| | John Lee Hooker Healer Vinyl LP Record John Lee Hooker Discography of CDs
When popular culture embraced John Lee, purists turned up their noses. They should have been pleased that the world's greatest living Delta bluesman was going to make some money before he turned up his toes. Teaming up with Carlos Santana, Bonnie Raitt, Los Lobos, Canned Heat (not for the first time) and others, lent Hooker's blues a contemporary gloss. It took the album to the upper reaches of the album charts around the world, brought him a number of Grammy awards and a new career in advertising. The blues is not only a healer, it drinks brandy and wears jeans. The Santana guitar solo on the title track is breathtaking and Hooker is the coolest senior citizen in the world.
This album was a mainstream breakthrough for John Lee Hooker and was one of his first releases to feature a wide array of guest stars, including Bonnie Raitt, Keith Richards, Johnnie Johnson, Los Lobos and Carlos Santana. This 180 gram vinyl replaces CLS

Healer album
$7.19 The first solo release by contemporary blues-based artist Keb Mo' mixes a reverence for traditional country blues with more streamlined elements of commercial pop. Despite a convincing "down-home" approach of gravel-textured vocals and superior slide work and finger-picking skills, Keb Mo' avoids the pose of a hard line revivalist. Instead, he chooses to employ his fluency in the Delta tradition as a palette on which to blend a connoisseur's sampling of various musical genres. Country, funk, swing, and late 20th-Century folk balladry (Traci Chapman, James Taylor and Bob Dylan) all manage to make their way into the mix for a seamless blend of roots and radio friendliness.
Keyboards, bass and drums (in addition to Keb Mo's contributions on guitar, ...

| | James Brown Live At The Apollo Vinyl LP (1997) Reissue
Healer music CDs
$16.89 Recorded live at the Apollo Theater, New York, New York on June 25, 1967. Includes liner notes by Roger McLeya.
Recorded five years after Brown's LIVE AT THE APOLLO 1962 album, this disc finds the Godfather of Soul returning to that venerable New York theater, and a comparison between the two recordings shows the incredible growth that had taken place in the interim. Brown was still turning out effective versions of the melodic soul ballads with which he began his career (the violin-accompanied "I Want to Be Around"), but with the arrival of drummer Clyde Stubblefield, he'd moved from soul to pure funk ("Cold Sweat").
The singer demonstrates his versatility with a souful version of the popular standard "That's Life" and the blues shuffle "Kansas City," but he's at his most arresting pounding out hard funk rhythms, backed by his classic '60s band (Maceo Parker, St. Clair Pinckney, Pee Wee Ellis, etc.). Ever ...

$15.89 Aerosmith surprised everyone when their 1987 album, PERMANENT VACATION, was a success, coming as it did after several releases that had done nothing but verify the belief that the band had peaked a decade earlier.
