BIG BLUE BALL is an ongoing collaboration shepherded by Peter Gabriel, World Party leader Karl Wallinger, and producer Stephen Hague. The basic tracks for these 11 songs were recorded at Gabriel's Real World studios between 1991 and 1995, during week-long sessions with special guests, including Sinead O'Connor, Tim Finn, Marta Sebestyen, Papa Wemba, Jah Wobble, gospel group the Holmes Brothers, members of Living Colour, Afro Celt Sound System, and dozens of other American, European, Asian, and African musicians. Pieced together and remixed in the 13 years following the last of these sessions, BIG BLUE BALL still sounds primarily like a Gabriel and Wallinger collaboration, with those singer-songwriters' eclectic sensibilities prevailing, although the guest singers and musicians are fully represented as well. BIG BLUE BALL is available as a digital download, a standard CD, a deluxe CD with enhanced packaging, and a vinyl LP.

| | Danny Kirwan Second Chapter CD (1975) With Book; Limited Edition; Digipak
Big Blue Ball music CDs
$19.79 The first solo album from Fleetwood Mac singer/songwriter Daniel David Kirwan has the future producer for Human League and Buzzcocks, Martin Rushent, utilizing those skills here, as well as engineering. The sound is crystal clear, and a feather in the cap for Rushent as well as Kirwan. It starts off with an uncharacteristic "Ram Jam City," which has more Lindsey Buckingham sounds than one would expect, especially since the two guitarists come from two different musical worlds. "Odds and Ends" is more lighthearted, the kind of music Paul McCartney toyed with on The White Album's "Rocky Raccoon." What Second Chapter immediately sets forth is the importance of Kirwan as a pop artist, and how, despite Fleetwood Mac's success after he left, his sounds could still have been beneficial to that supergroup. "Hot Summers Day" is a fine example of that, a beautiful song that could offset Buckingham's gritty ramblings. It would have made a nice counterpoint as Stevie Nicks complemented Christine McVie's tunes with her adventures, bringing an important change of pace to that popular band's hits. The jacket looks like a dusty old family album-style book holding Kirwan's Second Chapter. And the music reflects that old-world feel in titles like "Skip a Dee Doo" and "Falling in Love with You." Three of the best songs on this excellent outing are "Love Can Always Bring You Happiness," "Second Chapter," and a sleepy and beautiful number called "Silver Streams." ...

| | Steve Winwood 9 Lives CD (2008)
Big Blue Ball album
$11.29 After more than 40 years of making music, and over 30 as a solo artist, former Spencer Davis Group/Traffic singer Steve Winwood truly seems to have 9 LIVES, sounding as vital as ever on his ninth solo outing. Picking up on the Latin inflections of the preceding ABOUT TIME, percolating congas weave their way through most of the album, adding an insistent pulse. Unsurprisingly, the atmospheric blues-rocker "Dirty City," featuring an Eric Clapton guest appearance, garnered the most attention, but there are plenty of other pleasures here.
The jazzy soprano sax that floats over the congas and acoustic guitar on "Fly," and the floating textures of "Raging Sea," are evocative of Winwood's days in Traffic, while the invigorating organ tabs of "We're All Looking" bear a link to his Spencer Davis Group work. Throughout the album, churning, tension-filled riffs and syncopated Afro-Cuban rhythms ...
| | Coldplay Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends CD (2008)
Big Blue Ball CD music
$14.65 On 2008's VIVA LA VIDA OR DEATH AND ALL HIS FRIENDS, Coldplay follows up X&Y's accessible anthems by tweaking its signature Britpop sound with the aid of renowned producer Brian Eno, celebrated not only for his own innovative ambient albums, but also for his behind-the-boards work with U2. Eno's contributions don't result in a ZOOROPA-like foray into dance-pop, however--VIVA LA VIDA sticks with Coldplay's knack for mid-tempo majesty, but expands these tracks with studio bells and whistles that pull the group out of its stadium-ready comfort zone.
Though the pulsing instrumental opener, "Life in Technicolor," might make listeners think that they're accidentally playing the latest M83 album, VIVA asserts itself as a Coldplay outing with "Cemeteries of London," a dreamy tune that finds Martin singing in a comfortable middle ...

Big Blue Ball songs
$16.39 Formed in the late months of 2006, Pride Parade has quickly become a heavy rock darling in their hometown of Athens, GA. The first six months of 2007 saw the 3-guitar 5-piece splitting time between studio recording with engineer Kyle Spence (of Harvey Milk) and playing select shows outside of Georgia. Pride Parade made their club packed Athens debut at the June 2007 Athfest music festival. Shortly after, they released a 4-song Ep titled \"V\" - a preview of the driven versatile rock monster for which the band is known. Each show drew larger crowds and soon Pride Parade found themselves back in the studio with Spence recording their debut LP. Local and regional fan based buzz backed by print media interest allowed Pride Parade (when not recording) to share the stage with larger acts Harvey Milk, The Black Lips, and Qui (David Yow). May 2008 witnessed the birth of \"Descendants\", the 11-song album recorded and released by the band. Prior to the album release came a nomination for Pride Parade as \"Best Rock Band\" in the Athens\' annual Flagpole Music Awards. Pride Parade\'s \"Descendants\" features hard, layered guitars, thunderously tight rhythms and a hearty portion of achingly gruff lyrical melodies. \"This music is dirty. It\'s earthy and working-class and heavy and populist. It\'s also distinctively Southern without being anything close to traditional Southern rock. Pride Parade\'s music ...
| | Mark Cameron Life Of Illusion CD (2008)
Big Blue Ball album
$10.15 Since 1972 Mark Cameron has been playing guitar. He was heavily influenced by the 1970's sound and brought this influence to several bands he founded during the 1980's and 90's. In 1984 Mark founded the Twin-Cities based band Citizen's Patrol. Their releases included 'On Patrol' (1986) 'Theory and Methods' (1988) and 'Range of Emotion' 1990. The band received favorable radio airplay with the singles 'Chemical Girl' and 'Can't Take another Night'. In 1989 Mark's song 'On the Avenue' was selected for revue by a panel of record industry representatives, who argued passionately about the meaning behind the material. Video releases included 'On Washington Avenue' (1986) and 'On the Beltline' (1988) Along with Rock and Folk influences Mark has brought a Blues/Soul character into much of his song writing. In 1999 Mark completed his first solo work 'From Hell to Breakfast' and is releasing his newest effort: 'Life of Illusion' this year. For this new release Mark has brought together a diverse group of musicians. This includes drummer John Benedict who has been working with Mark since 1980. Also featured are Bassist Mark Jueneman, guitarist Bobby Schnitzer and Harmonica legend Bruce Kernow. Piano and Hammond organ tracks were performed by Dr. Matt Fink. Additional vocal performances were provided by Tracy Kramer and Serrin Andreas. Tracking, mixing and mastering were completed by Rob Genedek at the Brewhouse in Minneapolis. 'Life of Illusion' has a very live feel. All of the tracks were performed with John Benedict, Mark Jueneman and Mark Cameron playing together in the studio with no metronome or computer assistance. The Songs:Never Did: This is a slow-burn rock song that features the earthy drumming style of John Benedict. It explores all the small crossroads that a person can encounter and how several small decisions can add up to one big result. Bobby Schnitzer delivers a Clapton-esque performance on lead guitar. Since I met you: This is a blues song featuring the stellar Harmonica playing of Bruce Kernow. The powerful metaphor of two lovers being separated by jail cells of their own making gives the song a unique stamp.Ambition: Originally written in 1987, this song has morphed into a completely new creature for this version. 'The lean and hungry look is coming through' is a favorite lyric. Silly Hats: This song could be about hatred, intolerance, paranoia or ignorance. Or it might just be about hats. You decide. Sometimes: Sometimes you just need to record an over-the-top rock ballad. This song is indulgent by design and is a game changer in live performance. Life of Illusion: This song simulates the effect of a person seeing themselves in a clear pool of water and then touching the surface to create a wave effect. The farther you get from the beginning, the more distorted the image becomes. This is a song about a conflicted person and the pain she endures. Nervous World: If this sounds a bit like an 80's song that is because it is. It was originally recorded by John and Mark back in 1982. Every so often they dig it back up and take it for a drive. It still seems to run pretty well. It features pots, pans and other percussion along with the many voices of Serrin Andreas. What do you do all day anyway? No Idea: This is a song about misplaced hero worship. Bobby Schnitzer gives a moving performance on guitar. Boxcar blues: This song might sound a bit like a fairy tale, but actually it is all true. It is the story of Donald Libby, who sheltered many homeless people (and musicians) in his boxcar over the years. Game Over: This song ...
