Eventyret Om Vivaldi album
$11.89 BY A THREAD is Gov't Mule's first studio album since HIGH & MIGHTY was issued in 2006. Since that time, bassist Andy Hess has been replaced by Jorgen Carlsson, though Hess appears on two tracks at the end of the album. Carlsson's playing style is much more aggressive than Hess', and is therefore closer - in spirit anyway - to Gov't Mule's original bassist, the late Allen Woody, though he possesses an adventurous sense of time and is harmonically more colorful than either Woody or Hess. Carlsson and drummer Matt Abst are a solid match, since Abst is a drummer used to shifting time signatures and allowing the unexpected in while still driving a band. The band's keyboardist and rhythm guitarist, Danny Louis, is a shape-shifter, playing to whatever is needed in a given track. His manner of coloring sounds inside and around a particular tune's framework is a large part of what makes Gov't Mule's sound so fresh here - despite the fact that they don't stray far from what they do best. Warren Haynes and his guitar are, as usual, front and center, his guitar screaming, his big throaty growl hammering down lyrics like a Southern fire-and-brimstone preacher with earthshaking soul. The material on this set is tight; there is less jamming but Gordie Johnson's production and mixing equalize everything at ten, making it feel like the disc is recorded live.
The set opens with the pulsing bass throb of "Broke Down on the Brazos," just before Haynes and guest guitarist Billy Gibbons enter and let the tough, riff-laden blues snarl get in and slash it up a bit. The roar is wondrously deafening and the pace is fierce. Likewise, the slightly more tuneful "Steppin' Lightly" does anything but. With its funky big rock trio riff, it kicks ...

| | Michael Buble Call Me Irresponsible CD (2007)
Eventyret Om Vivaldi songs
$10.09 Michael Buble ranks among the best of the contemporary crooners working in a classic pop-vocal style, and his 2007 album, CALL ME IRRESPONSIBLE, further refines his suave, smooth style. With its finger-snapping big band arrangements, the album has its share of homage to Frank and Dino, both obvious cornerstones of Buble's music. But this isn't merely a retro exercise; the tunes, the production, and the overall feel are decidedly contemporary.
Stylistically adventurous versions of songs by Eric Clapton, Leonard Cohen, and Willie Nelson keep things lively, while "Everything," a Buble original, is one of the album's highlights. Still, cuts like the lead-off track ("The Best Is Yet to Come") and the old chestnut "I've Got the World on a String" will give listeners looking for some elegant, back-in-the-day pizzazz exactly that.

| | Breaking Benjamin Dear Agony CD (2009)
Eventyret Om Vivaldi album
$12.19 Breaking Benjamin's fourth foray into the crowded waters of early 21st century alternative metal/post-grunge feels a lot like their first three. That's good news for longtime fans of the brooding Pennsylvania quartet, who pound each of the 11 tracks on DEAR AGONY into submission like seasoned strongmen at a country carnival. Front-loaded with the singles "Fade Away" and "I Will Not Bow" (the latter was featured in the murky Bruce Willis sci-fi film Surrogates), DEAR AGONY ...
| | Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix CD (2009)
Eventyret Om Vivaldi CD music
$7.99 The slyly referential MOR-pop of Phoenix has, in part, staked it's effectiveness on the reclaiming of unfashionable music styles of yore. From electro-inflected country & western ditties to airy, synth-heavy soft-rock, the group's giddy embrace of all that's considered schlock--retouching the results to a fine point with crisp, modern production and a hip, young attitude--ascended them to the status of postmodern pop auteurs par excellence. WOLFGANG AMADEUS PHOENIX, the band's fourth album, further refines their approach, reining in the scattershot, darts-to-the-wall tactics of the past to reveal some of the most vibrantly melodic and robust songwriting of their career. The album kicks off with the bouncy, feel good rave-up "Lisztomania," a song whose, mostly, ...

| | Antagonist Exist CD (2008)
Eventyret Om Vivaldi album
$10.65 Released in 2008, Exist is Antagonist's third album but first to gain widespread distribution through Prosthetic Records, so it's really quite shocking to witness their spot-on imitation of prime-grade, mid-decade Killswitch Engage on its very first track, "Bomb Shelter." Where have these boys been hiding, and why are they so late to the melodic metalcore prom dance? This is a backhanded compliment, to be sure, but the song's imposing hooks almost convince one to overlook the group's overwhelming artistic debt to Massachusetts' finest -- until the subsequent title track's repeat offenses come a-moshing, filled with crunchy riffs spiked with melodious lead guitar flurries, clean vocals cast against the rocks of hardcore screaming, etc., then culminate in that most feared genre artifice: the breakdown. Needless to say, these musical qualities virtually define this genre of music in its most predictable and, to be fair, effective format. Other tracks like "Amnesia Ln." and "Immaculate Misconception" take a slightly different path by reducing the melody in general, and upping the death brutality in its place (using squiggly harmonics to punctuate their riffing, for emphasis), thereby making them sound like bids to stay relevant with more recent market trends in that direction. If any surprises are to be had, they're largely confined to "Angels," which takes an unexpected but much welcomed detour into the world of old-school thrash, and the ballad "Failure on Repeat," which proves to be a nice change of pace ...

| | Cool King Chris Cat-Man-Don't CD (2001)
Eventyret Om Vivaldi CD music
$9.35 Once upon a Time there was a King who was very cool and his name was Chris. He played guitar and wrote songs in bands like Hardsoul Poets, Fireball XL-5, Neglected Sheep and the Firesheep, (house band at The Perch comedy skit club). While with the Firesheep, he wrote songs like "Eunuchs","Dysfunctional Family Blues" and a song that landed him an appearance on "Bob and Sheri" called "The Traffic Song". The song was an instant hit on morning radio. The repeated phrase "green means go" became a mantra in cities up and down the east coast.Meanwhile, Cool King Chris worked on an album of original pop songs recorded at the Hooverama studio in Charlotte. Produced by Jamie Hoover the album "Heard It Before" received rave reviews by such publications as "Amplifier Magazine" and "Buckets full of Brains" in London England. Signed to Jam Records and creating his own Courthouse Records label only propelled the growing buzz of his coolness further. Even though things were bubbling up from the underground scene about CKC, the momentum of his funny songs on the now nationally syndicated "Bob and Sheri Show" began to blow his sails in a different direction. "We've had many of our listeners write in to say that you should go with the funny songs...and our listeners are never wrong" said Sheri Lynch. After this and constant fan mail requesting copies of the songs performed on the show, CKC along with Max and Todd of "Bob and Sheri" compiled a CD of Cool Kings funniest songs. The Album "Cat-Man-Don't" has become a favorite amongst fans of the "Bob and Sheri Show". This has also exposed Cool King's "Heard It Before" album to a whole new audience. Things are starting to happen. The kingdom of Cool King Chris continues to expand ...
