On 2008's DRINKING IN THE MOONLIGHT, the Massachusetts-based band New Radiant Storm King once again proves why it's considered one of indie-rock's most underrated acts. Not as quite amped up as THE STEADY HAND, this album often falls under the more subdued side of the group's alternative-pop aesthetic, as heard on the chiming "Islander" and the dreamy "New Paltz Waltz."

$21.45 The roots rock orbit is how this CD collection revolves and there are some really solid tracks included. Others settle to the level of effective bar band music, which seems to be a watering hole for most of this type of material in one way or another. Arlington, VA's Karl Straub is present not only on a solo track but as leader of the Graverobbers, lending a nice vocal touch as well as some well-defined string bending. That is far from the end of his appearances on the disc, as he also shows up in the membership of some of the other featured bands, and authors several of the other songs. These contributions and the presence of several other musicians in different roles on the record help lend a sense of continuity to the proceedings, no small feat when it comes to a compilation. "My Sally" brings in the bluegrass pros including Mike Auldridge on dobro and Jim Gaudreau on mandolin. This is followed by a fine cover choice, none other than a Delmore Brothers tune, "Field Hand Man," which no doubt inspired the name of the band that recorded it, the Field Hands. Electric guitarist Bill Kirchen, slide guitarist Jeff Lang, and singers Maura Kennedy and Lisa Moscatiello are among the many talented performers featured. The Tom Clifford cover of an Evan Johns song is a nice touch. Everybody involved seems to join in for the finale. ~ Eugene Chadbourne
Named one of the top ten CD's of 2001 by the Wall Street Journal (12/28/2001)"RELEASED IN 2001, BUILT TO LASTA nifty collection of country-flavored songs by musicians from Virginia, Maryland and Washington D.C., most of whom must've loved the same people who appealed to Dave Alvin, Gram Parsons, Gillian Welch, Alison Krauss and kd lang, among others. Each of the disc's 18 songs crackle with the kind of organic purity that's missing from the high-gloss world of pop. The players in bands like the Fieldhands, Last Train Home, Jumpin' Jupiter, Starling, and Auldridge & Gaudreau deserve a big, big audience and a spot on the "Grand Ole Opry." Description of The Tracks:1) Last Train Home - Been Awhile This is inspired alt-country reminiscent of the best work of Gram Parsons and The Band. Featuring lead vocals by the Brace brothers, Eric and Alan, and a pedal steel track by former Rosslyn Mountain Boy Tommy Hannum, who is Ricky Van Shelton's musical director.2) Starling, Auldridge & Gaudreau - My Sally A deep, spooky and profoundly moving track featuring three of the biggest names in bluegrass. John Starling's vocal performance is full of emotion and nuance. Mike Auldridge delivers ...

As a Band we are collectively working to bring about awareness to important issues both local and universal. Through raising personal consciousness and responsibility to new heights in our day to day lives, we are expressing a positive and challenging perspective through our music, lyrics and our live performances. We are working to spread this message through embracing our collective reality so that we might be able to progress forward together, to leave behind the unhealthy and destructive patterns that we've created for ourselves, which breeds the suffering we constantly experience as a whole that the universe deems literally unnecessary. ONLY HUMAN is a hard working, forward thinking, dedicated touring metal band that has been on a quest to make honest and sincere music that trancends the individuals making it. With the word spreading fast like wildfire ONLY HUMAN is quickly making some great friends with a few unique sponsors including; VHT Guitar ...
