Little Mermaid album
$6.09 Originally released in 1954 and padded with three bonus tracks for the digital age, First Christmas Record for Children is a timeless, yet tepid, run-through of holiday favorites ("Here Comes Santa Claus," "Frosty, the Snow Man," "Jingle Bells," et. al.) as performed ...
| | Have A Fun Christmas CD (2004)
Little Mermaid CD music
$10.05 The percentage of Americans who are weary of the standard roster of Christmas songs--"Silent Night" and "Joy to the World," among others--is probably quite large. For some listeners, a lifetime of hearing these songs ad infinitum has begun to take its toll. Fortunately, the 20th century has seen a bumper crop of seasonal standards. Some of these tunes lack the weight of tradition, and this quality is part of their appeal. This is holiday music that is often humorous and goes easy on the religious themes, making it more generally accessible.
HAVE A FUN CHRISTMAS collects some of the best of these lighthearted tunes on one disc. Jokes and good times are the keynotes here, as on Elmo & Patsy's darkly witty "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer" and the Chipmunks' ...

| | Ella Fitzgerald Ella CD (1969)
Little Mermaid CD music
$10.19 Ella Fitzgerald's first flirtation with the acid rock era was a 1968 live date with Tommy Flanagan, titled Sunshine of Your Love, but it featured only a pair of songs from rock composers, Cream's title song and the Beatles' "Hey Jude." (Granted, they were the first two songs on the LP.) One year later, Verve booked studio time at Olympic Studios in London for her to work with producer Richard Perry, a former associate of the Leiber & Stoller crew at the Red Bird label and fresh off a remake of Fats Domino's image (for Fats Is Back). The results here are roughly similar to what he did with Fats; Perry chose songs that were most easily rendered by his artist and most capable of crossing over. Ella submerges herself nearly entirely in the work of rock or R&B stalwarts -- Smokey Robinson, the Beatles, Randy Newman, Harry Nilsson -- and Perry obliges with arrangements anchored by horns, acoustic or electric pianos, and only occasionally, strings. Despite the comfortable backings, it's never able to escape the feel of a crossover; on her version of Smokey ...
| | Miley Cyrus Breakout CD (2008)
Little Mermaid music CDs
$12.49 Technically Miley Cyrus's second solo album--the first being MEET MILEY CYRUS, the latter part of HANNAH MONTANA 2--2008's BREAKOUT finds the energetic young superstar drawing a distinct line between herself and her blonde-wig-wearing TV character. This shedding of MONTANA persona gives the outing the assertive feel of a debut, as readily heard on the triumphant title track and the jangly, fast-paced "7 Things." Cyrus also takes on Cyndi Lauper's 1980s hit "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun," imbuing the giddy tune with the same kind of 21st-century sheen that No Doubt gave to Talk Talk's "It's My Life."
Naturally, Billy Ray's daughter makes room for some introspective ballads during the second half of BREAKOUT, with "Bottom of the Ocean" and "Four Walls" distinguishing themselves as moody and mature songs that expand Miley's teeny-bopper sound. There are no major curveballs on BREAKOUT, just accessible pop/rock tracks that showcase a steadily developing artist in the spotlight.

| | Star Anna and The Laughing Dogs Only Thing That Matters CD (2009)
Little Mermaid album
$12.49 Star Anna was born and raised in the small town of Ellensburg, WA. At the age of eleven she got her first snare drum, started taking drum lessons and began buying some of her first CDs at the local record shop. She formed a punk metal band (No Continuous Standing) with a few friends during her freshman year. They stayed together for a little over a year and took third place in a few battle of the band contests. During the summer of 2001, at the age of 16, Star picked up a guitar, taught herself some chords and began writing songs and playing local coffee shops and cafes. Star hit a rough patch that took almost two years to come out of, and when she did she went straight back to the guitar with a little more life experience and a stronger sense of who she was. After she came back to the music again, she started to develop a more alt country/folk sound. Her style has continued to change, never quite definable but still glimmering with her rural upbringing. Though her first record has a more Americana vibe, her second one is clearly more ...
