Rewind/Fast Forward album
$14.45 After the dark and chilling themes of 2006's BLACK CADILLAC, which saw Rosanne Cash dealing with the deaths of her mother, Vivian Liberto, her father, Johnny Cash, and her stepmother, June Carter Cash -- all of whom passed within a two-year span -- one might assume that her next project would move into an even deeper level of bleakness, but with THE LIST, it's immediately clear that she has instead found a more measured place to stand. It's a lovely and redemptive outing that looks back to go forward. When Cash turned 18, her father, alarmed that his daughter only knew the songs that were getting played on the radio, gave her a list of what he considered 100 essential American songs; Cash kept that list, and now she's drawn on it for this wonderfully nuanced outing that brims with a kind of redemptive timelessness. THE LIST is a renewal and a testament to life, and it belongs to her father as much as it belongs to her, a beautiful restatement of her father's passions, only now, they've become his daughter's treasures, as well. It's an affirming story, but that's all it would be if Cash didn't sing her heart out here. The opener, a version of Jimmie Rodgers' "Miss the Mississippi and You," is full ...
| | Brad Paisley American Saturday Night CD (2009)
Rewind/Fast Forward CD music
$13.29 An American saturday night is not an unusual topic for a country song but Brad Paisley's celebration is. Paisley sees a typical weekend night as a cultural collision of French kisses, Italian Ices, Canadian bacon and margaritas, a place where Mexican and Dutch beers chill side by side in a bucket of ice. If he leans too heavily on labels, referring to those beers by brand name, it's merely a reflection of Paisley's uncanny knack for capturing the casual contemporary details of American life at the tail end of the 2000s. It's not just the pile up of iPhones and international video chats on "Welcome to the Future," the first country anthem ...

| | McAuley-Schenker Group Built To Destroy CD (1983) Import
Rewind/Fast Forward music CDs
$24.45 BUILT TO DESTROY, 1983's nine-track explosion from The Michael Schenker Group, is powered by the hard-rocking tracks "Rock My Nights Away" and "Dogs of War."
Built to Destroy was not much different than MSG's previous effort, Assault Attack, except that Gary Barden replaced Graham Bonnet on lead vocals. Michael Schenker's steady musicianship usually lifted his sometimes mediocre solo efforts into at least the listenable range. But other than "Rock My Nights Away" and the instrumental "Nemo," most of the songs on this album sound ...
| | Phil Cornish Walkaway CD (2007)
Rewind/Fast Forward songs
$18.99 Phil Cornish is a second-generation bluegrasser and many in the Bay Area know him as an excellent mandolin player and the member of many bands in the area. The sixteen songs on the album include 13 written by Phil and show his versatility with composing instrumentals and song lyrics. Phil's cherished Red Diamond mandolin graces the cover and liner photos and the mandolin's warm, rich sound adds an intensity to the songs as deep as a fine red wine. The title cut, ...

| | Taylor Swift Fearless CD (2008) Enhanced CD
Rewind/Fast Forward CD music
$14.65 Taylor Swift abandons any pretense that she's a teen on her second album, FEARLESS--which isn't to say that she suddenly tarts herself up, running away from her youth in a manner that's all too familiar to many teen stars. Swift's maturation is deliberate and careful, styled after the crossover country-pop of Shania Twain and Faith Hill before they turned into divas. Despite the success of her self-titled 2006 debut, there's nothing at all diva-like about Swift on FEARLESS: she's soft-spoken and considerate, a big sister instead of a big star. Nowhere is this truer than on "Fifteen," a kind warning for a teen to watch her heart sung from the perspective of a woman who's perhaps twice that age--a sly trick for the 18-year-old Swift. There may be a hint of youthfulness to her singing ...

$10.15 This 3rd disc is going to be different. It will sound like the rain, like the tundra and like a jolt of fire in the belly of the beast, throw it up on the grill, I mean sound grill, and hear it sizzle.Featuring members of local acts the Ebb and Flow, Scrabbel, and Karpov, plus a Ukrainian jazz bassist and a violinist, We Is Shore Dedicated's second record cooks up avant-garde indie-pop at an Eastern European folk carnival. Doesn't quite make ...
