Dramatic, potent, and aggressive are all signature components of the Shai Hulud sound, and the band's Metal Blade Records debut, MISANTHROPY PURE, is no exception. Shai Hulud employs vigorous neo-thrash techniques accentuated with poignant, scarring vocals. The album is a stringent, fist-flinging wake-up call, metal-core with a message, severely illustrating all the ills that mankind continues to enact upon the earth.

| Misanthropy Pure Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) Short, crazy and just what the doctor ordered. I was so happy to hear that Shai Hulud were releasing a new album.
Though i do not feel like this is their best album it remains a great listening experience and a Shai Hulud album non the less.
Out of this world guitar and drum work make it one of Shai Hulud' heaviest albums to date.
A must buy for a Shai Hulud fan and for anyone getting bored of emo.

The Best Band You've Never Heard Of Before the tight jeans, before the feathered WMO hair, before full body head bangs at the "breakdown", before what 'metalcore' is today, there was Shai Hulud.
Boys and girls in a mad rush for scene points, study your hardcore history.
Shai Hulud was playing metal influenced hardcore before all of these metalcore knock-offs were in middle school.
Shai Hulud is the band that the term 'metalcore' was made for. There are so many bands that rip off Shai Hulud today, it could almost make an aging hardcore guy like myself shed a tear.
In every track of Misanthropy Pure, Shai Hulud. shows why they are the most under-rated hardcore band today.
Hulud has had some lineup changes that gave them a new guitarist, drummer, and singer. Andrew from Rorshach is a perfect fit for Shai Hulud (it's like a hardcore dream team) and Matt does an adequate job on vocals.
Matt's vocals shine on the tracks that are not re-releases. In my opinion, it is hard to do any better than what Geert did on Set Your Body Ablaze and what Eric did on To Bear The Brunt...
But with that said, Matt's voice is certainly good on tracks like We Who Finish Last and Misanthropy Pure.
As for the instrumentation, this is the most commercial and most experimental that Shai Hulud has ever been, if that makes sense. You can certainly hear the impressive production, but this is the darkest set of songs Shai Hulud has ever written.
Matt Fox is certainly one of the most original and impressive guitarist in hardcore music today, and all throughout this album he displays the winding lead over chord styling that has made Shai Hulud so loved by fans.
The riffs on Pure certainly are a notch above That Within...I would even say a tad darker.
If you do not have this album yet, get this. Shai Hulud will be looked back upon as one of the most under rated hardcore bands of all time.
If you are a Hulud fan, you will be very pleased with Ms. Pure (you will have to just deal with the fact that Geert and Chad are no longer in the band).
If you by chance do not know who Shai Hulud is, I suggest you study some hardcore history.
Every 'metalcore' band you listen to today ripped off of Shai Hulud.
