(1 Customer Review)
Had Astrud Gilberto only ever recorded her endearing rendition of the Antonio Carlos Jobim song "The Girl from Ipanema," she still would have gone down in pop music history. Fortunately, Gilberto had a long association with Verve Records that resulted in a number of jazzy Brazilian pop albums that made excellent use of her breathy voice and unassuming delivery.
The two-disc GOLD set skims the cream from Gilberto's output, bringing together her recordings of such bossa nova classics as "Corcovado" and "Berimbau" alongside material that falls more in line with '60s-era adult pop. But whatever the song, Gilberto's wistful, breezy vocals bring out its essential appeal. Well selected, and boasting remastered sound, GOLD is the definitive Astrud Gilberto sampler. | | Kate Bush Lionheart (Japan LP Sleeve) CD (1978) (Import) Japan; Mini LP Sleeve
Gold CD music
$39.85 When EMI signed the teenage prodigy Kate Bush, the label claimed that in order to nurture her talent, it wouldn't release her first album until she had a few years to grow up. As a result, her debut, THE KICK INSIDE, didn't see daylight for three years. On the other hand, her second album, LIONHEART, was rush-released only nine months after the success of its predecessor. Fortunately, Kate still had some leftover songs from the debut session, helping make her sophomore effort an equally strong offering.
With the wisdom of someone much older, Kate ...

| | Kate Bush Red Shoes (Japan LP Sleeve) CD (1993) (Import) Japan; Mini LP Sleeve
Gold songs
$40.45 Kate Bush was never the most prolific of artists; this 1993 album and its attendant singles formed her complete '90s output. Her recordings are carefully conceived, densely orchestrated, and finely tuned, and THE RED SHOES is no exception. Though spontaneity may not be her strong suit, her records are never dull or self-indulgent.
Among Kate Bush's most relaxed recordings, THE RED SHOES features a ...

| | Sensational Alex Harvey Band Faith Healer: An Introduction CD (2002) (Import) Remastered; Germany
Gold songs
$11.99 FAITH HEALER is a compilation of tracks recorded by the unusual British rock outfit the Sensational Alex Harvey Band.
With so many compilations (vinyl and CD) already on the market, it was refreshing to come across one that did not treat the Sensational Alex Harvey Band as some kind of novelty rock jukebox, committed to nothing more pressing than a succession of idiosyncratic cover versions (most of them culled from The Penthouse Tapes). Indeed, Faith Healer seemingly goes out of its way to avoid that impression, eschewing even the hits "Delilah" and "Runaway" in favor of some of the lesser-trawled corners of the SAHB songbook. Of course a handful of expected nuggets are included, but both Jacques Brel's "Next" and ...

| | Slow Down Molasses I'm An Old Believer CD (2008)
Gold songs
$9.29 THE ALBUM"I’m an Old Believer" is 12 songs filtered through pure obsession. Countless hours were spent over 9 months in the sessions that became the album. It brings together a cast of 14, including members of some of the finest bands in Saskatoon’s fertile music scene (The Deep Dark Woods, Dumb Angel, The Blood Lines, Carbon Dating Service and SOSO) to breathe life into a dozen songs chronicling failing relationships, newfound hope and the romantic notion of rock ‘n roll. As much a triumph as a breakdown, the album ranges from sparse country waltzes to roaring wall of sound anthems with some shoegazey noise and trashy rock guitars thrown in for good measure. It employs horns, strings, banjo, piano, organ, pedal steel, a choir and never ...
