Flash
$10.05 In fact, the whole night seems designed by the infamously raw producer David Briggs: tracks are brisk, mistakes are kept, the sound is rough, and every song sounds like a first take. And what a string of first takes: "So Begins the Task"--later released on MANASSAS--anticipates the finger-picked bleakness of DEJA VU's "4 & 20"; "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes" finds particular starkness as a solo song despite the jubilant open chords; and "The Doctor Will See You Now" holds its own against anything in Young's catalog. While his songwriting and guitar playing are stellar, Stills's voice is equally stunning, with its tender, affecting rasp making an AM weeper like "Helplessly Hoping" sound tough. A rough gem of a listen, but a must-have for any fans of Stills or of Crosby, Stills & Nash.
Over the years since Neil Young's godlike status has grown, it is easy to forget about the jaw-dropping breadth of talent that was Crosby, Stills & Nash, his sometimes former bandmates. Crosby had the silken voice and Nash the impossibly high harmony, but, as the remarkable official bootleg JUST ROLL TAPE: April 26th 1968 proves, Stephen Stills was a complete talent as a singer, writer, and guitarist. Reportedly recorded in one long take after he bribed the engineer of a Judy Collins session on the title date to continue recording long into the night, JUST ROLL TAPE is what ...
| | Average White Band Feel No Fret / Volume 8 / Shine / Cupids In Fashio CD (2009)
Flash
$16.09 Digitally remastered two CD release containing three and one half albums from the above-average Scottish Funk band spread across this double disc set. Recorded in Nassau in 1979, Feel No Fret was an instant hit on both sides of the Atlantic. The band had started recording the follow-up album with producer David Foster when they decided to switch record labels. Atlantic Records wouldn't let AWB take the tracks with them, and in 1980 issued four tracks as Volume VIII (with five greatest hits on side 2). We have added bonus track "Miss Sun" from the same sessions. AWB started afresh with Foster to create the standout album Shine (1980). For the last album by the original line-up, the band enlisted Dan Hartman as producer ("Instant Replay", "Relight ...
| | Rolling Stones Love You Live CDs (1977) Reissue; Remastered
Flash
$14.39 Recorded live in Paris, France and Toronto, Canada in 1976-1977.
By the time the Rolling Stones got around to issuing the third live album of their career, 1977's LOVE YOU LIVE, the legendary band had reinvented itself from a dangerous and sleazy rock & roll group to a more polished arena rock outfit. That said, the group was going through one of the rockiest and most uncertain periods of its lengthy career; Keith Richards had just been busted for heroin possession in Canada with the threat of a long prison sentence hanging over his head, new member Ron Wood was still finding his niche in the band, and Mick Jagger appeared more concerned with jet-setting.
So it's a pretty impressive accomplishment that the Stones could present such a fun and spirited performance as the one featured on LOVE YOU LIVE (taped at a rare club appearance at Toronto's famed El Macombo). Though not exactly in league with one of rock's all-time great live sets, 1969's GET YER YA YA'S OUT, LOVE YOU LIVE contains many highlights, such as the funky "Hot Stuff," the Richards-sung "Happy," several blues covers that kick off disc two ("Mannish Boy," Chuck Berry's "Around and Around," etc.) and an awesome, album-closing triple punch of "Brown Sugar," "Jumpin' Jack Flash," and "Sympathy for the Devil."
All tracks digitally remastered.
Engineers: Eddie Kramer, Keith Harwood, Ron Nevison.
Personnel: Mick Jagger (vocals, guitar, harmonica); Keith Richards, Ron Wood (vocals, guitar); Billy Preston (vocals, keyboards); Charlie Watts (drums); Ollie Brown (percussion).

| | Slayer World Painted Blood CD (2009)
Flash
$9.55 Of the "big four" original thrash bands (the other three being Metallica, Anthrax, and Megadeth), Slayer was the least compromising and most consistent. As such, 2009's WORLD PAINTED BLOOD recalled more than the title of Slayer's 1986 masterpiece REIGN IN BLOOD; it shared the earlier album's ferocious aggression and trademark speed metal-meets-hardcore sound. Throughout, the sound is lean and mean, with bassist/vocalist Tom Araya's vocals mixed relatively dry and upfront, giving the album a bracing, fist-to-the-face force. Jackhammer tracks such as "Hate Worldwide" and "Psychopathy Red" are short, no muss-no fuss blasts of double kick drum, minor key-riffing fury, with an unrelenting intensity that requires little in the way of sonic or textural variation. The title track, on ...

| | Michael Jackson Thriller CD (1982) Bonus Tracks; Remastered; Special Edition

$3.99 The finest example of perfect disco pop, and a record that should be prescribed to musical snobs and manic depressives. The album is a true ambassador of what pop music can be. Jackson whoops and dances through a suite of unforgettable melodies that should be danced to with a smile on your face. Each track offers at least one musical hook, whether it is the beauty of 'Human Nature' (who can resist the 'dada dada da da da') or the 'whoo whoo' of 'Billie Jean'. It's all too good.
Principally recorded at Westlake Audio, Los Angeles, California.

| | Ulf Lundell Den Vassa Eggen CD (1985)
Flash
$51.25 Den Vassa Eggen is generally considered one of Lundell's best albums, and also one of his most open and painful ones. The album does contain his usual mix of celebration of life, sentimental memories, and extremely personal stories of failed love and old friends. But this time the sad side is dominant, often interpreted as an effect of Lundell's recent divorce, expressed through sentimental piano ballads, as well as angry rock numbers. The album contains two of Lundell's best ballads ever -- "Kyssar Och Smek" and "Inte Ett Ont Ord" -- but the heavier tracks have had more problems with the shifts of fashion. During the '70s and '90s, Lundell stuck mostly to a classic rock setting and rougher sound, but on his albums from the '80s, a more synthetic sound can be heard. ...

| | Tim McDonald May I Live In Your World CD (2008)
Flash
$10.15 At the young age of five, Tim McDonald embarked on a musical journey that throughout time has granted him countless opportunities to recognize and perfect his talents within. After starting formal piano lessons his natural music abilities were quickly recognized. By age nine, he was a member of the distinguished Classical Guild Society. He continued classical training throughout his teen years. Tim attended college at Montreat Anderson on a soccer scholarship where he studied music theory and taught himself other genres of music such as Jazz, Blues, Funk and Alternative. Subsequently, Tim left college and enlisted in the US Army where he joined the Army Band following a successful piano audition. Graduating with honors, Tim attended the Armed Forces School of Music and was tagged with a special skill identifier that afforded him the opportunity to join a special band. During his tenure in the US Army, Tim continued to focus on his music. At each place he was stationed, he took complete advantage of every learning occasion. Tim continued to study music and seek out mentors. He played music and learned from great musicians such as Dave Mancini, Byron Berline, and Frank Mantooth. Later, Tim was assigned to teach piano at the Armed Forces School of Music in Virginia. He performed with many bands as well as with the Virginia Symphony. He formed a Jazz Trio and recorded two independent Jazz albums where he wrote and arranged much of the music. After ten years of honorable service, reaching a status of Staff Sergeant, Tim left the US Army. He moved to Nashville, TN to further his music career. He performed with local bands, played as a session artist, and commenced a focused effort on writing. For three years, Tim played piano for Country Music Legend, Mark Chesnutt. Additionally, he recorded with and/or performed with artists such as Cory Morrow, Blake Shelton, Josh Gracin, Steve Holy, and Trent Tomlinson. While Tim still enjoys performing his Jazz music and has a new Jazz album in the works, he is making a concentrated effort as a Country Music solo artist. He recently completed recording a full length album, “Lucky You”, and a six track EP, “…May I Live In Your World”. He arranged and produced all of the songs. The music is like none other and is a total reflection of the talent and passion ...
