Purchase Live CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Janis Joplin 18 Essential Songs CD (1995)
Live
$8.89 Recorded between 1965 and 1970. Includes liner notes by Mary Katherine Aldin.
Digitally remastered by Vic Anesini (Sony Music Studios, New York).
All tracks on 18 ESSENTIAL SONGS are taken from the three-disc box set JANIS.
Drawing inspiration from Bessie Smith and Odetta, Joplin developed a brash, uncompromising vocal style quite unlike accustomed folk madonnas. In 1966 Janis was invited to the Bay Area to front Big Brother And The Holding Company. Their Cheap Thrills, a joyous celebration of true psychedelic soul, contained two Joplin 'standards', 'Piece Of My Heart' and 'Ball And Chain', but she left the group in November 1968. Electric Flag members Mike Bloomfield, Harvey Brooks and Nick Gravenites helped assemble a new act, known as the Kozmic Blues Band. I Got Dem Ol' Kozmic Blues Again Mama was coolly received, but the set contained several excellent Joplin vocals, notably 'Try', 'Maybe' and 'Little Girl Blue'. The singer subsequently ...
| | Best Of The Moody Blues CD (1997)
Live
$10.45 THE BEST OF THE MOODY BLUES contains vintage photographs and a conversation with Justin Hayward.
Recorded between 1964 and 1988. Includes liner notes by John Reed.
By keeping it simple and sticking to the hits, this collection successfully relates the story of this pioneering band. The Moody Blues began as a Gerry & the Pacemakers-like, R&B-influenced band fronted by sad-voiced singer Denny Laine, who is heard here on "Go Now." Laine was replaced by Justin Hayward, keyboardist Mike Pinder brought in a Mellotron, and the band hooked up with the London Symphony Orchestra to make the first orchestral-rock album DAYS OF FUTURE PASSED, from which "Tuesday Afternoon" and "Nights ...
| | Very Best Of Deep Purple CD (2000)
Live
$7.79 Digitally remastered by Dan Hersch and Bill Inglot (DigiPrep).
Rhino Records first attracted notice for its ability to assemble good, well-thought-out, best-of and greatest-hits compilations of acts who had enjoyed a chart placement (or two) without ever getting a proper hits package from their own labels; a little later Rhino started their "Very Best Of" series, which managed to be medium-weight but pretty thorough overviews of a lot of major acts (especially in R&B) from the past that needed a fresh look. But in 2000, when they released The Very Best of Deep Purple -- a band that needed no helping hand in the exposure area -- in conjunction with Warner Archives, that was something new for the company. And damned if Deep Purple and their fans, casual or serious, didn't benefit stunningly from Rhino's usual excellence on this CD. For one thing -- and this is pretty amazing -- this disc, with nearly 80-minutes of music, was the most thorough and thoughtful overview of the band's work ever released in the United States; EMI may have come close in England with Singles A's & B's but the sound here is better, to put it mildly. It's not just that Bill Inglot's tape research and engineering are very good -- it's that the sound here is so rich and resonant (as well as -- ...
| | Tim Mcgraw Set This Circus Down CD (2001)
Live
$5.85 SET THIS CIRCUS DOWN was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Country Album. "Grown Men Don't Cry" was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Male Country Vocal Performance.
Don't hate Tim McGraw because he's married to one of the most glamorous women in contemporary country music (Faith Hill). Don't hate him because he wears a ten-gallon hat and sings about "The Cowboy In Me" while utilizing more image consultants than a Vogue fashion shoot. Hate him because he's so damn good at what he does. Whether you're an old-school country traditionalist or a card-carrying McGraw disciple, you can't deny the seamless production, hook-filled songcraft, and flawless vocal ...
| | 20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection: The Best Of The Troggs CD (2004) Remastered
Live
$6.79 20th Century Masters -- The Millennium Collection: The Best of the Troggs is almost identical to the 1994 collection The Best of the Troggs released on Chronicles. This disc cuts two songs (the grungy "Gonna Make You" and the chugging "Surprise Surprise [I Need You]") ...
| | Vanilla Fudge Then And Now CD (2004)
Live
$13.49 The title of the album is Then and Now, and a sticker on the front of the CD's jewel box proclaims, "The greatest hits! The best collection ever! Includes 3 new songs!" The clear implication to the potential buyer is that this Vanilla Fudge album contains the original 1960s recordings of such hits as "You Keep Me Hangin' On," along with three recently recorded tracks. But that is not the case. Then and Now is an entirely newly recorded album on which the 2004 edition of Vanilla Fudge -- bassist Tim Bogert, guitarist Vince Martell, drummer Carmine Appice, and organist Bill Pascali (replacing original member Mark Stein) -- recreates its versions of songs that appeared on its Atco Records albums and singles of the '60s. (On one track, "Need Love," Martell is replaced by Teddy Rondinelli, as the San Fernando ...

| | Simon Kinny-Lewis Higher Heaven CD (2008)
Live
$16.45 Higher Heaven came about from some of the songs left off " a winding bend " that I had written in Bali. The rest I wrote on piano although the instrumentation on the album is mainly guitar, bass, drums. I invited drummer and life long friend Gerard Pigram from the original "Open up the letter " album to play. My manager suggested that we record that particular song again as for this time we had a better budget to record and the original " Open up the letter " was recorded in a house in Coogee. Bass player and friend Rob Ewan played on " Souls of the streets " and " Tied down ", two of my favourite tracks. The rest I played bass on only because compositional I new where I wanted to take it. Scott Aplin playing keyboard on the last track and always plays great. I had been doing a few gigs with him prior to recording and fell in love with his sound and passion at gigs. He's a pleasure to play with, great feel, melodic and with chops to burn. The album itself was recorded in two locations, Big Buda studio's in Surry hills and my own home studio. The rhythm sections were recorded by ...
| | Sheena Who's To Blame CD (2008)
Live
$6.69 A born songstress, Sheena began covering songs for local venues across the San Francisco Bay Area at the tender age of 12 years old. By 17 she had already completed her first self-written, self-produced unreleased album. In January 2003, Sheena performed one of her original songs at a music convention in Los Angeles, CA, where she was picked up by a small Production Company. Sheena and her supportive mother were promised big things through the connections this company provided, and were lured to invest a lot of time and money on the production of a promotional demo featuring three co-written songs, and three music videos to help showcase her to Record Labels and Investors. When promises fell short, and the contract ended, Sheena decided to take her losses and move on to another avenue."There are so many financial predators in this industry," Sheena says, "All I could do at that point was learn from it and move forward." Upon the expiration of her contract with the Production Company, Sheena had caught the eye of a music producer and manager in ...
