More Sad Hits album for sale Product Description
MORE SAD HITS was the first release by Damon Krukowski and Naomi Yang after the demise of their band Galaxie 500. Though subtler, it has a similar bearing to the former outfit. Mark Kramer, who produced all the Galaxie 500 albums, is also on board for this one, functioning as a veritable third member and playing an assortment of instruments. Mellotron-laced tapestries and tape loops embellish the tranquil music with mystical, almost psychedelic filigree. ...See Full Description

Hercules & Love Affair Hercules & Love Affair CD (2008)
More Sad Hits CD music Hercules and Love Affair is the mythological-themed music project of erstwhile club-promoter and DJ/producer Andrew Butler. A devotee of underground club culture from disco's pre-whitewashed roots to the innovative early `90s dance music of Chicago and Detroit, Butler and his cohorts--who include Antony of Antony & the Johnsons--make forward-thinking house inspired by a canny appreciation and clever deconstruction of classic dance music tropes. Their self-titled debut is a grand revisit of past styles and motifs. Leading off with the synthetic percussive rattle of the mid-tempo Balearic torch song "Time Will," the sparse beats slink seductively into the mellifluous quaver of Antony's vocals. "You Belong" and "Blind," meanwhile, faithfully adhere to club music conventions, ...

Fucked Up Chemistry of Common Life CD (2008)
More Sad Hits album for sale Fucked Up have named their next album as 'The Chemistry Of Common Life', which will be released on October 6th (UK) / 7th (in the U.S.) via Matador. It also seems the Toronto sextet have a choc-a-bloc release schedule in the coming months too - firstly this month (July 21st) the group will deliver their 'Year Of The Pig' EP, before a 7" single of 'No Epiphany' is released in the Autumn / Fall ahead of the album.
After the 18-minute single, "Year of the Pig," which eloquently spoke for the often voiceless Canadian sex workers, fans had no idea what to expect from Toronto's most adventurous punk band. THE CHEMISTRY OF COMMON LIFE is often bruising, but as much for its quiet moments as its heavy ones. Singer Pink Eyes has retained his blustering, gruff voice, but the music surrounding him is more subtle and shaded, borrowing equally from artier acts like Sonic Youth and the ...

Josef K Entomology CD (2006)
More Sad Hits songs Thanks to an endorsement from Franz Ferdinand (and a little song called "A Girl Like You" by frontman Edwyn Collins), Scottish pop band Orange Juice gets all the name recognition, but within the world of taut, jangly, slightly funky art-rock, fellow Glaswegians Josef K are surely as important as their citrusy brethren. Josef K were never the easiest band to track down stateside, so Domino's 22-track ENTOMOLOGY is a more than welcome, if not outright essential, reissue. Consisting of the band's obscure early singles for famed Postcard Records, tracks from the band's two full-lengths, and a 1981 Peel Session, the collection isn't exactly definitive, but it's an excellent introduction to and portrait of an ignored band that, whether one notices or not, has its fingerprints all over the early 2000s' new New Wave.

Marissa Nadler Little Hells CD (2009)
More Sad Hits buy CD music The fourth album by Boston-based singer-songwriter Marissa Nadler is a bit of a retrenchment following 2007's SONGS III: BIRD ON THE WATER. That album, featuring production by Greg Weeks and the musical accompaniment of his Espers bandmates, pushed Nadler closer to the "freak folk" contingent than is her natural metier; the sparser, quieter LITTLE HELLS is not a return to the acoustic starkness of her first two albums so much as a more natural continuation and expansion of that sound. A uniformly dark-hued album that escapes bleakness through the tender beauty of Nadler's voice, LITTLE HELLS is the singer's most fully realized work so far.
Personnel: Marissa Nadler (vocals, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, Wurlitzer organ); Myles Baer (guitar, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, Wurlitzer organ, Theremin); Dave Scher (lap steel guitar, piano, organ, synthesizer); Simone Pace (drums, percussion); Chris Coady (programming).
Audio Mixer: Chris Coady .

Mahjongg Kontpab CD (2008)
More Sad Hits songs Creator of its own strange mythology, the Chicago-based indie collective Mahjongg presents 2008's KONTPAB in honor of its reigning deity of the same name. Determined to help listeners move from the constricting "Grid" to the liberating "Sphere," the post-punk-influenced art-rock ensemble propels the faithful towards another realm with Fela Kuti-like polyrhythms (see the mesmerizing "Pontiac"), quirky Talking Heads-inspired grooves ("Kottbusser Torr"), and video-game bleeps and blips ("Tell the Police the Truth").

Mi Ami Watersports CD (2009)
More Sad Hits album for sale San Francisco trio Mi Ami seem to take a certain all-but-forgotten strain of mutant funk from the late 1970s post-punk scene as their conceptual starting point. Acts like ESG, Liquid Liquid, James Chance and the Contortions, and A Certain Ratio are Mi Ami's forebears, but the trio proffer an even more tightly constricted, edge-of-explosion feel on tracks like "Echononecho" and "The Man In Your House."
Personnel: Daniel Martin-McCormick (vocals, guitar); Jacob Long (bass instrument); Damon Palermo (drums).
