| | Scott Boswell Thistle CD Scott Boswell Discography of CDs
A radical departure from traditional Celtic recordings, Thistle represents Scott Boswell's first all original CD. If your looking for traditional Celtic music this may not the CD for you, instead try Scott's first release "Jug of Punch". Bluesy meanderings on mandolin, slide guitar, flutes and whistles bring a new flavor to Celtic inspired music. With vocals on only one song (Island), Thistle is a sonic landscape painted with bold strokes. The title track and Samurai Cosmonaut take a journey into visual realms, while tracks like Mulled Wine and Mockingbird take a more progressive folk approach. Betsey K. in Knoxville Tn says "love the music! WOW!", You should check it out. Thistle album
$8.75 All tracks have been digitally mastered using HDCD technology.
BLUE marks the culmination of Mitchell's early, traditional singer/songwriter period, and it is one of the very best albums of that genre. Though she was already beginning to experiment with elements of pop and jazz, BLUE focuses on Mitchell's skill as a folk singer, showcasing her reedy, expressive voice in duet with her piano or guitar. The arrangements on the album--which feature keys, dulcimer, bass, and assorted percussion--are spare and tasteful, so much so that it is easy to overlook their sophistication.
Yet it is ultimately Mitchell's songs that make BLUE such a moving and memorable experience. "All I Want" establishes the themes of wandering and soul-searching that define much of the artist's work, while "My Old Man" and "Carey" explore relationships with a keen attention to detail and emotional truth. Songs like "California" shuffle along with a sunny yearning, but the predominant mood--true to the album's title--is lonely, plaintive and stark, with "River," the title track, and "The Last Time I Saw Richard" ranking with the saddest, most moving songs in the ...
| | Peter, Paul, and Mary Very Best Of Peter, Paul & Mary CD (2005)
Thistle CD music
$10.09 With their beautiful harmony vocals and gentle melodies, Peter, Paul & Mary were the most popular folk act of the 1960s. While Bob Dylan was unquestionably the genre's most influential and revered performer by the mid-1960s, it was Peter Yarrow, Noel Paul Stookey, and Mary Travers who helped him to reach a larger audience with their accessible '63 renditions of his "Blowin' in the Wind" and "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right." In addition to Dylan, the group also championed the work of Gordon Lightfoot and John Denver, most notably with the wanderlust tales "For Lovin' Me" and "Leaving on a Jet Plane" (a runaway hit in '69), respectively.
All of the aforementioned tunes are ...

| | Richard Thompson Rumor & Sigh CD (1991)
Thistle album
$8.85 Richard Thompson's albums with Mitchell Froom in the producer's chair tended to be stylistically varied affairs, and on RUMOR AND SIGH, the singer's distinctive English vocal inflections and biting guitar spar inspiringly with Froom's kitchen-sink approach to production. Froom found intriguing ways to cope with Thompson's own wild stylistic approach, ranging from dark, narrative acoustic ballads ("1952 Vincent Black Lightning"), through radio-friendly, country-tinged rock ("Keep Your Distance," "You Dream Too Much"), to demonic rock & rollers ("I Feel So Good," "Mother Knows Best'). SIGH also showcases Thompson's lyrical extremes, from the intense ("I Misunderstood," "Mystery Wind") to the daffy ("Don't Sit On My Jimmy Shands," "Psycho Street").
Though Richard Thompson's cult following continued to revere the
uniformly high-quality albums he released throughout the 1980s, by the
end of that decade he was finding it difficult to find the wider
audience his work with former wife Linda had once attracted. That
changed at the start of the '90s with the career-revivifying RUMOR &
SIGH. Producer Mitchell Froom had been in Thompson's corner since the mid-'80s, but it was here that his modernist approach meshed fully with Thompson's folk-rock roots in a truly serendipitous way. Such
traditional folk instruments ...
| | Leonard Cohen Live In London CDs (2009)
Thistle CD music
$17.09 After taking a decade-and-a-half vacation from live performance, septuagenarian singer/songwriter/saint Leonard Cohen returned to the stage in 2008 for a European tour. During his absence, his popularity had grown to such a degree that his London concert took place at the city's O2 Arena. With the gathered masses sounding suitably enraptured, Cohen can be heard delivering a long program that serves as both career summary and mission reiteration on this double-length live album (FYI, there's also a DVD companion release).
Amazingly, Cohen sounds even more vital and intense than the last time he strode the boards, back in the mid-'90s. For all the high-powered cover versions over the years, his cavernously deep voice remains the most effective instrument for delivering his poetic incantations, looming large over a subtle, sympathetic band. He invests '60s classics like "Suzanne" and "Bird on a Wire" with new energy, underlining their continued relevance, while establishing a place in the canon for latter-day gems like "Anthem" and "Democracy," all the while punctuating his performance with carefully placed quips that show his trademark ...

Thistle album
$27.59 Additional personnel includes: The Emotions, The Phoenix Horns.
Recorded between 1973 and 1981. Includes liner notes by Mark Coleman.
Columbia's 1998 collection of Earth, Wind & Fire's Greatest Hits in many ways stands as the group's definitive compilation. Even though there have been more extensive overviews of the group's work, such as the triple-disc set The Eternal Dance, this is the first collection to contain all of the group's biggest hits on one disc. All but one ("Love Music") of the ten songs from 1978's The Best of Earth, Wind & Fire are included, while six of the ten songs from The Best Of, Vol. 2 are featured; the remaining two cuts on the 17-track collection are the minor early single "Kalimba Story" and the album cut "Gratitude." These are fine additions to the album, but the true meat of the collection lies in the hits -- "Shining Star," "That's the Way of the World," "Sing a Song," "Getaway," "Got to Get You Into My Life," "September," "Boogie Wonderland," "After the Love Has Gone," ...
