| | Los Lonely Boys Forgiven CD Los Lonely Boys Discography of CDs
(2 Customer Reviews)
On their third studio album, 2008's FORGIVEN, Los Lonely Boys offer up another round of their signature "Texican" style. This time, however, the Garza brothers--Henry (guitar), Jojo (bass), and Ringo (drums)--play down the Latino influences, and opt for more straight pop, rock, and blues leanings. Aided by New Orleans keyboard legend Dr. John and producer Steve Jordan (John Mayer, Robert Cray), the Garzas ease into a radio-friendly set that includes the dreamy title track, the happily romantic "Staying with Me," and the passionate "You Can't See the Light," which features Henry's searing six-string work. Other high points include the Lenny Kravitz-like tunes "Heart Won't Tell a Lie" and "Make It Better," which capture the trio's simmering live energy. While some LLB diehards might miss the Texan group's vintage Santana-isms, ultimately the ensemble's catchy melodies make for an accessible album that should appeal to a wide array of pop/rock fans.

| | Los Lonely Boys Sacred CD (2006)
Forgiven CD music
$8.99 Texan trio Los Lonely Boys (comprising siblings Henry, JoJo, and Ringo Garza) garnered plenty of attention when their self-titled debut (recorded with and championed by Willie Nelson) was released on Epic Records in 2004. The group's 2006 follow-up, SACRED, expands upon the first album's powerful roots-rock sound, adding additional elements of soul, R&B, country, and Tejano to the mix, while fleshing out the sound with accordion, electric organ, and horns.
The album's lead-off single, "Diamonds," encapsulates everything exciting about the band with its muscular guitar attack, high-flown harmonies, and inescapably catchy refrain. But there are plenty of highlights here, including the album's opener, "My Way," and the stirring ballad ...

$10.39 From the slinky, sexy opener, "Best Damn Fool," to the blues history lesson of "Who's Gonna Fill Those Shoes," to the slow-burn closer "I Found Happiness," Guy doesn't seem to have mellowed with age. In fact, he wails and shreds here ...
| | Doors Soft Parade CD (1969) Gold; Remastered
Forgiven CD music
$16.02 Dismissed by the benighted as the Doors' "pop album," SOFT PARADE is one of the band's most adventurous recordings, utilizing strings and horns without resorting to schlocky over-production and moving far beyond their blues roots. Morrison was fully into his shaman phase by 1969, and his obsession with that image is reflected in the proselytizing air of "Tell All the People," and of course "Shaman's Blues." The album's biggest hit "Touch Me," while easily the group's most radio-friendly offering, is a pop classic that ranks among the great '60s AM radio tunes. "Wild Child" is a brief return to the blues-rock of yore, but the title track is a sophisticated, extended piece that moves through several different moods and textures, full of the elliptical, poetic lyrics that were Morrison's trademark.
The weakest studio album recorded with Jim Morrison in the group, partially because their experiments with brass and strings on about half the tracks ...

| | Hank Crawford Groove Master CD (1990)
Forgiven songs
$9.59 Hank Crawford always puts a lot of passion into each note he plays. On this set of blues and soulful ballads, Crawford caresses each melody as usual but the lack of tempo variations and the generally so-so material keep this from being one of his more essential recordings. Guitarist Melvin Sparks has a few fine solos but otherwise the backup band (which ...

$13.49 | | Joe Simon Monument Of Soul CD (2001) (Import) United Kingdom
Forgiven album
$17.29 Monument of Soul is a comprehensive collection of Joe Simon's 1966-1972 releases on the Sound Stage 7 label, including nearly everything that he put out on singles through the company during that period. Among them are all of his R&B and pop chart hits on Sound Stage 7, which in Simon's case were quite numerous -- 16 in all, even if just a couple of them ("The Chokin' Kind" and "You Keep Me Hanging On") got into the Top 40. Simon's Sound Stage 7 period is underrepresented by the singer's best career retrospective, Rhino's Music in My Bones: The Best of Joe Simon, so this is a welcome in-depth view of the earlier era. And, for listeners who prefer his Nashville soul stint to his slicker Philly soul and disco productions of the '70s, this will probably be the Simon CD they'll want most. Simon was not quite on the Hall of Fame level of soul singers, but he was on the next level down, and he pretty consistently delivered the goods, even on B-sides, of which there ...
