| | Michael Rose Fire Fire Burning CD Michael Rose Discography of CDs
On Fire Fire Burning, reggae singers Michael Rose and Admiral Tibet go head to head and to everyone's surprise, the Admiral beats the Black Uhuru vocalist hands down. Course with all the great material being thrown the Admiral's way, it was over before it began. Rose is left with the lesser songs and Bunny Gemini's production which never finds a way to blend the rootsy singer and the ragga backing tracks properly. With a more polished sound, Rose's "Bun Dem Up" could be worthy of Uhuru but it's "Non Nuh Deh Deh" that really satisfies, being far superior to everything else on his side. Gemini's production is much better suited to dancehall don Tibet, who rides the uptempo synthetic rhythms with ease. The infectious "Halla Me Halla" is the best of the lot with "Flirty Flirty" being a close second, while "Is It Because" nails the slower digital roots groove and beats Rose on his own turf. Rose completists might need this for their check list but it's the Tibet fans who will most benefit from this lopsided sound clash. ~ David Jeffries Michael Rose Fire Fire Burning Songs | 1. | Don't Mess With Gangster |

Fire Fire Burning album
$9.89 The 2003 Deluxe Edition of THE HARDER THEY COME includes a bonus CD of early reggae tracks recorded between 1968 & 1972, rare photos and original artwork.
Originally released on Mango SMSAS (7400). Includes liner notes by David Katz.
The soundtrack to the groundbreaking film about Jamaican subcultures, this superb selection is also a synthesis of late 60s and early 70s reggae. Recordings by Jimmy Cliff, the movie's star, form the album's core and his contributions, notably 'Many Rivers To Cross', show his understated power to great effect. An important figure in the development of reggae, Cliff at last secured deserved acclaim with this collection. His work is ably supported by 'Pressure Drop', one of the finest songs the Maytals ever recorded, while the Melodians and Slickers prove equally strong. ...
| | Buju Banton Til Shiloh... CD (1995) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Fire Fire Burning CD music
$10.45 It was not pure ego that led Buju Banton to title his 1993 album VOICE OF JAMAICA; his unique voice is a gruff, melodic instrument, and his lyrics are precise. He built his career on controversial hits and slacker anthems, but has since helped spearhead a movement to swing reggae's pendulum away from sex and violence, back towards conscious lyrics and Rastafarian themes. On `TIL SHILOH, the voice of Jamaica has visibly evolved.
Still, don't let all this consciousness talk scare you; Buju's strength is his ability to create hooks that buoy the weight of his words. The choruses of singles like "Murderer," "I Wanna Be Loved" and "Champion" drill themselves into your head and nest there for days. 'TIL SHILOH is also one of the most experimental dancehall releases ever, utilizing an a capella intro, a track built out of African chanting and percussion ("'Til I'm Laid To Rest"), and a song featuring an acoustic guitar ("Untold Stories"). A duet with the late Garnett Silk ("Complaint") provides a nice respite from Banton's trademark growl. For the most part, Buju and executive producer Donovan Germain steer clear of pandering to cross-over audiences, choosing ...
| | Def Jamaica CD (2003)
Fire Fire Burning music CDs
$12.65 This compilation highlights a musical form that has been a shot in the arm for the ailing U.S. hip-hop collective. Beset by warmed-over gangsta-style imagery and threadbare production values, the industry came up with a winning formula in the combination of hip-hop and Jamaican dancehall, a perky amalgam of bossa-nova beats, reggae, and old-school toasting that had been popular almost everywhere but the U.S. since the mid-1980s.
DEF JAMAICA features established American artists such as Cam'ron, Shawnna, and Juelz Santana on infectious cuts spiced up with insistent ubiquitous dancehall beats. On the triumphant (and wildly popular) "Dude," Ms. Thing gets sultry in Indian style with Shawnna, assisted by the broader-than-Broadway vocal stylings of Beenie Man. Nokio puts recent U.S. gangsta rap efforts to shame with the crisp production style and rhythmic smarts of "Murda," while the Ghostface Killah/Elephant Man collaboration, "Girls Callin'," shows that gangsta ...
| | Big Youth Screaming Target CD (1973) Bonus Tracks
Fire Fire Burning songs
$10.19 This reggae classic, long heralded as a cornerstone of the DJ genre, was remastered and reissued in 2006. Along with U-Roy, Big Youth was one of the most influential DJs on the Jamaican scene in the 1970s, helping to develop and popularize the tradition of singers "toasting" over records (a tradition that bears a direct lineage to dancehall and rap). Big Youth's 1973 debut SCREAMING TARGET has the passionate vocalist espousing conscious themes over smartly produced roots reggae rhythms in a way that sounds as fresh decades later as it did upon its original release. The reissue contains 14 bonus tracks and crisply remastered sound.
Big Youth's 1973 debut is one ...

| | Sizzla Story Continues... Best Of CDs (2002)
Fire Fire Burning CD music
$17.59 Sizzla's success is no mystery. He is a lightning-tongued DJ who can ride a rhythm and spout creative rhymes with the best of the dancehall chatters, and while he's no crooner, he is a better-than-average singer who presents his Bobo Dread beliefs with an appealing combination of rootswise devotion and gruff, aggressive certainty. And ever since attaching himself to Fattis Burrell's acclaimed Xterminator crew, he has done so to the accompaniment of the best dancehall and neo-roots rhythms available. This very useful two-disc best-of gives a good overview of Sizzla's work since the mid-'90s. Interestingly, ...
