$9.95 Soul belter J.J. Jackson is best known for his 1967 smash, "But It's Alright," but he has some fine singles and a couple of excellent albums as well, and 1967's But It's Alright on the Calla label is one of them. Kicking off with the infectious title track, the record alternates between flat-out rockers like "I Dig Girls," "Come See Me (I'm Your Man)" (which was written ...

| | Two Ton Shoe Never Cancel The Stage! CD (2008)
Like This
$12.15 Oh my god! Two Ton Shoe has a new CD out for the first time in forevah! 12 new tunes powered by the songwriting of Gilman and Beech and Gilmania's powerhouse production skills. Inspired in part by the band's resurgent success in South Korea, "Never Cancel the Stage!" exhibits the fusion of funk and pop that drove previous hits like "Medicine" and "Paper Bag". "Never Cancel the Stage!" will also be released in 2008 in South Korea under a different title by FarGo Music.About the Shoe:The music of Two Ton Shoe combines world-weary rock wisdom, deep pocket pop sensibility, wry white soul optimism and a kind of barely restrained muscular chopsiness underneath it all that threatens to rip your face off if you’re not careful. The songs sound as though they were crafted with painstaking care in a secret laboratory on the moon, designed to liberate the masses from urban loneliness and modern radio lameness.Formed in 1995, primarily from the members of Boston alt metal outfit Mystery Jones, Two Ton Shoe won instant ...

| | Rita Coolidge/Nice Feelin' CD (2009) (Import) Remastered; United Kingdom
Like This
$18.69 This twofer neatly captures the beginning of Rita Coolidge's career by combining her first two albums, which both came out in 1971. Each one dented the bottom rungs of the charts, but Coolidge's star didn't really ascend until her third album. Nevertheless, this is an intriguing look at her beginnings, and a reminder of what a soulful singer she was, right from the start. While there's a bit of high-gloss pop here and there, the overwhelming feeling one comes away with is that of a straight-up R&B singer giving her all on everything from the Albert King blues classic "Born Under a Bad Sign" to Steve Young's "Seven Bridges Road."
2008 digitally remastered two-fer from the '70s vocalist, the first two solo albums from the former Joe Cocker backing singer and session vocalist (and future Kris Kristofferson love interest): Rita Coolidge (1971) and Nice Feelin' (1972). Both albums made the US Top 200. Beat Goes On.
