A survivor of the alternative nation '90s, the Offspring have shown themselves to be surprisingly adept at sticking around. Years after they set independent record sales with the appropriately named SMASH, they returned to the charts with their semi-novelty hit, "Pretty Fly (For a White Guy)," reminding their fans that they still had it. The latest demonstration of what the Offspring are still capable of comes with 2008's RISE AND FALL, RAGE AND GRACE, a big-sounding, slick album complete with Metallica producer Bob Rock on board. The music is vintage Orange County punk, replete with Bad Religion harmonies and the driven sound of T.S.O.L., Social Distortion, and every classic group that came out of that suburb. That's not to say there aren't surprises, such as "A Lot Like Me," which features a chiming piano worthy of Coldplay, and "Fix You," pure radio power balladry.

Kerrang (Magazine) (p.60) - "[B]y the parameters they've set themselves -- sometimes fast, sometimes atmospheric, always melodic punk rock -- The Offspring are quite brilliant." Rise And Fall, Rage And Grace Music Offspring Rise And Fall, Rage And Grace Songs Rise And Fall, Rage And Grace Music Rise And Fall, Rage And Grace Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) The BEST of the Offspring lot.... As of Yet!!!! it's THIS album right here and 2000's "Conspiracy of One" that make up the BEST qualities in The Offspring's arsenal with regards to PUNK ROCK and the entire album, as, if you take a listen to these whole albums, you won't find that infamous Ska Punk track on it as with others, and 'Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace' is nothing short of a more improved punk ROCK sound from the band, stating more serious issues in a more political approach, yet from start to finish, you'll find songs really GRAB your attention in one way or another, as I for one could never SKIP a track on this incredible CD, pretty as ALL of The Offspring's albums.... let's see, certain favorite songs of mine off ofthis cd are: "Trust In You" , "Hammerhead" , "Alot Like Me" , "Takes Me Nowhere" , "Kristy, Are You Doing Okay?" , "Nothingtown" , "Stuff Is Messed Up" , "Let's Hear It For Rock Bottom" and "Rise and Fall"..... amazing!!! rock on Offspring!!! The Offspring still got it! I love this cd! there is not a single bad song on it. the offspring somehow manages to produce awesome, original songs with every album, always going in a slightly different direction, but still maintaining their distinct sound. even though ron welty isn't with them anymore, they rock just as hard as ever! best songs are "you're gonna go far, kid", "fix you" "hammerhead" and "a lot like me" Submitted by purplehaze2010 (Hotchkiss, CO, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Dexter what happen? and your voice I've been a Offspring fan for 15 year now but
this is the worst Offspring album I ever heared in 2008 to say
I thought they'll never make a disappointing album but I guess every band has a bad album at least ones in their career
Dexter please please please
never ever ever make a album that
that relates to politics
leave that to Bad Religion
And for Greg, Noodles, Mr Freese
well 50/50
I think you should make another album
like the first 6 albums

In their '40's and better than ever!!! I think it's awesome that the older bands are making comebacks these days! But, of all of them, the Offspring have taken the lead! 2008 was the year that our favorite classic rock bands would show that they still have what it takes to keep our ears ringing by releasing their new albums (Judas Priest's "Nostradomus", Motley Crue's "Saints of Los Angeles", AC/DC's "Black Ice", etc.)! Sure, they didn't make a 'perfect' album! But, it was damn sure good enough! Songs like "Hammerhead", "You're Gonna' Go Far, Kid!" and "Trust In You" are three of their best anthems in years! The rest of the album wasn't as great as those tracks but they held true to their titles! Trust me, these guys will keep doing just fine for themselves if they keep making albums as listenable and fantastic as this one! If you don't have this album in your rock collection, I would buy it for you myself! The only reason it's missing a star is because more could have been done to this album besides the ballads, but it's still worth a listen! Is that comment enough for you? Rise And Fall, Rage And Grace
$9.69 The liner notes to this Elektra recording claim that Robert Mason "has built the world's first multi-voiced synthesizer that can be played like a real keyboard instrument with full chords and tonal clusters." With accompaniment by drummer Stephen Gadd, tenor and soprano saxophonist Michael Brecker, bassist Jaime Austria, percussion player Bruce Ditmas, and guitarist Harvey Sarch, Mason creates some playful riffs, but didn't cause Wendy Carlos or Keith Emerson to lose any sleep. A strange amalgam of rock and jazz fusion jams which aren't jazz enough for fans of the genre to seek out (unless the Michael Brecker fanatics have to have all his work), nor rock enough to satisfy the Emerson, Lake & Palmer audience. Sure it is fun to listen to the synth, but it doesn't say much -- the vibe is definitely that of people messing around to see what cool sounds they can come up with -- there just aren't enough of them. "Strawberry Fields Forever" might be the best track, just a faithful rendition ...
