| | Sibelius: Sym No 2&4/Rachmaninov: Isle Of CD Ansermet / Osr / Rachmaninov / Sibelius CDS
While it remains a pity that Ansermet didn't venture further into the bleaker landscapes of Sibelius, less may well be more, and these epic recordings of the Second and Fourth symphonies, together with a raw reading of Tapiola are collected together on CD for the first time. The mood of desolation continues with the Paris Conservatoire Orchestra's recording of Rachmaninov's hypnotic tone poem The Isle of the Dead. Sibelius: Sym No 2&4/Rachmaninov: Isle Of
$30.39 Yoshi Gurwell was classically trained as a pianist in Tokyo, Japan. Since coming to Los Angeles in the 1990’s, she was introduced to the ballet world. In a short time, she became very interested in ballet, so trained and studied as an accompanist. She has spent countless hours viewing the works of many major companies and choreographers, attending performances, as well as documentaries on DVD and video, of works from the early 18th century to the present, plus is studying, & arranging music of many ballet composers. Yoshi takes ballet classes, when time permits, to gain a dancer’s perspective, which was a great help when she recorded the tailored arrangements for her CD, “Music for Ballet Lovers Vol. 1”. After considerable success with her first CD, she has recently released “Music for Ballet Lovers, Vol. 2”. Yoshi is currently on staff of the Dance Dept. at Cal State Univ. Long Beach, as well as at Westside School of Ballet in West Los Angeles, Saint Joseph Ballet in Santa Ana, and Los Angeles Ballet. with vice-director, Julie Whittaker, as well as master classes & special event auditions at the Maple Conservatory in Irvine with Charles Maple (director), Chris Martin & Steven Inskeep. Yoshi has also had the opportunities to work with many former and present professional dancers, including Gelsi Kirkland, Laura Alonso, Paloma Herrera, Alexi Moskalenko from the Bolshoi Ballet, Colleen Neary & Patricia Neary of the New York City, Susan Jaffe, Melissa Hale Cole of ABT, Patricia Barker of Pacific Northwest Ballet and Evelyn Cisneros-Legate formerly with the San Francisco Ballet. Also, included in this list is Thordal Christensen, who danced with The Royal Danish Ballet, New York City Ballet, and the Pacific Northwest Ballet. Currently he and his wife, Colleen Neary are the Artistic Directors of the Los Angeles Ballet.
