2008 release from the German Thrash Metal trio, their first studio album in 14 years. Led by Destruction's Schmier, one of the most popular figures in European Metal, Headhunter pick up where they left off in 1994. Schmier's vocals are unmistakably him and unique, but are used in a more melodic way than in Destruction, and the guitar is powerful and yet melodic in its own way. The very special sound of the band is back! This is no fly-by-night cash in. Tracks like the powerful, speedy title track or the intense "Remission" will be classics in their own right in time. Cover versions of Judas Priest's "Rapid Fire" and Skid Row's "18 And Life" top off Parasite Of Society perfectly and the interest that has already been generated, even before this animal is released, will mean that you'll be seeing a whole load of Headhunter this year. Parasite Of Society album
$21.00 Comprised of 18 tracks culled from the singer/composer's first three decades, The Very Best of Enya was pieced together by the artist herself, along with longtime collaborators Nicky and Roma Ryan. Luckily, the trio seems enamored by most of the same songs that the general public is, resulting in one of those rare "greatest-hits" collections that goes deep without depriving the listener of the essentials. With tunes like "Orinoco Flow," "Caribbean Blue," and "Book of Days" in the pot and out of the way, it's easier to appreciate hidden gems like "Cursum Perficio," "Boadicea," "Trains and Winter Rains," and "Anywhere Is." Also notable is the inclusion of "May It Be" and a previously unreleased version of "Aníron (I Desire)," both of which originally appeared on the soundtrack for the first chapter of Peter Jackson's beloved Lord of the Rings trilogy. ~ James Christopher Monger

Parasite Of Society album
$12.99 Throwdown have had to eat a lot of crap in recent years because their vocalist, Dave Peters, is doing such a blatant, idolatrous imitation of Pantera/Down vocalist Phil Anselmo. It doesn't help that with 2005's Vendetta they shifted from the thick-necked, straight-edge hardcore of their early catalog to a version of the "groove metal" practiced by Pantera, Trivium, and other modern metal bands. On this latest album, though, Peters occasionally shifts from imitating Anselmo to imitating Anselmo-imitating- Mudvayne's Chad Gray. The music, too, has a lot of Mudvayne's combination ...
| | Stryper Yellow And Black Attack CD (1984)
Parasite Of Society CD music
$8.49 When church leaders were accusing heavy metal of encouraging Satanism, Stryper set out to prove that metal and hard rock could be used to promote Christianity. The southern California band was viewed with suspicion by both ministers (who refused to believe that Christianity and metal were compatible) and fellow headbangers -- and yet, Stryper managed to sell millions of albums to both Christian and secular audiences. Stryper's first release, The Yellow and Black Attack!, showed the ...
| | Kleenex Girl Wonder Graham Smith Is The Coolest Person Alive CD (2000) Bonus Tracks; Japan
Parasite Of Society music CDs
$36.09 This Japanese import contains six bonus cuts--"Cocaine World," "Creation Upon Pharaohglacier," "CCCCCCCCCC Project," "Do U Really Want Me By Prince," "Totally Orthodox Jew," & "Daddaroject."
On this, his fourth official release, Kleenex Girl Wonder (aka Graham Smith) delivers a double album full of "interactive entertainment." Like Athens-based Of Montreal or Masters of the Hemisphere, Kleenex Girl Wonder has taken a more theatrical approach to this recording. There are a series of skits based loosely on the concept of "the creation of an album" and the intervention of a government program known simply as "the program" sprinkled between the songs proper. Depending on whether you're in the mood for a little charming storytelling or straight-ahead guitar pop, this conceptual approach serves as both the album's downfall and its salvation. Songs like "Reunited Airlines" reveal that Kleenex Girl Wonder remains able and willing to craft melodic pop songs, but sandwiched as these songs are between electronic bits of madness, it takes a bit of patience to wade through the entire two-disc set; however, as Smith mentions early on, "that song sounds too much like our old stuff." The bits in between are actually quite funny, and with songs like "Have We Been Working Out? (Bling Bling)," Smith is a very entertaining listen from start to finish. How many times you make it through is directly related to how charming you find the narrative, but if it's songs you're after, you can always use the program feature on your CD player. ~ Terrance Miles
Graham Smith claims that the he got the title for his second Kleenex Girl Wonder album, Graham Smith Is the Coolest Person Alive, from a note that was written by a high school classmate. But given that Smith has a penchant for faux rock-star posturing, it is just as likely that he wrote that note himself. The comparisons between Smith and Guided By Voices mastermind Robert Pollard are plentiful, but such comparisons focus almost entirely on their shared affinity for lo-fi recording and short, Beatlesesque pop songs. There are many similarities in sound and structure between the two, but Smith is no mere copycat. While Guided By Voices' lo-fi songs sound like a collection of live first or second takes, Smith's work is the result of precise, deliberate production, replete with synthesizers and other electronic sounds. Smith plays every instrument on the album, and he uses this creative liberty to load each track with layer upon layer of sound. Perhaps because of this, Graham Smith Is the Coolest Person Alive suffers from sounding too muddled at times. Smith is, like Pollard, a talented and prolific writer of pop melodies, but also like Pollard, these melodies often could benefit from sparser and/or cleaner arrangements. All nitpicking aside, the majority of these songs are filled with ...
