faith Hill before they turned into divas. Despite the success of her self-titled 2006 debut, there's nothing at all diva-like about Swift on FEARLESS: she's soft-spoken and considerate, a big sister instead of a big star. Nowhere is this truer than on "Fifteen," a kind warning for a teen to watch her heart sung from the perspective ...

Another Swing music CDs
$9.29 Amie Amis (last name pronounced Ah-mee - it's French), a young French hornist residing in New York City, performs and writes - as a matter of whimsy - in French, Portuguese, and her native English. She is a sparkling, high-energy visual delight. Amalie-esque and pert, in her finale, she surprises the room by playing her French horn into a deep backbend to the floor. Her lyrics - as with her whole musical genre - are clever and hilarious - disguising her highly complex arrangements, jazz solos, and detailed exchanges between her French horn, vocals, and six sidemen. In composition and arrangement of many pieces, Amie collaborates with Rick Thompson, a Denver, Colorado rocker, producer, and college pal. The musical subjects range from a reggae double entendre about being lost on a glacier; to rhapsodizing over an extinct caveman lover as she goes to "see 'um" in a "muse-um;" to stuck in an elevator "in between" but managing to stay, "strictly serene." Although complex, the musical style is accessible and danceable - with Amie Amis' physical style encouraging crowd interaction. She always achieves a happy room. As an independent hornist, Amie Amis recently toured with Kanye ...

Another Swing songs
$16.45 The Cosmic American Derelicts or as their fans call them (the “Derelicts”) have been playing throughout the NY/NJ/PA area for over ten years. The band consists of five individuals who revel in what they do.Ed Rainey (35), acoustic/electric/b-bender & lap steel guitars/banjo/ mandolin/dobro & vocals, has been playing since the age of 4 and combines blues with great feel to conjuer up some of the tastiest sounds around. His influences range from bluegrass/country to rock and soul.Founding member George Kapitanellis (36) handles the bass chores (Bass Fiddle/Fender Bass) and some of the writing duties. George got bit by the rock&roll bug in his early teens and has not looked back. Influenced by the blues, psychedelia, roots/Americana and rock and roll, George solidly lays down the line for his partner in crime, drummer Sotiri Karlis. Sotiri (31) (originally was the conga player in the Derelicts but moved over to the drums when original drummer, Galinos Kapitanellis, left the band 98'), has been playing since his early teens. Sotiri's passion and love of rock and roll, and boundless energy supply the Derelicts with that heart pounding beat that gets the crowd shaking. The singing, writing and rhythm guitar is being handled as of late by Scott Lauro.Scotty Lauro (27 years old), was recruited after The Derelicts lost their male/female vocal combination at the end of 2005. Scotty, a long time fan and friend of the Derelicts, came from a local New York band “Little Rusty.” Scotty brought a bunch of songs and a lot of youthful energy to this veteran group. He has just started to really sink his teeth into the ...
