After Sugarland's first two albums hit it big on the country charts, 2008's LOVE ON THE INSIDE is the duo's breakthrough into the pop mainstream. Featuring the first single, "All I Want To Do," LOVE ON THE INSIDE mixes traditional country, singer-songwriter folk-rock, and commercial pop in a slick but ingratiating package. Other highlights include second single "Already Gone" and the mythologizing "Steve Earle." LOVE ON THE INSIDE was released both as a standard CD and as an expanded special edition that features five bonus tracks, including a live cover of the Dream Academy's 1985 alternative rock hit "Life In A Northern Town," featuring guest appearances by Jake Owen and Little Big Town, which was a surprise country radio hit in early 2008.

Before Belle & Sebastian became the poster children for all things twee, there was Aberdeen. Fronted by high school sweethearts John Girgus (guitar) and Beth Arzy (vocals/bass), and a rotating cast of musicians (and a drum machine), Aberdeen issued a handful of singles and EPs for seminal U.K. imprint Sarah Records. But with the demise of Sarah in 1995, Aberdeen broke up, and they would do it one more time before ultimately calling it quits in late 2005. Creative and personal strains within the band during those early days didn't help matters either, but what's left is the blissful pop of songs like "I Think I'm Falling," "Super Sunny Summer," and "Miss You Now You're Gone." What Aberdeen did was much more than twee. What Do I Wish for Now?: Singles & Extras 1994-2004 is a representative look at how the California band succeeded in making appealing and stylish pop music for the original indie generation, and became one of the flagship acts of its genre. The newly remastered Byron EP opens up the collection in true Aberdeen fashion, lush harmonies and all, while the glorious 1995 EP, Fireworks, and accompanying "Snapdragon" single sound as fresh as ever. Their later material for Tremelo Arm Users Club and Better Looking cannot go unnoticed, either. Their only full-length player, 2001's Homesick and Happy to be Here, was some of the most endearing and emotional material from Aberdeen, and by this point, Arzy and Girgus had broken up, but their professional relationship seemed promising. A legend out of the glory days of Rochester’s music history is back to puzzle its fans with one of the strangest musical paradoxes of all time: a retro record that is perpetually poised on the cutting edge, like a frozen waterfall. CMI Records is slated to reissue the only CD produced by The Lovematics, one of the leading rock acts to come out of Rochester in the ‘90s, within the next month. The self-titled debut was originally released in 1994 when its lineup consisted of drummer Steve Cavatassi, guitarist Todd Dentico, Bassist Chris Kemp and visionary band leader Paul Morabito, who handled lead vocals, rhythm guitar and all of the songwriting duties. It was in that last role that Morabito defined the band’s groundbreaking sound. “The Lovematics was kind of Paul's interpretation of Nirvana and the Beatles,” CMI Records CEO Cash Mattock said. “They've got a little bit of the Weezer thing, they've got a little bit of the Foo Fighters thing.” The catch is that when the Lovematics were at their peak, Weezer had yet to emerge from obscurity and the Foo Fighters hadn’t even formed yet. “It's almost like Paul coined that sound,” Mattock said. “He was way ahead of the game as far as that was concerned.” The record was more experimental then and ahead of its time by about five years because a heavier style of grunge dominated the national music scene then, according to Mattock. “Back then it didn’t make as much sense,” he said. Dave grew up surrounded by the active folk scene of Northern Virginia and Washington D.C.during the 1960s and 70s, where he was exposed to a variety of musical traditions and was inspired by performers like Pete Seeger and Arlo Guthrie. At age 9, Dave wrote his first song - the same year he met the legendary Libba Cotton ("Freight Train") and was invited to accompany her on stage. Throughout the 1970s and 80s, he continued to write and perform, both solo and with several bands in the D.C. area, London, and New York City. He studied music and philosophy at Columbia and Oxford universities, earned a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of California, Davis (1997), and promptly retired from academia to dedicate himself to music.
