| | U2 No Line On The Horizon CD (2009)
Jackson Road songs
$10.49 There's no shortage of legendary producers in line to work with music world titans U2; when work with Rick Rubin broke off, Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois stepped in. The resulting NO LINE ON THE HORIZON, 2009's offering from the Irish rockers, continues in the grand U2 tradition, as soaring pop anthems like opening single "Get on Your Boots" pair with experimental melanges like "Tripoli," on a striking album featuring touches of all the albums come before, yet hinting at new worlds for Bono to conquer.
After spending the 1990s experimenting with electronic music and returning to arena-ready rock during the first few years of the 21st century, U2 stakes out territory somewhere between those two points on 2009's NO LINE ON THE HORIZON. Enlisting its go-to production trio of Brian Eno, Daniel Lanois, and Steve Lillywhite, the Irish quartet seems intent on crafting a quirkier companion piece to HOW TO DISMANTLE AN ATOMIC BOMB, and they succeed with restless tracks such as "Get on Your Boots," which sounds like "Vertigo" hijacked by T. Rex, and "Stand Up Comedy," a wiry number that lets the Edge cut loose with barbed guitar lines. Some of most striking songs on HORIZON are the ones that venture farthest from U2's comfort zone, as on the surprisingly weighty title track, a tune that counterbalances its nearly industrial ...

| | John Denver Rocky Mountain Christmas CD (1975)
Jackson Road CD music
$6.09 This 1998 reissue contains 5 bonus tracks (including the previously
unreleased "White Christmas") not included on the original release.
John Denver's music always had a warm, home-spun quality to it, so it isn't surprising that his 1975 holiday effort, Rocky Mountain Christmas, is a wonderfully low-key and friendly Christmas album. Divided between classic carols and new numbers, such as the fine "Aspenglow" and "Christmas for Cowboys," the album is an appealing, pretty record, perfect for late nights by the fireside. The 1998 CD reissue adds five bonus tracks: "Jingle Bells," "White Christmas," "The Music is You," "Perhaps Love," and "Dreamland Express." ~ Rodney Batdorf

| | Hot Water Music Fuel For The Hate Game CD (1998)
Jackson Road music CDs
$14.75 The second, and arguably best release from Gainsville's Hot Water Music, is this driving LP that opens with five of the best tracks the band has ever recorded. Swinging, complicated basslines and the throaty vocal screams of singers Chuck Ragan and Chris Wollard punctuate pummeling tracks like the opening "220 Years" and the fantastic "Trademark." The crunching dual guitars never let up, and the drumming is strikingly hard and original, only adding to the overall power of the record. Fuel for the Hate Game is raw and unrelenting, but it is also a refreshing release of energy, and an infectious one at that. This is the record that saw the band rise to the top of the hardcore/punk scene, and, years after its release, it is still ...

| | Mike Williams My Little Radio CD (2008)
Jackson Road album
$10.25 The track “My Little Radio” is where it all began. I started listening to music on my 6 transistor when I was 9 years old. Like most kids my age, I listened to such pop radio artists as The Beatles, Beach Boys, Buddy Holly, and Carl Perkins. I was also heavily influenced by country artists including George Jones, Roger Miller, Johnny Cash and Buck Owens. I’ve been writing songs for 20 years. My writing style is simple and it relates to events that happen in everyday life.My buddies and I go on frequent motorcycle road trips. One day last summer we broke down in a town called Farley, Iowa. It’s not everyday that you break down in a town with a name that rhymes with Harley. I decided then, that it was a perfect opportunity for the song, “When You Break Down On Your Harley, It’s Good To Be In Farley”.In 2006, both of my daughters got married. I wrote a song for each of them on their wedding days. Dancing with my daughter to the recording ...
