Unavailable in the U.S.! 2008 digitally remastered and expanded edition of this album from the Rock icon featuring two bonus tracks: alternate takes of 'Haunt's Of Ancient Peace' and 'When Heart Is Open'. Originally released in 1980, Common One again baffled the critics with its meditative, Jazz-influenced spiritual style, helped by Mark Isham's atmospheric trumpet and Pee Wee Ellis on saxophone. At the heart of the album are two remarkable, 15-minute epics: 'Summertime in England', with its beautiful strings and stream-of-consciousness lyrics and 'When Heart Is Open', - with its subtle horns echoing Miles Davis's 'In a Silent Way', creating a serene, enthralling atmosphere. The album also features two of Van's most soulful tracks of the period: 'Wild Honey' and 'Satisfied'. Universal. Van Morrison Common One Songs | 1. | Haunts Of Ancient Peace 2007 Remastered |

Common One album
$11.49 All tracks have been digitally remastered from the original master tapes.
The most commercially accessible of Van Morrison's '70s albums, WAVELENGTH is not an artistic compromise, but rather an expansion of Morrison's sound beyond the blues-based, horn-band approach. With the keyboard work of Camel's Peter Bardens and The Band's Garth Hudson, the arrangements take a step toward rock's electronic future without breaking Morrison's well-established ties to it's past. Basically a continuation of the ideas explored on the previous year's aptly titled A PERIOD OF TRANSITION, the album relies largely on groove-heavy '70s-style R&B tunes that overflow with soul, like "Hungry For Your Love" and "Take It Where You Find It." The title tune, which proved to be quite radio-friendly, points the way to new pop directions.
Wavelength essentially picks up where A Period of Transition left off, offering a focused, full-bodied alternative to that record's warmly fuzzy lack of direction. Like that album, it's hardly a major entry in his catalog, but there are signs that Van Morrison is finding his footing for his latter-day voice. Again, the primary appeal of this record is its atmosphere, a charmingly relaxed outing, high on mildly swinging mid-tempo numbers and round, welcoming ballads. Surely, ...
| | Van Morrison Enlightenment CD (1990) Bonus Tracks; Reissue; Remastered
Common One CD music
$11.49 After spending most of the '80s delving deep into Celtic imagery, Van Morrison made ENLIGHTENMENT, using the early rock 'n' roll and R&B of his youth for inspiration. "Real Real Gone" quotes lines from songs by James Brown, Wilson Pickett and Solomon Burke to reflect getting squarely hit by Cupid's arrow, while "In The Days Before Rock 'N' Roll" is where Morrison gets truly nostalgic about the music of his youth. As usual, the imagery used by the Belfast Cowboy is sharp and buttressed by gorgeous string arrangements.
Morrison's ruminations on love and life traipse some of the same dark corners as Frank Sinatra's more melancholy '50s work. The near-whispered vocals and low rumble of harmonica on "See Me Through" are soaked with a spiritual restlessness that contrasts the sweetness of "She's My Baby" and the upbeat spirit of "Youth Of 1,000 Summers" (a song ripe to be used as a comeback by any number of ...
| | Van Morrison No Guru, No Method, No Teacher CD (1986) Bonus Tracks; Reissue
Common One music CDs
$12.65 Digitally remastered from the original master tapes by Ian Cooper.
When Van Morrison released 1986's NO GURU, NO METHOD, NO TEACHER, he'd spent the better part of the '80s rediscovering himself through spiritual pursuits ranging from born-again Christianity to dabblings with Scientology. Morrison's introspection led to his writing songs for GURU pertaining to everything from actively re-exploring his roots ("Got To Go Back") to the spiritual battle between good and evil ("Here Comes The Knight"). Part of this rebirth involved a heavy dose of Celtic mysticism in the shape of "Tir Na Nog" and "In The Garden," a song which included the album's title in its lyrics in an off-handed swipe at those critics trying to trivialize his religious explorations. Although the heavy-duty ...

$11.49 When you're what the music industry calls a "career artist," with an appeal based on something more substantial than one hit single or album, you can go one of two ways. You can coast along from album to album, churning out variations on the formula that made you successful early in your career, or you can remain a vital, inventive artist, probing the outer reaches of your craft and continually searching for new vistas. THE HEALING GAME proves--not that there was any doubt--that Van Morrison is definitely in the latter camp.
While tracks like "Rough ...
