SORGENTE“The Groove Connection”You don’t search for groove, you one day just find it. Or rather: it finds you, graps you, turns you ‘round and upside down and never let you go again. That is exactly what happened to six young musicians from Munich. Being a pure acoustic band at the beginning, they created and perfected a sound during the last three years that seems not only to unite influences from the last 40 years, but captivates especially with the omnipresent and already mentioned GROOVE, moreover an incredible love and creativity in realizing their very special visions of sound.The Italian word “Sorgente” means source; and from such a source the band seems to draw inexhaustibly when brewing their very own magic potion to revive and excite themselves as well as their audience.This sound can be localized somewhere between the Caribbean’s capitals Kingston and Havanna, the swinging London of the late 1960ies and George Clinton’s 70ies “Chocolate City” of Detroit.Lovingly and virtouosly arranged harmony soul-choirs groove along with Reggae-Latin beats and spray Carribean lust for life and warmth; hard hitting Funk meets with sixties & seventies rock elements and is refined with World Music elements just to, finally, melt into songs that float into the ears without any resistance and become firmly fixed in one’s mind. Listening to SORGENTE, one may have pictures in his mind of funk- & soul-icons like George Clinton & Funkadelic Parliament, Mandrill, Bar Kays, the Isley Brothers or Prince – as well as some of rock giants like the Beatles, Led Zeppelin & Rare Earth. Timeless music so to say, but with a whole new special flavour to all this…One of the biggest german newspapers writes: “The sound comes cuddling and flattering, just to explode in the next moment...”, another quote says “ You not only may dance— you definitely have to!”.With their 2006 album “First, Then...?!” these young music freaks released an up-to-date record and played over 200 shows throughout the last two years. Among all these concerts, this summer SORGENTE were official toursupport for some of P!NK´s this years European shows. The band is currently working on their follow up record that is due to come out in august 08. Born in Portsmouth New Hampshire in 1975, Nate Laban grew up two towns north of Portsmouth in the working class town of Rochester, NH where he attended school. He started writing songs at the age of fourteen out of a need to deal with a tumultuous home life and a passion for trying to connect with others through music. He began performing shortly after quitting school and moving to Portsmouth at the age of seventeen. He started playing solo in the various coffee houses of the early 90s and then eventually joined a blues band by the name of Brick House. After releasing two full-length albums with Brick House and touring the northeast, Brick House called it quits in 1998. A year after that Nate decided to assemble a new punk rock band, which he still plays in, to this day called The Frosting. The Frosting has released four albums and has enjoyed success throughout the region as well. In the last 9 years they have played everywhere between Portland, Maine and New York City. The members of The Frosting also still play with Nate in his solo shows.In the summer of 2008 Nate was approached by Mark MacDougall of 75orless records out of Providence, RI and asked if he had any interest in releasing an album of his solo songs. Due to further interest by the record label Redtide Records in Rhode Island 75orless and Redtide have gotten together to make this a co-release between the two labels. Demos of Nate's material had already been made and distributed around in underground circles and given away at rare solo performances over the years, but this is Nate's first full-length solo release. This opportunity to record a full album of solo material came at what Nate describes as, "just the right time for something new." The album is a collection of 16 songs ...
