Animated; Additional Footage; Soundtrack English; Soundtrack French; English Subtitles; Director's Comments; Sensor Matic Gary Winick (THIRTEEN GOING ON 30) had a lot to live up to in remaking a beloved children's movie, itself based on the classic novel by E. B. White, but this 2006 live-action version more than fulfills its promise. With droll '50s-inspired art direction, low-key and earnest performances, and the cutest ensemble cast of farm animals since BABE, Winick maintains the deeply moral (though not moralistic) themes of the original novel and also injects some mild humor and scenes of peril and adventure.
Child actor Dakota Fanning gives an impressively mature performance as the loyal and spunky farm girl Fern who rescues the pig Wilbur--the runt of his litter--from her father's axe. But as Wilbur grows up and faces his likely fate of becoming Christmas dinner, another friend steps in to save the day--the spider Charlotte (voiced by Julia Roberts), who spins fancy, slogan-filled webs above Wilbur's pen to convince his guardians that he is indeed a special pig and worth saving. The resulting hubbub saves his hide and reveals the importance of friendship and loyalty. Additionally, in scene after poignant scene, Wilbur learns about the nature of miracles, the seasons of life and death, and the inherent worth of even the runtiest of us. Theatrical Release: December 15, 2006 Charlotte's Web Reviews: "[TB]he movie is a delight: never coarse, rarely preachy and less concerned with proving its own cleverness than with paying tribute to the wisdom of White's book."-- A. O. Scott, New York Times "What hooks you from the start is Dakota Fanning's unfussy passion as Fern..." -- Grade: A--- Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly 3 stars out of 5 -- "[Fanning is] genuinely adorable without slipping into sickly-sweet territory....CHARLOTTE'S WEB remains surprisingly inviting."-- Emma Morgan, Total Film Charlotte's Web | List Price | $19.99 (You save $3.90) | | Studio | Paramount Home Entertainment | | Orig Year | 2006 | | All Time Sales Rank | 99163 | | CD Universe Part number | 7685349 | | Catalog number | 7903940 | | Discs | 1 | | Release Date | Aug 05, 2008 | | Rating | G (MPAA) | | Running Time | 97 Minutes | | Additional Info | Widescreen; KFP Pins; With Toy | | Movie Details | Color; Letter Boxed; Widescreen; KFP Pins; With Toy; Pin Promo |
Charlotte's Web Movie Review Exactly like the book! Exactly like the book!! I had to see it because I loved the book so much. It really brings the characters to life. Wilbur is so cute & Tempelton is exactly how I pictured him. Julia Roberts voice was so soothing, she made a perfect Charlotte! It was good to see Dakota Fanning in a different movie genre for once. Had laughs & would entertain anyone . I did tear up a bit at the end, until I realized I was crying over a spider! Submitted by lw (Iowa) Was This Review Helpful? $15.99 SEE NO EVIL, HEAR NO EVIL: Wally (Richard Pryor) is blind. Dave (Gene Wilder) is deaf. $16.29 In this meet-the-parents sequel to the romantic fairy tale in which two ogres fall in love, SHREK 2 brings the loveable green menace (voiced by Mike Meyers) back to the big screen for a second round of mischief. This time around, in addition to the voices of Cameron Diaz (as Shrek's sweetheart Fiona) and Eddie Murphy (as their companion Donkey), Julie Andrews and John Cleese chime in as Fiona's parents, Queen Lillian and King Harold. Surprising newcomer Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas)--a slyly funny tabby honed for swashbuckling adventure--joins the crew. Last but certainly not least, the conniving duo of vain Prince Charming (Rupert Everett) and his power-hungry mom, the Fairy Godmother (Jennifer Saunders), spice up the action.
When Fiona insists that her new husband Shrek visit her parents, they travel to Far Far Away (a Disneyfied medieval version of Hollywood) where everything goes wrong. The King and Queen are outraged to see their daughter married to an ogre, and while Fiona tries to calm them, Shrek sets out to find a solution. He finds it, in the form of a Happily Ever After potion, which only complicates matters, drawing all parties into a confused exchange of magic and spells, all for the sake of true love. With shimmering animation giving SHREK 2 near-3-D visuals, the witty scripting and eclectic pop music soundtrack keep the film hopping along with an upbeat pace.
