Indie rock journeyman Sam Jayne has been making music now for nearly 20 years, first with Lync, and more recently with his main project, Love as Laughter. Though Jayne has previously been involved with some big acts such as Beck and Modest Mouse, HOLY may well be the album that brings him closer to his more famous peers. Straying far from Jayne's shaggy roots, an exuberant, afro-pop spiked track such as "All Parts of Me" mimics David Byrne, but the rusty ruin of "Paul Revere" returns with a guitar meltdown on par with Neil Young and Crazy Horse.Spin (pp.98-100) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "'Cleaning Man' finds real catharsis in the despair of a junkie janitor, while 'Konny and Jim' rides a plume of adoration to the stratosphere."
