2008 release by this new project from Finnish Grammy nominated record producer, songwriter and musician, Timo Tolkki, formerly of Stratovarius. The recent break up of Stratovarius came about because Tolkki felt that everything that was to be said with that band, with those members, had already been said and to continue would have simply been repeating the same formula over and over again. Furthermore, tensions between the members led Tolkki to form this new band which he sees as a logical progression of the Stratovarius legacy. New Era Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars)  Pleasant melodic metal with Kiske and Tolkki
"New Era" in a way sounds like a fresh start for Timo Tolkki; as well as a farewell to his former band. The music trends on the same path as the melodic power metal of Stratovarius did, but is less keyboard driven, it lucks the long-crazy-fast solos, most tracks fall in the mid-tempo category, while the instrumentation along with the production suggest a more down to earth approach.
There is plenty of musical variety amongst the songs and the fact that there are three vocalists (Kiske, Sammet, Rantanen) singing on the album adds even more versatility. The standout tracks, in my opinion are the title track, Eden Is Burning, Keep The Flame Alive, Heroes and Last Night On Earth.
All in all outstanding vocals by Kiske (one of his strongest vocal performances in recent years), strong songwriting and guitar playing by Tolkki (no shredding), melodic-emotional-confident-fresh and uplifting atmosphere and some really good songs. This is definitely some of Timo Tolkki's best work, but it does not surpass the brilliance of some earlier Stratovarius albums.

The history of Eyes, Wings And Many Other Things As told by Colin Arnold)A few years back I met a guy named Neu Leblanc, who was always working on music as I was, and eventually we started hanging out and recording together at his home. Some time later a friend of his, by the name of Sean French, moved in downstairs from Neu and we would go down there to hang out, and soon become good friends all around. Sean had lots of instruments in his home, and we would always end up wanting to bang around on them, of course. So I got a hold of an eight-track cassette recorder and brought it over to work on some original material involving the three of us. With our laid back approach to playing and recording, it ended up being very fun and loose which is evident in the tunes we produced then (a couple of which are even included on our debut CD).Neu and I ended up joining a group called Pegasus Now. Sean was, and is a member of The Theater Fire. Pegasus Now fizzelled out after about a year, and in that time my back catalog had grown considerably. What to do with those songs? Longing for the easy days of the past at Sean\'s house, with his giant, white cat Scratchy as our lazy mascot, we resumed collaborating and fell into a groove pretty quick.We have had help from various friends on our recordings and live performances.
