In Swinging Amsterdam CD music
$11.69 The marketing department at Warner Brothers must have really wanted to get a jump on the holiday season when they released Faith Hill's 2008 Christmas album, JOY TO THE WORLD, in September. Hill's set of carols and traditional songs may not suit the late summer, but that doesn't make JOY TO THE WORLD any less of a treat. As albums like BREATHE and FIREFLIES proved, Hill has no problem crossing over to mainstream audiences, and this Christmas set (the singer's first) should ...
| | Hank Williams Revealed: The Unreleased Recordings CDs (2009) DGBK
In Swinging Amsterdam music CDs
$30.54 1951 was a breakthrough year for Hank Williams. He had a string of moderate country hits already under his belt, but the release that year of his version of an old jazz age novelty tune called "Lovesick Blues" suddenly made him a big star. It also meant his touring schedule increased, but he still found time that year to slip into Nashville and prerecord shows for the Mother's Best Flour Company. These good-natured and intimate performances were cut to acetate discs and then played over the air on Nashville's WSM radio station. Brittle, disposable, and made for only a few plays, these acetates were then shelved and forgotten until they were literally rescued from the trash in the '70s by an alert WSM employee. In all, 72 of these shows survived, containing some 143 songs, and ...

| | Brooks & Dunn Brand New Man CD
In Swinging Amsterdam songs
$6.29 Well, this is it--the album that put dancing back in country music, and in turn, placed Brooks & Dunn at the top of the country music hierarchy.
Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn, dyed-in-the-wool honky tonkers, two-step it to the top of the charts with a package of blistering beer-drinkin', boot-scootin' country rockers. In fact, it is "Boot Scootin' Boogie" which transformed the ...
| | Mud Use Your Imagination CD (1975) (Import) United Kingdom
In Swinging Amsterdam album
$15.65 Fronted by vocalist/trumpeter Les Gray, this cult quartet charmed listeners with their unabashed disregard for utilizing one single style -- one day they be a horn-based blue-eyed soul band, and the next a jangly guitar pop group. This set features their two biggest hits, "L'l'lucy" and "Show Me You're A Woman."
British glam-rock kings Mud, famed for hits like "Tiger Feet," made a break from their beginnings with their fifth album, USE YOUR IMAGINATION. It found the band embracing a heavier guitar attack (on some tracks) than that of their earlier recordings. It also found them looking beyond the famed Mike Chapman/Nicky Chinn team for material. A transitional album, it's a curious, interesting beast, flitting between zippy, hard-charging glam rock, contemporary MOR pop, and '50s rock & roll pastiche.
In 1975 Mud decided they didn't need to be puppets of the highly successful songwriters/producers Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman any longer. While the duo had written all the band's hits like "Tiger Feet" and "Dynamite," Mud had been penning their own B-sides and felt they could strike out on their own without striking out. Their first self-penned single, "L'L'Lucy," was a hit, reaching number ten, and the album Use Your Imagination reached number 33. Not exactly smashes, but enough to keep the band in the spotlight. The album was a bit of a departure from their previous records, which were loaded with covers of rock classics and seemed nothing more than placeholders between Chinn/Chapman singles. There are only two covers here, a silly reggae take of the Everly Brothers' "Bird Dog" and a rollicking take of Curtis Lee's "Under the Moon of Love" (which later became a hit for Showaddywaddy with a very similar arrangement). The rest are composed by the band or contemporary songwriters and are a mixed bag of glammy rockers and '50s-styled ballads. The rockers fare better, with "R.U. Man ...

$12.69 Bad Fathers are an American rock band formed in Iowa City in 2002. The band consists of vocalists Juan Hooks, Austin Galante, and Justin Alan Cox, guitarist Jeff Ryon, bassist Miah Handley and drummer Ryan Turi. The stylistically diverse band has been described by MTV as, "Spazzed out Punk Rap." The band has released three full length albums, Go Poke a Hole in Yourself (2004), Angels in the Chamber (2005), Sex Defender (2009), and a 12' vinyl Swallow for Iowa (2003). Angels has received much critical acclaim and achieved commercial success during Warped Tour '05. URB magazine's review of Angels said, "Mixing the free-for-all fun of punk rock with the street sensibility of hip hop & sexy swagger of reggae, Bad Fathers bring an amusing, ...
