"Reds," a brilliant epic
"Reds" is one of the most unusual (in composition) and interesting (in subject matter) films I have seen. It is a brilliant epic film which depicts the radical activity of John Reed, an activist instrumental in founding the Communist Party in the U.S. It is also a love story, between Reed and Louise Bryant, set against the background of American radicalism and the Russian Revolution. The film's interest is enhanced with testimony by "witnesses," real life famous individuals recalling the period in which Reed lived. The film deservedly belongs on the American Film Institute's "Ten of the Best Ten," in this case a list of the ten best American epic films. "Reds" was co-written, produced, directed, and stars Warren Beatty as John Reed. Diane Keaton plays his wife, Louise Bryant, also delivering a brilliant performance. Being both a history and film buff, I was proud to add "Reds" to my collection.

I love this film!!!
I think "REDS" is a maravilous film because it shows a very interresting love story between two american writers, who were able to be in Russia during its Revolution.

Reds DVD Features

Warren Beatty's award winning epic mixes drama and interviews with major social radicals of the period. "Reds" tells the story of the love affair between activists Louise Bryant and John Reed. Set against the backdrop of the tumultuous start of the twentieth century, the two journalists' on-again off-again romance is punctuated by the outbreak of WWI and the Bolshevik Revolution. Louise's assignment in France at the outbreak of the war puts an end to their affair. John Reed's subsequent trip to Russia, and his involvement with the Communist party, rekindles their relationship. When Louise arrives in Petrograd, she finds herself swept up in the euphoria of the Revolution. Reed, however, eventually becomes disillusioned with Communism when he sees his words and intentions augmented and controlled by the growing Soviet propaganda machine.
