The legendary Chick Willis can properly be called “The Don Of The Blues” because he’s the “Godfather” of today’s Party Blues. His megahit “Stoop Down Baby” is the precursor to every double entendre-filled hit on the Chitlin’ Circuit from Clarence Carter’s “Strokin’” to Theodis Ealey’s “Stand Up In It”. They owe their existence to the “Blues Don” Chick Willis. And the Don offers two more hits to remind them who’s the boss. “Undercover Hootchie” & “Bootee Call”, which will bring Chick to his commercial peak.BUT, wait! There’s more to the story. See, Chick Willis, the Stoop Down Man, may be widely known for his funny stuff but he’s equally respected as a straight Blues guitar great as evidenced by the W.C. Handy Awards he gained for his acclaimed “From The Heart And Soul” album. This fabulous new CD manages to appeal to both camps without alienating either- from those who like clever Party Blues to those who like lean, mean “nuthin’ but da blues” with a lil’ Soul & Funk thrown in for good measure.
Personnel: Chick Willis (vocals, guitar); Dean Martin (flugelhorn); Rick Gallon (keyboards).
Living Blues (p.62) - "[T]his release offers fine moments. Willis's take on Sonny Boy Williamson's classic 'Don't Start Me To Talking' is a delightful romp..." Chick Willis Don Of The Blues Songs Don Of The Blues Review

$13.85 Despite his statement in the liner notes that "In an era where it is best to play it safe, I chose to take a risk...," there isn't much surprising or risky about young guitarist Joe Bonamassa's fifth studio album. Most of his previous releases have mixed blues covers with his own originals, all played with a rocker's attitude, volume and less-than-subtle ...

$14.49 J.J. Cale is perhaps best known for penning hits for Eric Clapton, including "Cocaine" and "Midnight Hour," yet he's also an accomplished and extremely talented songwriter and guitarist. While no one ever declared, "Cale is God," Clapton clearly has always thought highly of him, and in 2006, the Clapton/Cale mutual admiration society finally made its way into the studio.
The result is 14 songs' worth of ...
| | Brenda Lee Little Miss Dynamite CDs (1997) (Import) Box Set; Germany
Don Of The Blues
$171.85 In the late '50s, rock & roll was growing desperate for fresh blood. Elvis was in the army, Little Richard had returned to the church, and both Jerry Lee and Chuck Berry had fallen from grace, replaced by such banal pop stars as Frankie Avalon and Paul Anka. One voice, however, rose above the dross to provide the world with a much-needed adrenaline infusion. That voice belonged to Little Miss Dynamite, the diminutive Brenda Lee. For much of the early '60s, Lee peppered the charts with a mix of high-octane rockers and epic ballads, all masterfully produced by Owen Bradley (best known for his work with Patsy Cline). Bear Family's four-disc LITTLE MISS DYNAMITE collects every Lee studio recording from this period (1957-1962).
The size and thoroughness of this collection is aimed primarily at hardcore fans, and such fans will not be disappointed by this set. The music, from the 18 A-side hits to the B-sides and album tracks to unreleased throwaways, is consistently excellent, as is Bear Family's ...

| | T-Model Ford Jack Daniel Time CD (2008)
Don Of The Blues
$12.85 JACK DANIEL TIME is an easygoing live album recorded at T-Model Ford's favorite local juke joint, Red's Lounge in Clarksdale, Mississippi, with harmonica player Terry Bean, drummer Lee Williams, and, sitting in on a few tracks, Ford's old bandmate Sam Carr. Mixing acoustic solo performances (a rarity for the electric slide master Ford) with full-band stompers, JACK DANIEL TIME sticks to blues favorites like "Killing Floor," "Hi-Heel Sneakers," and "That's Alright Mama," each performed with the passion of a man one-fourth of Ford's 80-plus years.
80-some years of hard livin’ and lovin’, fightin’ and cuttin’ has led to this: a brand new album of whiskey-soaked blues on a brand new label - the man they call “T-Model Ford” on Mudpuppy Recordings.T-Model (a.k.a. The Taildragger) hails from Arthur “Big Boy” Crudup territory in Forest, Mississippi. He spent years in Clarksdale and currently resides in Greenville, Mississippi. Through his long and storied life, T-Model has been married five times, survived a stint at Parchman Farm and served two years on a Tennessee chain gang. He’s also played a bit of blues along the way and is as likely to be found playing huge European festivals as he is harassing the ladies at his favorite juke joint, Red’s Lounge, where this CD was recorded (live to tape with no overdubs). Joining T-Model on “jack daniel time” ...
