16 year-old acoustic guitarist Garrett Doran, musician and composer, a native of rural Oregon, began guitar lessons when he was eight. He is primarily a flat-picker and his list of teachers includes: Ted Hazel (bluegrass), Christopher Woitach (jazz ), Matt Arcara (previous US Flat Picking Champion), Steve Blanchard (rhythm guitar), Gary Mezier (blues), Clyde Clevenger (bluegrass) Terry Robb (finger-style blues), and James “Fester” Reed (flatpick), among others. Garrett plays a Taylor 614ce that he received when he was twelve. In the summer of 2006, he attended the Puget Sound Guitar Workshop, on scholarship, as their youngest ever “adult” participant. There, he studied under the experienced eye of Slim Richey, the “most amazing flat-picker” Garret had ever seen. In 2007 he received a full-tuition scholarship from Dreadnaughts Unlimited to the prestigious Steve Kauffman Acoustic Kamp in Tennessee. Additionally, he received a scholarship from the Salem Pops Orchestra to attend the Puget Sound Guitar Workshop again. He was honored with an “Outstanding Soloist” award from his school’s League Jazz Festival in the late spring of 2007.Garrett plays for many community fund-raising events as well as dinner shows, weddings, and concerts. He is currently is a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Contemporary Worship Team in Woodburn, Oregon and the Silverton High School Jazz Band. Garrett recorded most of the tracks for his debut album, “Knoxville Nights,” in the summer of 2007 when he was 15 and finished the remainder in January, 2008 after he turned 16. The album blends elements of the music he loves into original compositions that are unique, energetic and appealing. You will find compositions named after places in the Cascade foothills where he lives, and some that create the feeling of the unpredictable weather found in Oregon. Many feature his incredible flat-picking skill and some are finger-picked, creating achingly beautiful harmonies. Although some tracks are combined so that he plays both rhythm and lead guitar, the sound has not been altered digitally and remains true to Garrett's live musical identity. In his music you will find hints of Celtic, rock, bluegrass, classical, blues, new age, Latin and more . . . all stamped with his personal identity. Knoxville Nights album
$14.45 After the dark and chilling themes of 2006's BLACK CADILLAC, which saw Rosanne Cash dealing with the deaths of her mother, Vivian Liberto, her father, Johnny Cash, and her stepmother, June Carter Cash -- all of whom passed within a two-year span -- one might assume that her next project would move into an even deeper level of bleakness, but with THE LIST, it's immediately clear that she has instead found a more measured place to stand. It's a lovely and redemptive outing that looks back to go forward. When Cash turned 18, her father, alarmed that his daughter only knew the songs that were getting played on the radio, gave her a list of what he considered 100 essential American songs; Cash kept that list, and now she's drawn on it for this wonderfully nuanced outing that brims with a kind of redemptive timelessness. THE LIST is a renewal and a testament to life, and it belongs to her father as much as it belongs to her, a beautiful ...

Knoxville Nights CD music
$5.99 By my count, Keith Lynch has released five albums in about as many years, an admirable feat for an artist, considering (or due to) the fact that he records and releases his work independently. The age of MySpace and relative ease of home recording has opened up many possibilities for artists with imagination to spare, and as Unknown Component, Lynch continues to offer up his wordy form of musical poetry for anyone who cares to have a go.Separately Connected, the latest UC release, offers up a dozen engaging trips through such cheery affairs as the nature of truth and reality, with songs titled “Alone With Your Mistakes” and “Friendly Indifference”.Shockingly, you won’t need a bottle of pills by the end of this one. The music of UC propels even the most brooding sentiment forward, filling the empty spots with hammering drum fills, insistent guitar chording ...

$6.69 Age of Innocents is a special collection of original songs, written, composed and performed by teenagers and young adults from six different Churches of God in the Greater Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area. Christian recording artist and producer David P. Stevens and Youth Ministers of the Delaware Valley Youth Ministry Coalition (a group of concerned youth leaders who came together in 2006 to respond to the challenges facing young people in Philadelphia) conceived the music project as a way for young people to cope with the pressures of urban life and communicate the love of God to other young people their age. For three months, from August to October 2008, Stevens and the Youth Leaders gathered groups of teens and young adults to discuss problems facing urban families and youth, and using their own experiences and Biblical passages, the young people created poetry, wrote songs and composed the music for the project. Stevens and the Delaware Valley Youth Ministry Coalition designed the music project to serve as a mentoring tool, giving them the opportunity to spend time with young people and help them understand the spiritual, emotional and social needs of contemporary youth culture. Throughout the course of the project the young people created songs designed to convince their peers that despite the emotional weight of urban ...
