Big Band Sides 1930/32 album for sale Product Description

Big Band Sides 1930/32 album for sale by Louis Armstrong was released Jun 24, 2008 on the JSP label. Given his looming, mythic status in American history, it's easy to take Louis Armstrong for granted. Big Band Sides 1930/32 buy CD music As a result, there's a danger of overlooking Armstrong's music, or focusing on his more conventional output of the 1950s and `60s. In addition to his earliest sides, recorded with the Hot Fives and Sevens ensembles (which are must-owns for any true jazz fan), Armstrong laid down some excellent big band dates in the early `30s, which rank among his most vital and spirited recordings. Big Band Sides 1930/32 CD music is a 2-disc set with 42 songs.   ...See Full Description

Steve Vaclavik
Long Grass & The Tall Trees CD (2008)
CD $13.79 Buy It  Details
Big Band Sides 1930/32 songs Steve was once compared to an old comfortable sofa. It ain't much to look at, but there's just something, well, comfortable about it. The comfortable thing about Steve is the song. It's all about the song. His strength is his writing. He'll readily admit he doesn't sing or play that well, but his singing and playing kind of works for what he's doing. It's three chords and his truth. Like most creative types, he sees things a little differently than the 'normal' folks. Some of the things he sees, he can relate through song. He doesn't really write them, they come to him, and he relates them. His sound can be a bit 'country flavored' but not heavy-handed, more along the lines of Americana. As a songwriter, he's proud to have had the opportunity to perform twice in the late 90's at Nashville's famed Bluebird Cafe at their Sunday Writers' Night. His songs, 'Wet Dog (Someone To Care)' and 'I've Lost All Faith' were named Tastes of the Day by eartaste in 2007. Both songs were on CD samplers released by that website. "Tampa resident Steve Vaclavik is a troubadour in the tradition of Bob Dylan and Townes Van Zandt. His songs are full of the truth as seen by ordinary people. These people often tend to be life's underdogs, and Steve has the special gift to capture their perspectives on the world with genuine understanding. His words, full of humor and insight, are the essence of his music, but his Dylan-esque vocals and spare guitar playing provide a fitting framework that rings true and clear." (From Pro Star Recording press release for their Pro Star Sound Stage Celebrate the Songwriter Series - December 2007. ) "!the Tampa musician strums a simple tune onstage. But listen to his vocals, and the lyrical strength of his tunes becomes evident!. With an ear for eloquence and an eye for detail, Vaclavik crafts his songs around the emotions of everyday life. Songs like 'Bus Window,' 'Swinging Gate,' and 'Little Rabbit,' exemplify the personal and poignant nature of his work." (From Michael Dunn, The Tampa Tribune - 1996.)

Unbreakable Strings CD (2008)
CD $17.65 Buy It  Details
Big Band Sides 1930/32 CD music STICKS AND STONES uses neither vocals nor bass to drive their point home. They are two guitarists who enjoy polyphony and finger gymnastics and a drummer with serious chops and a huge kick drum. Their name has the obvious association with the schoolyard retort, and the primal image evoked by the tools of antiquity is reflective of the music of this powerful, stripped-down trio. Sticks and Stones combines accessible riffs with ripping twin guitar lines, solid grooves with slamming drums. The result is music that is interesting, visceral, innovative, and shamelessly fun. Their ten-song debut album, Unbreakable Strings, contains traces of influences such as Jeff Beck, Van Halen, Steve Morse, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, and Joe Satriani. Guitarist Gretchen Menn, fresh out of Smith College's music department, made a move from the discipline of classical guitar to the swagger of rock as she donned a schoolboy uniform to step up as "Agnes Young" in AC/DSHE, which became the top-grossing Bay Area band during her three-year stint. She now also plays in ZEPPARELLA, the San Francisco Led Zeppelin powerhouse. Her classical background and expansive musical influences make for signature compositions and an original approach to rock music. Imported from France, guitarist Mickael Tremel brings with him huge riffs, soaring melodies, and the strut of pure rock. In France, he had played in DELIGHT SEASON, and he made his way to the US in 2001, recording his solo record, My Castle, My Flag, in 2005. Gretchen and Mickael met and started jamming in San Francisco in January of 2006. Having come from widely different musical backgrounds, they started exchanging knowledge-a trade of music theory for shred technique. Hours and weeks of geeking out later, they recognized that the inception phase of a band was already underway. Drummer Sam Adato expressed interest in the project, and Sticks and Stones was born. Sam's unmistakable attack, energy, and musicality has led him to become a veritable legend in the Bay Area music scene, having been the power behind numerous projects such as WREKKING MACHINE, THUNDERPUNCH, and currently THE BRIDGE. A well-tuned machine of pure rock bliss, Sticks and Stones has shared stages with the likes of JOHNNY WINTER, BLUE OYSTER CULT, THE DONNAS, FLOATER, and THE ANSWER. They clearly love every moment of the music they inhabit and deliver. They take no prisoners and leave no face unmelted.

Big Band Sides 1930/32 buy CD music Return of the Ankh was supposed to be issued earlier than March 2010. It's just as well: 2008's stupefying 4th World War provided such a dense concentration of charged lyrics over ceaselessly vein-melting production work that Erykah Badu could have been forgiven for letting five years pass prior to unveiling something else to soak up. Return of the Ankh is a relief in that Badu does not attempt to trump herself with a set that is even more intense and powerful than its predecessor. Thematically, it's aligned with 4th World War's relatively lighter songs, "Me" and "Honey," more personal than planetary, less challenging sonically and lyrically. Most of it was actually recorded at the same time as 4th World War. The list of collaborators, featuring Georgia Anne Muldrow, Madlib, Shafiq Husayn, Dilla, James Poyser, Ahmir Thompson, and Karriem Riggins, is similar, yet the makeup is drastically different, designed for instant kicked-back enjoyment. A pause, deep breath, and a "Here we go" is not required prior to putting it on. Instead, we get Badu playing around, in the best possible way, with sample-rooted songs like "Turn Me Away (Get Munny)" (a twist on Sylvia Striplin's "You Can't Turn Me Away" and the 1995 hip-hop anthem that sampled it, Junior M.A.F.I.A.'s "Get Money"), "Gone Baby, Don't Be Long" (a slightly silly new-love song that reworks Paul McCartney's "Arrow Through Me"), and "Umm Hmm" (its optimism reflected in that of its backbone, Ndugu & the Chocolate Jam Company's Earth, Wind & Fire-like "Take Some Time"). Though the album is so rich with sample-reliant songs that it sometimes resembles a glorified mixtape, a couple standouts were made from scratch. "Window Seat" should appeal to those who have wanted Badu to revisit that lissome sound of Baduizm songs like "On & On" and "Otherside of the Game," and it packs stunning stomp-and-clap breakdowns that sync up with Badu's most halting lines: "I need you to want me/I need you to miss me/I need your attention/I need you next to me." "Out My Mind, Just in Time" is a ten-minute finale that traces a trajectory of heartache across three movements, beginning innocently enough with a devotional (if pained and humorous) piano ballad that shifts into Muldrow's psychedelic, slow-motion soul-jazz as Badu gets increasingly fragmentary and tripped-out. By the end, she is renewed: "Finally I got a leading role/Introducing Super Dope/Starring in her episode/Hello new world/Out my mind." Actual next level, as always. ~ Andy Kellman

Lord of the Fries CD (1995)
CD $14.79 Buy It  Details
Big Band Sides 1930/32 album for sale The Capitol Steps recorded these live performances around the time of the 1994 presidential election, though they cover a lot of ground away from politics. Unfortunately, the sequencing isn't as strong as on many of their releases, jumping back and forth between a variety of subjects without providing much continuity. That said, some of the non-political tracks are very funny: "Euro Pest" (where two arrogant Frenchmen chase off tourists from the rather unsuccessful EuroDisney park), "You Can Suture Yourself at Home" and "You Must Have Been a Biotech Baby" (which cover the future of health care), and "Time for Killin' Barney" (an Irish jig that recommends the demise of the idiotic public TV character). But the political musical spoofs are just not as memorable as on many of the group's releases, in part because there isn't as much emphasis on mimicking their respective targets. Therefore, this CD cannot be considered one of the Capitol Steps' essential recordings. ~ Ken Dryden Elaina Newport,Bill Strauss, Bo Ayars,Howard Breitbart Recording information: Chelsea's Cabaret, Washington DC (1994). Says Don Day Don Dree Don Don CD (2009)
CD $15.85 Buy It  Details
Big Band Sides 1930/32 CD music Marcio Local is one of those guys who sounds just fine on record, but who you suspect is probably seriously killer on-stage. Says Don Day Don Dree Don Don finds him continuing to develop a fusion of samba and soul styles, and if the result will sound mainly like samba to most American ears, that doesn't make it any less fun and hooky. "Samba Sem Nenhum Problema" is perhaps the most straight-ahead samba number, a lovely and catchy track that nicely sets the tone for the rest of the album. "Preta Luxo" is funkier, with a cool and laid-back vibe and a great horn chart; "Minha Rosa" also features an excellent horn arrangement and a charmingly goofy analog synth sound near the end. Also somewhat goofy is the vocal approach on "Resgate," while "Represanto" is not really sung at all, nor really rapped -- it's sort of declaimed, and not completely successful. But "Happy Endings" is brilliant and gorgeous, and as a whole the album is a warm and joyful romp. ~ Rick Anderson Audio Mixer: Mario Caldato, Jr. Liner Note Author: Chris Dunn. Dream It Good CD (2008)
CD $17.99 Buy It  Details
Big Band Sides 1930/32 album for sale Freedom is such a loosely used word in the America's lexicon. What constitutes freedom? Unfortunately this world traps us in many ways. Physically. Emotionally. Mentally. Andrew Sorenson's debut album, "Dream It Good," allows the listener to escape from the realities that settle in our brain cavities. This album is truly liberating, and is what all pop/rock-soul-R&B hybrids should be: good, raw, fun, and funky. Sorenson mixes '60s-style rock with '70s soul in an eclectic celebration of sound. This is and extremely fun, collection of postmodern rock ditties that comes off as a pleasantly workable combination of Tin Pan Alley showmanship. Sorenson expands well on the hook-laden songcraft heard in "Jesus is the Way to Heaven." This is the type of album that might take a few listens - can be raw and simple at times - but beneath the surface is a great deal of substance. Sorenson has a knack for melody and chord progression - probably his strongest suit. Sorenson wins with his first solo effort. At every turn, "Dream It Good" finds Sorenson to be a mature, thoughtful, and gifted musician who fully grasps his place - not just in the record industry, but in life.
