| | Manu Chao Politik Kills CD Manu Chao Discography of CDs
This six-track EP collects various mixes of Manu Chao's song "Politik Kills," a bouncy, reggae-inflected tune with a serious message. True to his eclectic, trans-genre approach, Manu Chao allows a handful of producers to interpret his song as bracing electronica (the David B. remix), hardcore dancehall (the Rude Barriobeat remix), classic dub (the Dennis Bovell remix featuring Linton Kwesi Johnson), and an instrumental (the Prince Fatty remix). A fun electyronic sampler of an artist whose original tracks often sound like remixes themselves, the POLITIK KILLS EP comes recommended to fans. Manu Chao Politik Kills Songs Politik Kills Review

If the Spanish Harlem Orchestra are, as the promo copy suggests, "Harlem's answer to Cuba's Buena Vista Social Club," then Un Gran Dia en el Barrio is the soundtrack to a sweaty summer party in the city. One can almost hear the music and beats reverberating ...
| | Rhythms Del Mundo: Cuba CD (2006)
Politik Kills songs
$15.65 Turning the covers album concept on its head, Rhythms del Mundo: Cuba doesn't set a varied group of northern artists loose on the music made famous by the Buena Vista Social Club, but instead sets the Club's members lose on the northerners' own songs. Now that's an inspired idea, and all to aid charities assisting the victims of natural disasters and raising awareness of climate change. However, to call this a covers album is a bit misleading, as most of the songs feature the original vocals, and occasionally some of the original instrumentation, but it's not a remix project either, as the Social Club add their own music to the original recordings. So, it's a grand fusion of Cuban and northern sounds. And eclectic to boot, with songs contributed by such international artists as Quincy Jones, Sting ...

Politik Kills CD music
$10.45 With his 2007 debut, singer-songwriter Ryan Bingham joins legions of young country artists in affecting an outlaw persona. But with Bingham there's a difference: he actually seems authentic. Although a tender 25 at the time he released MECSALITO, Bingham had been living on the road since his mid-teens, working the rodeo, and gathering hard luck stories. That experience is reflected in Bingham's surprisingly intimate, powerful songs; his textured, ...
| | Jim Noir Tower Of Love CD (2006) (Import) England
Politik Kills music CDs
$20.39 On his debut album, Tower of Love, Jim Noir proves himself to be a first-class mix-and-match master, blending the cheesy drum machines and bubbling synths of indie electronic, the lo-fi guitars and adult-child vocals of indie pop, and the full-bodied and harmony-drenched arrangements of chamber pop into a swirling, soothing, and truly lovely Technicolor pop confection. Noir also proves himself to be an able student of great outsider pop of the '60s, '70s, and 2000s. There are echoes of British eccentrics like XTC, Kevin Ayers, and ELO to be found in the grooves of Tower. There is the pronounced influence of those renowned American nutters, the mid-'70s edition of the Beach Boys and their Love You album. There are comparisons to be made to the anything-goes spirit and sound of contemporary explorers like Super Furry Animals and the Beta Band. Best of all, if you happen to have never heard of any of those bands and just love a good melody played and sung sweetly by a likeable singer, you will love the record just as much as someone who can train-spot all the influences. There really isn't a weak song to be had, and the album flows past like a gentle stream winding its way through a summer meadow. Noir's crack hand at arranging provides many moments of pleasure: the lovely stacked vocal harmonies on the thrillingly peaceful "How to Be So Real," the smooth and EZ keys that decorate "Tower of Love," the loose-limbed and nearly funky bassline of "Key of C," and the twangy guitars that crop up unexpectedly in the absurdly peppy "A Quiet Man" are the work of someone with a firm grip on what it takes to make song burst into life. His songwriting is equal to his arranging skills, as catchy and richly constructed tunes like "Turbulent Weather," "I Me You I'm Yours," and "Turn Your Frown into a Smile" would make fellow Brits like Ray Davies or Rod Argent proud. The lyrics are light and breezy throughout, not liable to give Davies any pause but still quite likable, especially the songs about stealing footballs ("Eanie Meany") or the lighthearted threats. They help to bolster the childlike sense of wonder that the album is ...

| | Krump Academy/Saint City Vol. 3-Krumpen Battle Off Music CD (2008)
Politik Kills music CDs
$11.39 Our music is produced for Krumpen and Clown dancing which kicks the Hip Hop tradition of dance. Krumpen and Clownen is a interative dance style with one person or groups sometimes having physical contact and weight sharing. Film director David LaChapelle put out a documentary on Krumpen and Clownen and showed crowds and viewers surrounding a smaller group of dancers. All the dancers are moving, bobbing, and nodding to the music, but only one dancer at a time is dancing with a raw physicality and there arms and torso are pumping to the emphatic rhythm of the Krump music and each stares boldly out at the audience around him or her. The dancers are syncopated with rapid fire freestyle flicks of the body movement and pantomine and yet a dancer never loses the beat and rhythm of the dance style that each person holds inside themself. If movement could be put into words this would be the high energy side of the body and is truly nothing more than poetry in motion. As the energy rises from the beats of the music the dancers explode into adrenaline rush and the crowds go wild with support for the dancer or dancers. Krumpen and Clownen came from the South Central streets of Los Angeles and has changed the dance industry and more so it is used to pull our youth and adults away from drugs and gangs by showing the youth to dance away the negative things and pressures in thier world. This new dance style is growing by the week and month and Krumpen and Clownen is where its at today and this is why we have produced the music for all ...

| | Mother Truckers Let's All Go To Bed CD (2008)
Politik Kills album
$11.69 Though the band name and title might lead you to think it's a porn rock album or some such thing, the Mother Truckers' Let's All Go to Bed is the kind of good-time roots rock that many listeners associate with the music scene of the group's Austin, TX base. There's a lot of country in their sound, as well as some folk and raunchy bar band rock, more often than not executed with a grinning, upbeat delivery. The female-male harmonies of Teal Collins and Josh Zee do much to distinguish them from the many other bands, from Austin and elsewhere, in roughly the same boat. For the most part, however, it's rather typical fare for the genre, though that's hardly a bad thing. It's admirably varied and eclectic, from honky-tonkish stompers (though these fall short of being so vicious as to be cowpunk) and the "Honky Tonk Women"-styled "Streets of Atlanta" to fairly tuneful, delicate ballads that give Collins the spotlight. ~ Richie Unterberger
âIt could be day it could be night, it just depends on when the feelings rightâŠto light my dynamiteâ sings Teal and Josh on the lead track of The Mother Truckers provocatively titled CD, Letâs All Go To Bed. And like Dynamite, this CD (their third) explodes and leaves a lasting impact. From the must-sing-along chorus of Letâs All Go To Bed, to Tealâs sexy, soulful vocals on Billy Joe Shaverâs When I Get My Wings, this album is a huge step forward for The Mother Truckers. Mixed by the legendary Paul Kolderie (Radiohead, Hole, Dinosaur Jr.), Letâs All Go To Bed is the perfect blend of rock n roll, soul, and honky-tonk, with a little pinch of sugar thrown in.Josh Zee and Teal Collins, who make up the core of The Mother Truckers, met at an open mike years ago and the meeting was, shall we say, musically explosive. Both had already established roots in the music business, and were looking for a new direction. Josh had recorded two albums and toured the world with Sony recording artist, Protein. Teal, whose early introduction to music was through her dad (famous Jazz disc jockey Al, \"Jazzbeaux\" Collins), had worked as a session singer and received Gold and Platinum albums for her work on Shanice (Motown records) and Third Eye Blind\'s album Blue.In 2002, they focused their energies on what would become The Mother Truckers. The band began touring extensively and recorded their first album, Something Worth Dying For. After a few years of gigging up and down the west coast, Josh and Teal made the move to Austin, Texas, where they became known for their GramParsons/Emmylou Harris style vocal harmonies, backed by some serious guitar playing. The âLive Music Capital of the Worldâ made The Mother Truckers feel right at home. They scored a residency at The Continental Club, one of Austinâs most notorious live venues, and just as soon caught the attention of Ray Benson (Asleep at the Wheel). Impressed by their rich vocals, story-telling lyrics, and outstanding musicianship, Benson offered to make an album with The Mother Truckers. The result was 2007âs award winning Broke, Not Broken. Austin American Statesmanâs Michael Corcoran placed the album on his Top 10 list, and The Austin Chronicle declared them âBest Roots Rock Group of 2006â ...
| | Gregor Samsa Rest CD (2007)
Politik Kills CD music
$10.49 Gregor Samsa has released enough albums at this point to know that nothing helps stand out from a crowd than defying expectations at least a bit. So while Rest on the face of it, especially given the art work involved, seems like it would be restrained, somewhat gloom-tinged, epic post-rock filtered through the lens of groups like Mogwai and Godspeed You Black Emperor! -- and there's definitely an element of that -- it works against those expectations as much as confirms them. In part this is due to the vocals, so a song like "Ain Leuh," while it could almost be an outtake from Rock Action thanks to the violins and soft keyboards and the like, has an almost sweetly thoughtful feeling, a little bit of calm indie rock amid an equally calm but somewhat different sonic background. But the greater sense of difference between the more explosive side of the sound is in that very lack of explosiveness -- ...
